Not sure if this has come up already, but it seems like Rick Priestley – the mind behind 40k - is starting a new game company. They will have a kickstarter starting in the new year.

The idea that the game changes in realtime based on how players perform is kinda badass. It can go wrong in so many ways, but badass if done right.

I like the look of this. I remember reading an interview with Rick Priestly shortly after he'd parted ways with Games Workshop and he said that he was frustrated that they'd only scratched the surface of the 40k universe and there was so much more they could do with it, if only he'd got the chance. Well, now maybe that chance has come. This feels like it could be big, I say that simply because this is the first time that I've been remotely interested in funding a kickstarter, none so far have encouraged me to buy into them.
Can't help but think it may be also a great big two fingered salute to GW also!

Rick Priestley is still alive?
Wow. What else has he done lately?
No, I mean what else that's good.

I may pick up the rules, and maybe even some models, but terms like...
"driven by real player participation and featuring the most successful players as actual world characters"
"evolving universe"
"define the game rules, artwork, miniature range"
"well, it’s mostly in Rick’s head at the moment.."
...don't inspire me much. Just do the work of putting the game together and ask for playtesters. Rather than making a cute website, get it out of your head and on paper.
This in particular...
"driven by real player participation and featuring the most successful players as actual world characters"
....sounds like a real mess. Does anybody actually want to buy/play charachters based on the winners of whatever tournament scheme is produced?
It just seems to me that all this emphasis on crowdsourcing is leading to alot of products that are announced long before they should be. i.e. before the product even exists.

that is actually the point of crowdsourcing, its not supposed to be what it has turned into - i.e. we've made this and now want to pre-sell it to you, it's supposed to be a way for people to get the money they need to get the idea out of their head and into production.
Personally I think it's great that they are coming out so early, it means that the people who invest, instead of just getting a bunch of miniatures that fit someone elses idea, actually get involved in the rules and design of the game themselves (I'm guessing here, as I don't know what the rewards are).
Crowdsourcing has been perverted from what it was supposed to be and is now usually used by companies to presell stuff, which is fine but shouldn;t be called crowdsourcing.
