Hello Dakka!

The Road to the BAO tournament was a blast, we had a great event with a huge turnout! Up next we're doing a standard Showdown Tournament, which means the usual three rounds and $10 entry. Points level for this event is 1500, so get your armies ready and get down here!

We'll be giving out another boatload of prizes, including prizes for Best General, Best Army, and Best Sportsman, along with other prizes and random door prizes.

2013 Monthly Schedule:
January 12th: Game Empire Championship Series event - Road to the BAO
February 9th: RTT
April 13th: Game Empire Championship Series event - Swiss Anyone?
May 11th: RTT
June 8th: RTT
July 20th: RTT
Augus 10tht: Game Empire Championship Series event - So Fluffy I could Die!
September 14th: RTT
October 12th: Game Empire Championship Series event - The Warmaster Open
November 9th: RTT Coming up Next!
December 14th: RTT

8:30ish - 9:30 - Set up and talk shop.
9:30am - 10:00 - check-in, sign-up, event preamble, pairings
10:00am - 12:15pm - Round 1
12:15 - 1:00 - Lunch
1:00 - 3:45 - Round 2
4:00 - 6:15 - Round 3
6:30 - Winners announced

Prize support will be awarded to Warmaster (Best Overall), Best Imperial, Best non-Imperial. Best Imperial and Best non-Imperial cannot be awarded to someone who also won the Warmaster or Best General awards. Armies that have allied contingents that are not both Imperial or both non-Imperial are not eligible for the best Imperial or non-Imperial awards.

For all of the Championship Series events, the top spot takes home a boatload of store credit, with another haul of credit divided amongst the subsequent placings, and the usual run of totally random (and hopefully completely useless!) Door Prizes!

We're looking forward to a very cool year, so come down and join us!

I personally think any 'ard boyz style event should have a 2500 point limit, otherwise it's only in name!

On a side note, I'd like to see at least one event to have a large points limit just for fun. some people (myself especially) love bigger games and a one-off tournament might not hurt to see what people think about it. =)

Part of the reason we keep the points at 1850 and below is to avoid double force org nonsense and because we have the hard 4 turn minimum rule.

That said, it is certainly worth mulling over and we can certainly make changes to the final event if it seems people are interested. As a caveat, the 4 turn minimum rule was in effect at the Ard Boyz GE: Pasadena ran and I assume Disdainful would continue that tradition if he ran a 2k+ point tournament.

Also, while I helped to shape the tournament series it is Disdainfuls show and any changes to the format will ultimately be his call not mine since I will be participating in as many of the events as possible not TOing them.

Hmmm... That is a question for Disdainful to answer since he is the TO. I will let him know you asked so he can pop in and leave an answer.

You can sign up over the phone at the store, here on dakka, and in person at the store before or on the day of the event. You can also RSVP for the event on Facebook, which, in addition to letting us know that you're coming, qualifies you for a free candy and soda on the day of the event!

You can see the Facebook event page here:

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again, I've been frantically building my Xmas present from John... Cultists! Woo! Now I just need some maulerfiends and warp talons and I'm set!

Are you gonna release the missions being used on the 12th before hand or nah?

And will painting and sports be counted in with the overall score as usual? Or is it just straight w/l as in the BAO?

We are mirroring the BAO format exactly, which you can find here:

http://www.frontlinegaming.org/community/bay-area-open/warhammer-40000-championships-rules-scenarios-and-prizes/

With one exception: Painting to a 3-color minimum is not required. We're fashioning this one as a practice round for the BAO itself, but it's early enough that I don't expect guys to have their lists set in stone yet.

And, obviously, the terrain will be as applicable to the store's terrain collection, and the prize is different.

As for scenarios, I'm just going to pick three of the listed 7, probably one of each combo, which means one Scouring/Purge, one Crusade/Will, one Guns/Relic. Unless anyone has any specific objections, I figure we'd dry-run the whole kit, so to speak.

If painting were a consideration Dok I wouldn't be able to field my 120 Zombies with Necron Allies !

Actually I am seriously considering going pure CSMs ... I know I am nuts.

Are people playing CSM? I only got to look at the codex once, but I assume the same thing still works... Kill it with fire?

I look forward to this greatly!

I lost to Casey and his SW today with my Necrons. I need to seriously rethink what I am doing before this event and the BAO I think.

Hey Dis, you might want to change the leading post if you are not awarding ticket to overall.

There will be a ticket to the BAO for the winnerr, where is your confusion coming from Dave? Just curious so we can fix the issue.

The confusion is does the Best General get the ticket or the Best overall?

That was what I was getting at with my BAO question. Is painting and what not going to be considered to win the ticket? Or is it just best record for the day?

Ah, I see the confusion. We need to change the prize breakdown to represent the BAO system. Thanks for the catch guys! I am pretty sure the intention is to have it work just like the BAO so paint/sports wouldn't factor in so there shouldn't be a best overall and best general award. But hang on for a confirmation on the from Dis. Again, good catch.

You better go to the BAO, Dok!!!!!! I know where you live! Muahahah!

But seriously, I hope you make it, you did well in the past. And you know, I hear there's a pretty cool paint studio that can paint your army called, what was it again, oh yeah, Frontline Gaming! haha

And I look forward to seeing who earns that free ticket to the event, good luck everyone!

You gotta lean on him Reece, we're close to losing him! He does all sorts of silly 'real world' stuff these days, like going drinking with people that aren't talking about toy soldiers, and even playing other games... why, I caught him buying Magic cards last month!

As far as the prizing goes, I will consult with Overwatch and post up the results of said consultation asap. Fingers crossed he can untangle himself from the wife and kids(tm) next Tuesday for a game or two, especially since I finally have enough junk to actually play traitor guard (CSMs will have to wait until I bank some creds, those Maulerfiends ain't buying themselves! )

Put me on the list for Saturday please. I promise I won't oversleep this time...

Do I need to sign up more officially to ensure I have a spot or are we good?

Still have no idea what army to play at this or the BAO...

Oh, I know! I think I'm going to want to play DA. I like the cut of their Jib. I just need to figure out what's good and ship my 30+ termies up to get a decent paint job on them, haha
