hello all in new here so i will try to make this short and sweet
I really want to play a carnifex brood in some of my games but i found out that Monstrous creature don't have power weapons basic attack any more like they had during 5ed, is this still true?
also if you have a monstrous Creature with wing dose it have to be in reserves?

If some one can help clear this up i will be grateful.

your MC have SMASH, which halves your attacks but doubles your strength. Its like the MC version of the PF in a way.

Also, your MC with wings do not have to start in reserves.

On building Tyranid army flow chart.

Do you have enough Termagaunts?

Yes > No you don' t > Add more

Smash also makes all your MC's attacks ap2 whether double strength or not,
So yeah, thats the same as 5th IIRC

MCs have the Smash rule which makes all Melee attacks AP2, and gives the option to make a Smash attack.

The only thing MCs lost was rolling 2D6 for armor penetration.

Halving of attacks is applied after total attacks have been determined (so base + charge + weapon bonuses / 2). So add those Crushing Claw attacks before smashing.

That said, it's not worth Smashing with Carnifexes. They're already S9. You have better chances of penetrating armour without smashing and keeping your attacks.

Whether you halve before or after adding bonus attacks is a fairly controversial topic actually.

This thread covers it. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/465821.page

Regardless, it's true that it's not normally worth smashing with carnifexes.

The wording is quite clear that you only halve your base attack characteristic. Bonus attacks are not halved.

Yes it's very clear, multipliers before add and subtract, just like real math.

The only book that does it differently is GK, cause matt ward.

For anyone wondering about smash halving, just read the USR entry for "smash". It's one of the clearer rules in the book.

Only for one specific Psychic power interacting with Daemon Hammers. it just makes the power special.

It's been a while since I read that, I missed that part.

However, the point still sands that Smashing with a Carnifex is generally not worth it - you're getting +1S and rerolls on armour penetration. It might be worth Smashing if you have Crushing Claws, but its an expensive upgrade that would be better served as a set of Devourers or left as Scything Talons. You've already got 4 S9 attacks at AP2, 5 on the charge. That's plenty sufficient to even get a good hit on an AV14 vehicle, and Devourers give it another way to attack - at range.

Yup. Only Hammerhand. It'd be pretty useful with or without that, honestly.
