So I'm trying to write a few lists for a near full Khorne CSM army. What HQ unit should I use?
I've been debating between Kharn The Betrayer, a Daemon Prince of Khorne, and then just a standard Chaos Lord w/ MoK.

Also if I chose the daemon prince of khorne does that count as him having the mark of khorne so that bezerkers can be troops?

(Also I wasn't sure to ask this either here or in the Army Lists section so if its in the wrong section my bad)

Unfortunately, the DP isn't an option if you want Berserkers as troops. You're limited to either Kharn or a Lord with MoK.

Kharn is really, really, really nasty, and is a bargain at his points cost. I usually roll with him.

Another great Lord option? Lord with MoK on Juggernaut with Sigil of Corruption, and Axe of Blind Fury. Very rough.

A custom built khorne lord rolling with some chaos spawn is almost a shoe in for a T2 assault and hopefully he comes in at a good angle where the opposing chump can not accept the challenge. Then you just proceed to merc the whole unit laughing like a maniac yelling MAIM! KILL BURN!

Kharn the Betrayer is an absolute monster. I might recommend converting your own though, since his model is very dated and has a pretty static pose. The aforementioned Khorne Lord on a Juggernaut decked to the nines with awesome gear (like that special named axe) sounds like a fun character too, and rolling him with Spawn means he's got some protection while he moves up the field.

So I'm just getting back into the game and I'm rusty on the acronyms. Whats a T2 assault? And I like the idea of creating my own Kharn model....

Take kharn, but then also take a level 3 sorcerer with spell familliar and roll on biomancy. Attach both to the same squad of 20 dudes and win. Nothing like FNP and not dying on kharns death blob, plus the ability to lower enemy toughness and strength.

A lord on a juggy attached to 5 spawn is also a good option.

The only choice for a true knornate army is kharn. Everything else is just counts as.

Keep in mind that a Khorne Juggerlord is forced to accept every challenge since there's no Champion to also take them like in Bikers.

I like this idea for a big army, but I'm still acquiring units so I'll probably just take Kharn for now and put him in a transport of some sort with a squad of 'zerkers.

If you don't think a screaming bald dude with a skull for a face on top of a giant brass donkey from hell with a soul-stealing axe isn't the most Khornate thing ever, then I don't know what to tell you.

If you're gonna run Kharn, I'd recommend getting him a land raider. Put Kharn and some buddies (Kharn and friends, as I've come to call them) in there and then roll em up to whatever you want dead. Rhinos are ok, but you may have to whether a turn of shooting before getting to assault if you use one, and when Kharn is in the squad, they're gonna take LOTS of fire. If you want Kharn to do more than just be a bullet magnet, give him the assault vehicle he craves.

I usually run Kharn, a lord with axe of bilnd fury and 8 berserkers (champ with power fist) in a land raider with another squad of berserkers in a rhino close behind as support. Will chew through anything. My last game they went through 3 killa kans, a full mob of slugga boyz and a full mob of tank busters in a truck Gonna be testing them against Eldar next week.

“Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.
The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does.
That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

...I thought Khorne and Sorcerers didn't get along? You could do it, but it wouldn't be very fluffy; if you made an Unmarked Daemon Prince or Lord as your Warlord and had the Sorcerer and Kharn both subordinate to him it'd make a little more sense in the background, but that'd mean two detachments...

Just use this cookie cutter conbo:

Chaos Lord
Mark of Khorne
Juggernaut
Sigil of Corruption
Axe of Khorne

Kharn the Betrayer sucks. he's T4 with a 5+ invulnerable save so the first battlecannon that hits him means he's toast. You have to put him in a Land Raider to make sure he even survives, and we all know how Land Raiders work in this edition: they don't. So for around 400 points you have Kharn and land Raider.

He's too much trouble for something so insignificant.

They don't but for some reason there is no stipulation for allowing a sorcerer to join a MOK squad. Since you can choose to fail deny the witch... laughs ensue.

I have been running Kharn with ~20 cultists. The unit has great synergy. Kharn makes the cultists fearless, and they give him a ton of LoS rolls. It sorta forces the opponent to lay into dirt cheap models early. If they are taking a beating, have kharn jump into another squad, or vehicle, and keep moving. If the cultists survive, they have a lot of attacks with hatred, the chump champ makes the challenge, and kharn goes to town on the squad (and if he does hit a cultist, who cares?).
