Cypherus here
I've been creating my own chapter and I want to give one of my heros a chainaxe but I don't own a chaos codex and have no idea what the rules or stats are for it.
By the way its a loyalish chapter.

Your only choice is to use a chainaxe model as a standard power axe.
Nobody is ever going to let you play with your own rules for your chapter (for example, using chaos weapons in an army taken from a loyalist codex), so your only option is to find the official rules that best represent the model.

Chainaxes are also used by loyalists, as the minotaurs would love to have a word about it being purely chaos, even if it isn't represented in the rules itself.
But yeah, most people don't care much for homebrewed army rules. So a power axe represented by it would be good enough.

Power axe, rules as found in the core rulebook. That is the only legal way of using a chainaxe model in a loyalist army, so it doesn't matter what stats some other codex might have for a similar weapon. I mean rules-wise, not fluff-wise. Model your power axes as chainaxes if you want, there's no problem with that. But no loyalist codex has rules for a chainaxe as anything other than a power axe, so it's a chaos weapon rules-wise.

Thx, and in the rulebook axes have the rule "unwieldy" or something like that that drops them to initive 1, does this apply to the chainaxe

If you're creating your own chapter, just ensure it's rules are balanced, costed appropriately, and is named nicely (Lord Borealis instead of Super Marine Lord Dude for example, just so things sound cool  ) The Chainaxe is simply Range- N/A, Str-User, AP4, Melee. This is wrong. Just because you wouldn't. Plenty of people will let you use your own rules - otherwise why would I have 2 Extended (modified) codexes (both of which I've used regularly), 2 scratchbuilt codexes, be working on more Extended and Scratchbuilt codexes. Also, it's why the Proposed Rules subforum exists.

This is my solution to the problem. Just model them the way you want and have them count as normal CC weapons.
No conflicts, no disagreements.
