I found a bag of around 30 ancient plastic monopose Tyrannid Attack/Advanced Space Crusade Scouts kicking around my old models box. Must have been my brother's donation when he tapped out of the hobby. Weird! I love them, cool minis, but the monopose is duuuuuuull en masse.

I decided to bolster my Force Org Chart by overhauling them, as I don't like the current sculpts. I'll post up the other squads as I take pics, but here's the results of last night's craft knife and Green Stuff session... 6 Scout Snipers. Yep, I kept the ugly Sergeant models in the squads, was feeling a bit nostalgic. Scuse the over-lighting, had my painting/modelling lamp on. Better pics to follow when painted.

And here's how I made my Bolter-style Sniper Rifles... I'm not a fan of the Long Las look so I wanted something that looks like it's based on Boltgun tech but with the short sniper mag look.

Instructions:
- Take a Cadian lasgun, or lasgun with arms on
- Trim or file off skull/wings, they're just too Imperial Guard... if you're making these for guardsmen you can leave on!
- Cut off lasgun mag - IMPORTANT: leave magwell on! Do not cut off magwell! It's easier not to and saves filling with GS.
- Cut off barrel, and bayonet lug
- Take a Scout Bolt Pistol
- Cut off Scope, stick to rear of top of lasgun - GS to blend if needed, usually you don't though - scope from Marine accessory sprues works too.
- Cut off magazine, stick onto lasgun magwell - if you don't have enough donor Bolt Pistols or don't want to use the straight mag (as I didn't), a Boltgun one cut down in length works fine.
- Cut a short section of plastic rod that's thinner than Bolt Pistol silencer, glue to front of lasgun
- Cut barrel and silencer off the body of the Bolt pistol together - clean up and stick silencer end first to the lasgun assembly.
- GS any gaps, check alignment so it's all square and rifle-y not a wobbly line of assorted plastic chunks
- Voila! Bolt-based style sniper rifle!
Optional: wrap barrel with GS to simulate cloth wrap that snipers use to kill reflections. I part wrap to give a balance between 'heroic' and 'realistic'.

To follow: 2 x 10-man Scout squads with Heavy Bolters, and Sergeants with Teleport Homers. One being painted up, other still has GS work to do.

It is my great regret that we live in an age that is proud of machines that think and suspicious of people who try to.

Very nice job! I really like the look of the old school body armor when paired with your conversions.

Kind of reminds me of third edition where I made some scouts from
-Cadian arms
-Catachan legs and heads
-SM Torsos
-modified plastic Warzone rifles

The Sergeant is adjusting his scope. It's the weakest of the conversions but the base model SUCKS. I really did keep them just for numbers and pure nostalgia! Will try and post up a better shot, and maybe tweak his pose.

Had a lot of fun doing these!

No sorry I meant the guy with the binoculars. Assumed that was the sarge and all, looked like some kind of squad command with the right hand. Scope guy looks great to me.

Those old models really were a pain for the one boring pose, but as you showed they make for great converting. I made one into a Crusader for my Inquisitor henchmen band:

Keep the pics coming, I love it!

Those are some great scouts! They almost look like thats how they were made. I can't wait to see some paint thrown on those.

Ahhhhh, I see which one you mean. He's meant to be doing a tactical hand signal - 'Stop! Wait!' - like SWAT or military teams in movies. It was an Empire Militia hand with the axe chopped off. Looking at references again, the arm should be bent at the elbow with the fist held up. May adjust if it's not obvious...

I'll try and throw up some pics of the test models from the bolt pistol/CCW squad later. I had a 'paint rage' moment last night and gave up at basecoat and wash stage!!! I have 26 of the blighters to paint - two 10-man 'tactical' squads, and this 6-man sniper squad - so am taking shortcuts!!!

Some paint tests on the other scouts. Went a tad wash heavy and need to highlight up, but I'm re-learning after a hobby break of about 3 yrs!

These guys have had reposing, hoods/scarves added, straps, and some custom headgear that makes Brother-Scout Bane a touch hard to understand...

And with his elders and betters...
