Hi folks,
I've tried multiple builds with Dark Eldar and I do see many builds with Eldar Allies.
Have any of you tried any other allies? Everybody else is a desperate ally so there are some pretty big drawbacks.
I've been toying with Tau allies for Broadsides. I've tried this in one game against space wolves and while they weren't amazing, it certainly wasn't that bad and the Broadsides were pretty reliable threats.

i play DE most of the time and I almost always take CWE allies.
It's always
Eldrad(divination or telepethy)
5-7 rangers or pathfinders
5-7 firedragons in a cheap dakka waveserpant
I usually take a haemi with a hex rifle and after giving out his pain token he joins the pathfinders to give them nightvision.
I would add scatter laser warwalkers if i could

Sadly not yet, but this weekend I plan on allying some DE into my guard army. I'll keep this thread in mind when I get the results.
My theory behind it all is to have a very fast DE flanking force to harass my opponents' while my imperial guns pound them from a distance. Combined with Al'Rahem, I hope to pincer my opponent between the two.
Not sure how well it will work, but we'll see. I kinda want to go against the grain if I am going to add allies to my army and DE are exotic looking enough with the speed my guardsmen lack.

Well, Exergy how have your attempts with other allies worked out? Maybe I'm misreading your post but I guess by the sounds of it, they've all gone awry.
Here's my theory on why I'm trying Tau.
#1: 6th edition is, imo, a shooters edition.
#2: Dark Lances are not really "reliable" anti-tank, rather it's only reliable in sufficient numbers.
#3: Broadsides are durable and have a small footprint (making the Desperate Allies penalty less of a concern).
I've also thought about IG but my main "problem" is that the footprint I find is big. I'll end up playing this week a bunch and post how it goes.

It has thus far worked great.
The pathfinders force me to have a static location somewhere but they are fairly cheap. If someone comes to get them or moves out of their range I dont fret. They can capture an objective or die valantly.
Eldrad is awesome, having all those powers to buff my units is great. Similarly making everyone else test on 3d6 is awesome. several psykers have just killed themselves. The problem is where to put him. I either put him with the pathfinders or in the firedragon wave serpant, but he then doesnt get out when the dragons exit.
The firedragons are like trueborn but better. They are AP1, there are 5-7 of them, they have 4+ armor, they get + 2d6 if they get close, and they cost 14 points less than trueborn. What is not to like.
Finally the waveserpant is awesome. In the cheap variant we are talking 6 str6 shots to go after light armor, helping save the dark lances for heavy armor.
The list has it's bad moments but with most people still trying to find out how to win in 6th I do very well.
I still lose to mech guard, but with them now taking SW allies and me having the psyker, dragon, and the serpant it doesnt seem so bad.
I have only played full on newcron air twice and once I wont through manuver and outlasting and the other i had hot dice and apparently didnt need skyfire to down all the flyers the turn they came in.

That's good to hear, I guess what I meant was, how has your Non-Eldar Allies worked out? What else have you tried and how have they fared?
I just had a game last night with against my friend's Chaos and again they were reliable and I personally think they are a winner. Maybe it's my build but I find that the Broadsides in particular are a very welcome addition. The other thing I did not anticipate is the fact that the small unit of firewarriors (I only use 6) can be annoying.
First of all, I use them very aggressively because I hardly care about their fate.
Secondly, they are a useful speed bump/distraction and with the changes to moving and shooting rapid fire, they can be very effective at mid range.
For my Tau allies, the detachment I take is roughly:
Tau Commander with twin-linked missle pod
6 Firewarriors
3 Broadsides with 2 Shield drones, 2 target locks.

I only have Eldar, DE, IG, and CSM(or regular marines) I dont hink they would mesh well with DE

You've tried out IG and Dark Eldar and they didn't work?
I was thinking out of the IG, I would use a Manticore, Valkyries and small HQ/Troops. Manticore is badass.
What units did you try and what armies did you face with a DE/IG combo?

Bit of an update here. Played with my MSU dark eldar with Tau allies against a Necron flyer army.
I found that the Broadsides were very helpful with respect to hunting the flyers. The most useful tools for my Dark Eldar with dealing with flyers goes in order:
1) Quad Gun (Aegis Line)
2) Broadsides
3) Razorwing/Voidraven
4) Massed Dark Lances (Ravager/Trueborn, etc).
While I overall am enjoying the Dark Eldar, I wonder if the Space Wolves would also be a very useful ally. Primarily for the "line of death" aka jaws and a bunch of missles. I think for obvious reasons, jaws is a great power and really demands the priority of any player, thus leaving the Dark Eldar alone for a little while.

Yeah, I could see using Space Wolves being better for DE. Some space marines would balance out their general fragility.
Forgot to update myself but I got a game in using DE as allies for my IG. Didn't go to well for me. Though I don't think it was a problem with the DE in-so-much as it was a problem with my IG list overall. I lacked a lot of long range weaponry and expected to be playing an objectives mission which rolled to be Kill Points instead. I can't really judge the DE on that game sadly, but from the little bit I got out of them, reaver jet bikes are awesome.

I've been considering getting some Grey Knight Allies.
Specifically, Coteaz + a Henchman squad, which would probably be 2-4 Jokaero, with 3-5 Guardsman, manning a quadgun or TL lascannon. (and possibly a Dreadknight, just because)
Sat behind an Aegis, or on top of a Bastion / Fortress, and you've got a reasonablly kill Anti-Armour / Anti-Air unit, with a 24" area of denial around the unit for deep striking / flyer entry.
Not entirely sure it'll be worth it, but it'll be fun nonetheless.

Another update, I have played a couple of games with the SW allies.
The way I use them is to have a Rune Priest (using Divination on the Long Fangs for rerolls).
7 grey hunters with a melta in a drop pod and of course Long fangs with 5 missles.
Both games were pretty successful and twin-linked missles is just darn too good.

The drawbacks just dont seem really worth it to do desperate allies. On top of that why not eldar? DE and Eldar make some amazing combos

Hey, I'm just posting this as an alternative to Eldar allies.
I don't view Eldar as amazing and from what I've seen I haven't been that impressed. To be fair, I'm the most active DE player.
In terms of the drawbacks, are we just talking staying 6" away and the fact the marines don't score? The long fangs can just chill in a small squad and the drop pod will be pretty far away.
I don't know what's not to like about 5 missle launchers that are twin-linked and can split fire with a 24" psychic protection bubble.
