Hello all, this is a project log that I'm going to be updating every so often. I was looking through Army Builder, and found this thing called "Mailed Fist Tank Company". This, accompanied by the recent discovery of some Leman Russ alternative, has led me to start making a Tank Company.

The parts I'll make my Lemans out of this KV-1 and various Forge World turrets. I've discovered that this will be approximately $10 cheaper than buying a Leman Russ from GW.

Most of these pictures are for your use, in case you like what you see. For the most part, it's following the directions. Any changes will be pointed out.

I quickly discovered that the creator of the tank was a bad modeler. Not "bad" as in "he sucked" (far from it, he's a great modeler), "bad" as in "this guy's pure evil".
[Thumb - IMG_0834.JPG]
He provided a jig for you to place each track link (one at a time) on. Evil I tell you!

That actually looks totally awesome.

I hadn't considered the combination of the Russ turret to a historical chassis which is less silly, but they really do go well together.

Only real problem I see is you could never really use sponsons.

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

Which is convenient, because I never had a desire to use sponsons.

I think that if I decide to use sponsons, I'll just slap some guardsmen with heavy weapons on there.

Really like the tank to Chimera conversion. Subbed and will be watching this. Looking forward to seeing where this goes.

SURPRISE ATTACK GENTLEMEN, the first tank is done! I just need to deal with some flash, scrub the forgeworld parts clean of release agent, and paint it.

As you all probably noticed, Knight-Captain Alaric is chilling out on the top.

Unfortunately, I discovered that the turret ring on the FW turret is too small for the body, so if you guys want to attempt this conversion, you'll have to attach something to the bottom of the turret to make it fit. I used a small section of rubber tubing or something like that. I don't know what it was.

thats quite cool. I am going to be using a Churchill to do a similar conversion myself if I can find a cheap enough one.

And the Vanquisher cannon is stupidly looooooooong!

It's perfectly in scale with the hull though. I find it quite glorious.

It's also thrifty! Even with the forgeworld turrets, it's cheaper than a standard Russ (and IMO looks better too)!

Just though is the KV-1 a 1:48 or 1:35 scale?

Found a 1:35 Churchill but its as expensive as a Russ. Re-considering and might either try and find a 1:48 Churchill or a Sherman seeing as they had an absolute ton of variants.

Makmut would make a good Griffon and the Preist could be a Basilisk or Medusa.

The KV-1 is 1:48 scale, and costs about $18. The turret is about $17, so it turns out around $10 cheaper than the regular Russ. It's still a great deal if you decide to buy the Leman Russ accessories sprue for the dozer blade and/or hull stowage.

I just have a folder full of my favorite stuff to drool over. I'm constructing my Renegade IG army and heavily converted (looted?) projects make me warm and fuzzy inside.

That tank is sweet, the GW leman russ is a bit too short and stumpy for me, your tank may provide 'inspiration' for a future IG i'm planning in my head!

That chassis could also provide a great base for a Ragnarok siege tank, If you scratch built a boxy turret for it!

Individual tank links can be a pain to assemble, but they allow for such a greater level of detail. You can truly capture the sagging effect of the tracks on the top of the return rollers if you do it right.

Thin your paints, drill your gun barrels, remove all mold lines. The Emperor wills it.

The top saggy on the bottom non-saggy were each a whole part. It was just the curves on the drive wheels that i had to assemble one by one.

I stole the idea but I used a 1:35 Panzer II, they didnt have a 1:48 Churchill which was what I wanted although I have now found one - £22 though so with FW turrets its going to be nearly as expensive as the GW Russs. Still might make one though

Just a play with an Eradicator turret from a Russ kit on top...

Yup, copied. Just ordered 4 of these off ebay, £32. Free delivery. I've got one leman russ turret lying about. If I can get 3 more for under £30 I'll be well happy. Might even look at some of the 3rd party ones rather than FW. Thanks for the inspiration.
