Damn, those look reeeeeeeeally nice. Be careful when you place the figures so that you make sure they DO trample some of the grass and foliage under their feet. On another note, I think I might have to try that!

Awesome looking bases mate. I think they're just right as they are. The cragglyness of the cork and the brass bitz give the bases a real war torn feel.

I think it need to be wet looking. Especially with all the greenery. Could before you static grass it spray with a varnish spray or use some water effects. other than that it looks like a picnic of doom wiht space marienes.
Note:
Probably a puny Eldar craft world that needs a good buring

But wont this dull the overall jaggedness of the cork?
I have never dealt with varnishes on models, much less cork, and dont know their affects.

Only if you drench it. Proper varnish application shouldn't go on much heavier than a coat of paint. Being transparent, even thicker applications, like you'd get with water effects, don't do much to distort the underlying shapes, so long as they're near the surface. Whether you'd want to do it is another issue, entirely, but it definitely could be done.

Honestly I don't think they need it; the bases look amazing as they are now (going to steal this idea for my next sentinel)
Can we get some more pics, but with painted models?

It looks really good. One thing you might try is to paint some rust and oxidation onto the metal bits. They kind of blend in with the rocks and get lost, and the different colors would make them stick out just enough to add to the overall effect.

I can try that. These bases were to do exactly that: blend in. I was trying to go with real subtlety and have them look like the 'earth' has taken the metal back kind of thing. I can try doing more of a rust thing with the light moisture basing idea, since they match up together as a cause and affect.
Thank you for the suggestion.
Any others?

I can get more pictures out when I finish the termies I am working on. Sadly, I am not as good of a painter and I am a scenery maker. Even though I have been playing for over 10 years, I have only painted a single Tau army, where as I do scenery quite a bit for a father-in-law's model train set up.
I will get more pictures with models, and with a better camera than my phone as soon as I can. Most likely before the end of the week.
