How far before the Aegis line till friendly units have to give cover? Can you be 10inchs behind it and still not give cover?
On a side note I believe they should have released army specific ones so we all can have them and look right.

Isn't it true line of sight? so if the dudes10" back are still covered then yes save.
if the opponent is shooting from a building i would go with what he sees is what you get.
so ya be careful getting shot down on gives you less cover.

Yes it is.
So if the firing models can see more than 75% of the target models then no cover. If they can see 75% or less then the target gets a cover save.

I'm not sure how far behind it they'll retain it... I'd possibly assume so long as the bulk of it is within 6".
As for race specific ones...
Imperial - will all have the same gear, so that's covered.
Chaos Demons - Won't really ever have their own, so will just use other races terrain that happens to be there. Effectively covered.
Chaos Space Marines - Imperial but changed (either with the CSM vehicle upgrade sprue or otherwise). So basically covered.
Dark Eldar - They do no have stationary places, nor tend to stick around for wars of attrition. That said, a wall of corpses and a 'landed' gun, landed jetbikes / ships and such could be used as terrain. But generally, will just use what's there.
Eldar - They'd potentially have some, portable energy shields and grown barriers. Would be nice to see.
Necrons - Monolith type things? be interesting, but they wouldn't generally have or want them.
Orks - SCRAP! all the scrap! They also have an Aegis-y set already.
Tau - Would love to see Tau Drone-Walls and such, but generally they fight a moving war with very little emplaced anything.
Tyranids - I don't really see it.

Just remember when your unit is behind the wall and you end up eating 5 frag missiles that ignore cover and you ended up clumping your guys up behind the line makes it rather easy to get stupid ammounts of casualties.
I would be careful with a defence line because it can save your arse (night fight and line for epic cover save.
Or it can just isolate you and make you a vulnerable target.
my suggestion with how terrain works now is build up a nice defensive position around the line so you can defend it well.
Also icarus las bets quad hands down imo.

frags don't ignore cover.
They're only str 4 so against most they only wound on 4s. Generally you'll only ever hit 2-3 models per successful frag hit.
I use the Quad gun with my Orks, mainly due to the fact BS3 Gretchen aren't too terribly reliable even with TL

Frag missiles are blast weapons therefore they ignore cover.

They really don't.
Template weapons do, yes. It's in their rules.
Blast no, they do not ignore cover.

If it wasnt 5am i would literately get up and check my rulebook just to prove you wrong.
Each person i played usually shot some form of blast weapon at me, and each one said it ignores cover. And with a doomsday ark shot thats a huge difference!

By all means check, but I'm afraid you won't prove me wrong.
Blasts really don't ignore cover. Never have done.
You can take cover against a doomsday arc.
The imperial guard colossus for example, does ignore cover. Because it has the ignore cover rule.
Normal blasts? Nope, you get a cover save just fine.

Blasts do not even remotely ignore cover.
However Barrage ignore LOS blocking cover. (can still take cover from area terrain, KFF, ETC)
Templates straight up ignore cover.

Mmm... Mostly.
If the cover is between the model and the centre of the barrage, then they can still take cover saves.
Apart from that you're spot on.

Please do. You will find out that it's you who has been wrong. There is nothing in the Blast rules saying that they ignore cover. Barrage weapons measure LOS for cover from the center of the blast, but as has been said, even they don't really 'ignore' cover.
Daemonhammer wrote:Each person i played usually shot some form of blast weapon at me, and each one said it ignores cover. And with a doomsday ark shot thats a huge difference!
That just means they either don't know the rules or have been cheating.

Back on topic, regarding the Aegis Defence Line- say a unit is 12" behind their own Aegis line, would the unit they are shooting at also get a cover save from it?

probably, you'll have to check True LOS to be sure
remember it's not "your" Aegis Line, it's a neutral piece of scenery that you simply chose to buy and (probably) deploy in a way that initially advantages you

Nowhere under the blast rules does it say that they ignore cover. Check your weapon profiles. Frag missiles are a blast type weapon, flamer weapons are a template type weapon. This is also why the CSM blast master specifically says that it has the 'ignores cover' special rule where as regular blast weapons do not

One can assume that people thinking that the blasts and large blasts ignore cover are applying the wrong use of the word "template weapon".
Blast and large blast weapons do use a template (one made of plastic, in most cases) to determine which models it hits, but it's not an actual template weapon as defined by the rules of 40k, which include Frag Launchers, flamers and heavy flamers, and a number of other weapons which use the tear drop shaped "template".
I can definitely understand why the mistake is made. If a player is always told that the rules are one way, it's completely understandable that they would either accept the rule as explained to them and/or read the rule with that interpretation. It doesn't make the interpretation right, but, keeping stuff like this in mind can help one not come across so arrogantly in situations like this. Not that there's arrogance in the responses of this thread, but one can't say that that's always the case in this part of the site.

Blast and large blast weapons use the Blast or Large Blast Marker, (Which is round), they do not use the (Teardrop shaped) Template (one made of plastic, in most cases) to determine which models it hits, but it's not an actual template weapon as defined by the rules of 40k, which include Frag Launchers, flamers and heavy flamers, and a number of other weapons which use the tear drop shaped "template".
Fixed that for you with the orange.Note: The Blast Marker and the Template are two different things.
