Yes, I'm curious about that too, Catyr?
Although, it seems to me that Kickstarters that are in pounds haven't been doing as well, but I don't know why that would be other than the US market not wanting to pay extra shipping for UK kickstarters... or something?

The general feeling is that "£" is a scary symbol to US backers because they don't know how much they are going to actually be spending, and they don't want to pay shipping.

No one likes paying shipping!! I hate it, but it's a necessary evil - Like taxes and vegetables!!
If you google xxgbp to usd (replacing xx with the amount) then you find out how much it is. Quite easy and painless.
Although, I am really disappointed that kickstarter a) forces you to use your local currency on your project and b) doesn't actually do a conversion for you when viewing a project in another currency - even with the caveat 'the conversion is not guarenteed and should be taken with a pinch of salt and spoon of cod liver oil...
I'm going to see if I can find an conversion tool to embed in the project.

I think having it embedded into every project would help things.

lol, sometimes I think breathing is too hard for some people I know!

Seems you can't embed anything as they tie you to their stupid editor and don't let you have a html view, but added a link at the top. Be nice if the site offered it though.
It's funny, because when we used IndieGoGo, we have loads of comments from US chaps and chapettes saying they wouldn't back it because it's not on Kickstarter and they don't want to have to have another password to remember..... Now we're on Kickstarter and.......... sigh.
Just been reading the kickstarter blog about the UK projects, seems you get a conversion anyway if your not in the uk...
What currency will UK projects be listed in?
All UK projects will be listed in pounds sterling. If you are pledging from outside the UK, you will see the approximate conversion rate to US dollars before you complete your pledge.

Conversion rates change on a day to day basis, I'm not going to keep checking to see what the current conversion rate is. It's something I'd just rather not bother with. Plus there is the whole if you drop the ball majorly it's much harder for me to do anything about it legally thing.
I liked it better in the old days when a UK company could just get a US bank account and run their project. Automatically Appended Next Post: Tor Gaming wrote:

IndieGoGo is shady compared to Kickstarter, Amazon payments give Kickstarter a legitimacy that IndieGoGo will never see.

Is this a big issue with people in the US? In the last 12 months the conversion between the GBP and USD has ranged from ~$1.55 to ~$1.62. The last 2 months ~$1.6055 to ~$1.62.
I'm not having a go, just trying to figure out the mentality behind it so I can see if there is something we can do about it.

Hmmm, not sure about that. Indie uses paypal. Bith paypal and Amazon are just as shady as each other. In fact, just use PP as a payment gateway for your credit card and you get the same protection as on amazon when using a credit card.... I assume you guys have something like a chargeback on sub £100 purchased and our section 75 for payments of £100 or over where the CC company is equally responsible for purchases so if something goes wrong they just give you your money back and kick the retailer?
It would be really good to know how it works for you guys so we can figure out if we can work out a way to ensure you are still protected if something goes wrong - Although we have successfuly completed one project already and have a pretty good understanding of how the process works!

There are people that backed Reaper's Kickstarter and didn't realize they were getting plastic models, which makes it seem that 'Reading the Project Description' is a hard thing to do for some people.

It's an issue for me, and based upon how well Kickstarter's that ran in foregin currency have done in the past it's obviously a problem for others. On the other hand I will admit this would have been less of a problem if I hadn't just received my awsome Dreadball stuff a few weeks ago... Automatically Appended Next Post: Tor Gaming wrote:

yeah,
First up there is No legal recourse to not getting your rewards on Kick-starter. you back a project and may get a reward if the project is fruitful.
Not all projects produce fruit (except a warm fuzzy feeling inside)...
I'll do the yanks a favour and break it down for them...
$35 for 12 Britanan All-Star players plus $16 postage = $51 approx $4.2 per player (inc postage)
$41 for 15 Britanan All-Star players plus $16 postage = $57 approx $3.8 per player (inc postage)
(more players might get added if stretch goals are reached)
Pretty fair prices if you ask me.
And remember you not just buying minis here, your helping the community and enabling people to make dreams happen.
If the shoe was on the other foot I'd back this from and american Kick-starter.
To me it seems that there are a lot of americans that think america is the center of the universe and want it all on their own terms!?
There is a bigger world out there... and it's quite nice.
Panic...

yeah,
I didn't generalise I never said all Americans.
My opinion is that US kickstarters have spoiled Americans into expecting 'free' postage on kickstarters.
While non-US backers have been paying postage on all Kickstarters from the start, So we are more accustomed to the idea of paying extra for ideas that kickstarted over seas.
Check my Kickstarter Profile I basically ask project people to reduce costs of postage and help me avoid tax if possible!
I understand that Postage sucks!
Anyways back On topic.
I believe that the biggest market for these minis will be the blood bowl market, which is massive in america, So I hope americans will see past $16 postage! and back this project and help us get those stretch goals.

