Hullo there,

I thought it was time to post some proper pictures of my Ultramarine army.
I started Warhammer about 10 years ago, but only properly started 1 year ago, as an adult you have much more money to spend on models and paint.

I really enjoy the painting part of the hobby, I hope that shows a bit. Some of the stuff is good, some of it is not so good.
You can clearly see the first Black Reach box Dreadnought is my first work a year ago, and then the two marine close ups show my current skill.
For me its getting a cool table top quality while keeping some level of speed in finishing things. Still, the reason I've posted only 2 single marines is because these Tactical Squads take freaking ages this way lol.

Well anyhow, there's a few things in there that are not 100% finished yet (shhh!) and some decal transfers I used in the beginning (now its all freehand yoho). Anyway I figured I needed to post something otherwhise its never going to happen, cause lets be honest, when is something ever really finished?

Enjoy!

Chris

Razorback "Uriel"

Rhino "Icarus" (someone told me the bolter pintel is backwards, I like to think the Adeptus Mechanicus got creative)

Vindicator (this one was largely drybrushed, done in 3 hours to see the difference from my normal painted vehicles which take far longer)

Landraider "Vindicus" (First landraider I painted, the lasguns drooped from blowdrying ouch. Fixed it with some battle damage ;-) )

Landraider "Dawn of the Emperor" (still finishing thise one, shh dont tell - mainly test for weathered look and converting/freehanding)

Drop pod for my sternguard veterans (Tried to get some story in there, imaged this one dates way back from the first Tyranid wars n stuff)

Dreadnought (first model painted 1 year ago, this one is pretty lame)

Assault Terminator with lightning claws

Terminator Squad

Tactical Marine Sargeant (more recently painted)

Tactical marine (more recently painted - if only all my models were like this)

Venerable Dreadnought (opting to re-paint this model, everything but the gold plating)

And finally a few "action pics" on my home-made terrain:

Wow man. The vehicles here are top notch! The subtler painting, like the drop pod text, the mural on the first LR, and the weathering on the second one are simply awesome. Very deep and three dimensional.

It's spelled "cavalry." NOT "calvary."

Those models have been done exquisitely, I envy you purely just for the raw talent you have and the quality put into these miniatures. With these models you really are a brilliant and well placed person to be in the hobby. Well done, I take my hat off to you.

Vehicles are phenominal! Ultramarines have such boring basic marines in my opinion. Excellently painted though.

I really like the Tyranid trophy that the Ultramarine has on him and the Venerable Dready's trophy!

Their all really well done, even the first Dreddy!

Hey Chris,

These are beautiful. The edge is nice but you really have to commit to it over the whole model like you did. I do agree they look great. I'm wondering what kind of brushes you use ?

Nice work Chris

This was 100% awesome until the AoBR dread. Mold lines and undrilled barrels!!!

Otherwise, excellent.

Nothing special just a bunch of gw brushes in various sizes.
I found mostly your brush technique matters, the thickness of the paint, the way you "load" the brush etc.
Also these edges foremost take a lot of time. You cant speed them or take shortcuts. For 1 marine this means the 3 highlight steps means over an hour of work. So thats a day for a squad of ten.

Wonderful...just stunning...

My only dislike is the Ork player is using Stormboyz....ewww...

Insane paintjob with the faded text and such. I dont even have an idea how to do that let alone can actually do it lol

An ork with an idea tends to end with a bang.

Hey man thanks. The letters are quite easy:

Pick dark gray paint. Dilute with lot of water on your palette.
Pick a detail brush and load with paint. The trick is to wipe the brush dry a bit bedore painting, because the paint is now super thin.
Then just paint thin lines. Because the paint is really thin it will fade/be transparent. Build up layers to make it darker.
The good thing with thinning the paint down alot is that you get a lot of chances to get it "right" because you dont have this thick black line at once. Hope that makes sense.

Very nice army. Out of the bunch, I particularly like the Drop Pod. Between the very subtle lettering and Tyrannic ward type conversion, it really stands out as quite a complicated piece as well as very original. I've not seen anything done quite like that. Thanks for sharing.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

Yeah i always felt drop pods are the most boring thing to paint so i had to exite myself into it. Thats hoe the idea of a converted story-driven drop pod came to mind. Planning to do a few more with different "stories" to them, gotta keep it fun for myself ehe

Nicely painted models though you are a bit inconsistant with the drilling of the holes for guns. Some have them others don't.

Also nice attempt with the stuff on the Drop Pod, shame you didn't get them all lined up neatly.

Otherwise good job!
