On the topic of the new FW chapter tactics -
Since there's already a shark-nado then the next logical step can only be sharks in space.
Someone should do a shark themed army and convert Aquaman to a chapter master.

Ever since a certain road trip to Vegas with a certain book on tape (Carcharodon Megalodon!! An ancient denizen of the deep! The mega shark rides in the warm plume of blood from a dead whale into warm surface waters to terrorize Hawaii! ) The word Carcharodon will always been synonymous with corny for me.

In the real world, I'd love to play some Fire Hawks! +1S flamers, yeah buddy! And S5 Hammer of Wrath hits is enough to make me almost willing to convince myself that Assault Marines aren't total garbage.

Again, I think there's some interesting stuff in there, nothing OP though. I'd probably be ok with an army using one of these sets of chapter tactics in a tournament, provided the army was fully painted in the appropriate chapter colors, etc. No grey plastic Marines counting as whatever.

The only tone I find questionable is red scorpions.

T5 bike army with FNP lead by a FNP eternal warrior 2+3++ chapter master on a bike. Only S10 can strip them of FNP.

Dev centurions would also be beefy but I don't see them being meta changing.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

Agreed. Army-wide access to FNP is a bit much. You gotta pay for the Veteran Sarge to get the Narthecium, but I'd say it's worth it.

Nope changed my mind after re reading the rules. Nartheciums are only on tactical squads. Seems ok.

FW chapter tactics for some alt chapters. Some stuff is simple, like 'Lamenters are chosen from Codex: Blood Angels" and "Sons of Medusa use Iron Hands Chapter Tactics", and some of them get full-custom gospel sounds. What do you guys think of that? I'll admit, my very first reaction was

It's free? ...Really?

In any case, would you be ok with someone using an (appropriately modeled and painted, of course) army with one of the custom rulesets presented there? Would it be cool to include in a tournament setting or no thanks? The only one that seemed a bit much to me on first glance was the Red Scorpions getting free nartheciums on all veteran sergeants.

And the Carcharodons chapter with the little shark on their shoulder pad is pretty silly, but I'm biased.

Are you going to start to allow all forge world?

The Space Marine codex has been out for a month, is it so underpowered that it needs the help?

If there was someone who played one of those armies like Sgt. Barker does his Imperial Fist then maybe, otherwise people will just play the best chapter trait.

The Red Hunters one is awesome for my collection. Can I still use the Blood Angel book but use the Red Hunters Chapter Tactics? At last my Inquisitorial Strikeforce collection can fight as Battle Brothers (even if it's only for home games since that's usually all I play these days anyway)!

I doubt all FW would ever be allowed at GE. There are too many of us who dislike unrestricted FW in tournaments Alan me included. I am not opposed to 1 event a year allowing FW, I am also not opposed to a 0-1 option on FW units in tournaments.

However Travis did state that if someone wanted to use those rules and had an appropriately built and painted army he would not be opposed to them using it. I agree with that actually, if someone has a fully built and correctly painted Red Scorpion army etc I am fine with them using those rules.

Yeah, I mis-read that myself. I thought it was all Tac Squad sergeants AND all veteran sergeants, but it's just Tac Squad sergeants, whether standard or veteran. That's fine.

Unfortunately no; anything chosen from the BA book is strictly a BA army and is differentiated from regular SMs by their specific options. Chapter Tactics, as they stand now, are applicable only to armies from the regular SM book.

And no, Allan, I'm not inching toward forge world. I just wanted to see what people thought about these rules and generate some discussion. Personally, I don't know if the Marine book is underpowered, and if it is, I doubt any of the FW chapter tactics change that. Further, since none of these rules allow FW models or models that are not available to everyone, and are themselves free, I'm looking at them as almost a compendium of supplement material that we might have seen in WD in days of yore. Obviously WD is circling the drain, so these would never see the light of day if that were the only avenue to release them.

Of course, if someone wanted to use these rules, they'd need a fully painted an appropriately modeled army. There's no way I'd let someone walk in with their grey plastic legion or (even worse) already build other chapter army and tell me their trying out this or that set of rules.

Having played against you several times now, I think you could absolutely hold your own. Just bring your cut throat units and mind the round time. These events are definitely good fun.
