Bought a 1930's German made grandfather clock yesterday from an antiques dealer in town.







Always wanted one, but most are way too over the top in both level of ornateness and price.
Spotted this a few weeks ago and took the wife to look at it the other day.
Dropped the fat cash and it arrived this afternoon.
Still fiddling with the timing mechanism, have it down to less than a second too slow per minute, problem is that in a day that ends up being about 20 mins, so will slowly fix it tomorrow.
Also as it is an old one, cannot switch off the chimes... but as it is at the front of the house, it isn't too noisy in the living areas or in the bedrooms.

Actual Black Forest made Cuckoo clock, somewhat of the same features as Waaagh_Gonads' clock. It's ornate, but not crazy over the top ornate, so it fits nicely into the house. It's purely mechanical, which is nice but also a pain in the behind. You have to make sure the entire thing is entirely straight so that the weights and the pendulum can do their thing. Depending on the heat and humidity I have to move the weight on the pendulum from time to time to make sure it keeps on running and that it keeps time correctly, and I also had to make sure the entire thing hangs high enough on the wall so that the cats won't mess with the bottom of the chains when the weights are reset. But I do love the thing.

Waaagh_Gonads, can you take a picture of the "guts"? I'm interested in the mechanism. I've never had a look at an analog clock bigger than a wristwatch.

20 minutes a day isn't horrible, for a clock of that age.
