Ok first let me say that I had no intention of trying this when I left the house last Saturday, it just happened.

While setting up for a pickup game at my FLGS my opponent noticed I had a Monolith in my box. I always take my Monolith along with me even if I am not fielding it simply because I love it that much. When I told him that I was running the Doom Scythe instead because it was cheaper the guy said he would rather play against it than me take the Doom Scythe. I was like, Cool, that puts me over though, which he didn't mind.

*Note* with the Doom Scythe it would have been a 3 flier list at 2000pts.

So there you have it. If you want to pay only 175 for your Monolith show up with a Doom Scythe and offer not to play it if the guy will give you the discount on the Monolith.

LOL

How about bringing 3 annihilation barges nexxt time. Maybe you can get a 110pt discount for your monolith? Better yet, bring 3 spyders, each a separate unit. Then you could potentially only pay 50pts for the monolith.

200 points, yes, it can move, but only up to 6'' per turn.

Pretty gentlemanly of you to make the change.

I'd likely have done the same, but I'm wondering if there is agreement with me that it was a bit lame of the opponent to ask you to change your list?

Seems a bit assuming, is all.

Edit: Especially considering 3 flyers in 2000 points is remarkably tame.

Only by the internet's standards. Most people I run in to do not have the ability to deal with 3 fliers at 2000 points.

Sounds like sub-par listbuilding.

I use my monolith all the time, people panic and shoot all their big guns at it leaving my army free to advance for a turn or two.

And if for some reason they dont focus on it the S8 ord dinner plate of death punishes them for their mistake.

Its win win it either acts as a fire magnet shielding your army or blows big chunks out of their infantry.

I thought there was a combo to lower the Monolith somehow based on the thread. This tactic doesn't work, so much as opponent's requested alterations is the case. I was thinking assault marines=cheaper rhino or something along that lines.

Merry Christmas though. I will be adding this to all posts today, regardless of religions. I'm not feeling PC today.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I love my monoliths as well. I have 2 of them from my 4th edition days. I also love the thematic image of a monolith deepstriking into an opponents lines and then every turn just releasing squad after squad of necrons. Of course it never works out that way. Unless you can find "opponents lines" that don't involve multiple melta guns

When in doubt burn it, then burn yourself for doubting.