Generalis(z)ations are never great, I'd be wearing a bowler hat and drinking tea from a cup and saucer if they were true!
I'd just like to understand what barriers we may be experiencing for the US market so I can see if I can work out a way to avoid them.
I always listen to what you guys have to say and try and find solutions to it. One thing that someone brought up on another forum was the fact that they weren't happy with the loadout of the teams as they stand, so we are now allowing anyone who gets one or more team to pick and choose the packs that go in that team form the packs of the same price (Project price of £6). So, that is currently Linemen, Scoopers and Guards. If we hit the target and the first two stretch goals, the Runners and the Brutes fall it that category.
We are even thinking of allowing people to choose actual model numbers (not sculpts though) so if they only want two guards, then that's what they get. But for that, it would be a random selection of sculpts for the positions they choose.

Hi guys and girls,
We have decided, after being asked by a few people, to actually allow people to pick and choose the composition of their teams, right down to individual models!
This means, if you pledge for a team, you can actually choose what positions you will get in it up to that teams model count (2nd division is 12 models, Premier division is 15 models). The options to choose from are currently the Lineman, Guards and Scoopers. If we hit the stretch goals 1 then Runners will be added to the list of options, and if we hit stretch 2 then Brutes will be added to the options.
This means you can tailor the team to what you want.
NOTE: Whilst you can choose the player types, you will not be able to specify actual sculpt preferences. Although we will make sure you get a good spread, we can't guarantee you will get x or y sculpt. We will keep duplicate sculpts down to the minimum.

Would have been nice to announce here that the KS was canceled for now. I was at first wondering where it was
full post
The plan
Update #11 · Jan. 05, 2013 · comment
Hey everyone,
So, over the last couple of days I have been talking about this project and some of the issues we are finding with it.
I have now decided to cancel this project as we have another one we want to kick off for Relics. It was planned to launch that one once this one was complete and casting had begun but I feel this one will not be a success so see no need to delay the Relics project.
As such, I will be stopping this project today. The Relics project will start in the next few days hopefully and with it you will be able to boost your Relics forces with new, unreleased sculpts for the existing units. It will also be an ideal way to get into the game!
We will be using some of the ideas and changes on the Relics project that we feel are needed to help us overcome some of the issues we have experienced. (still don't get them myself)
The All-Stars will return after if Relics project is a success, or as a normal release scehdule item is not. so keep an eye out.
I'd like to thank you all for your support on this project and hope we can count on you all to jump straight on the new All-Stars one when it is running - and maybe even the Relics one??
Many thanks
Gavin.

If there is going to be a Relics KS I am going to pledge a good amount
I love the game and the miniatures.
I didn't pledge for Kingdom Death (the gameplay is really nice but I really don't like the grotesque models) so I still got some 2012 budget ^^
About the GBP, I am happy about that, means it's going to be less shipping GB to EU is easier then US to EU

Sorry about that! I really did think I had posted on here about it.
We do have plans for a KS for Relics very very soon (it's in review stage at the moment with KS and I am putting the video together - Got a new laptop so the video software runs a lot better now! w00t!)
The project is aimed at enabling us to produce the missing sculpts for the profiles in the main book. The main target, and each stretch goal, will bring another pack of ministures (1 mimimum sized units worth) for each faction.
Here is the graphics for the main goal:
We are listing all prices in GBP and then in ~USD in backers. I hope that will make it easier for people in the US! UK and EU are shipping free.
We are taking a different tack with this in that instead of having a list of predefined bundles to choose from, we have created shoppign lists of all the products with their MSRP on them, then the pledge you choose will enable you to pick and choose from the lists what you want up to you pledge value +x% which starts at 20% and ends at 40%.
As we hit targets, the items in that target will be added to the shopping lists - so when we hit the main target, the four packs in the image above will be added to the lists and you will be able to choose them as items to have. If we do really well, the chances are there will be items on the shopping list that we won't be releasing for general purpose for almost a year after the project, so it will be very good to get on the project and get the stuff mega early!
We still have some predefined bundles - such as starters and rulebooks plus a choose of a £5 item from the list etc etc to make it easier for those getting into the game on the KS but with out the background knowledge of what does what!
You can also choose to come and lunch and a game with me in the Tor office! You will get a T-shirt that says if you won or lost! (most likely won!) and see all th studio models and what we have coming up like other games etc.
If this is a very good success and see get though all the existing profiles from the book, we will add unseen profiles - maybe even the C'thu and/or Ridend!!!
Not sure if I should have posted all that in a new thread - or if anyone has already started a thread for it..... I sometimes feel like I shoudln't be posting on forums, seems cheap. lol Feel free to take the above and start a new thread!
