So I am not at all interested in using CSM as troops, and have been looking more at Cultists. 35 dudes with autoguns and 3 heavy stubbers is a measly 200 points, but the problem is I have no idea how to Mark them. I don't want them necessarily being in CC, although they might win due to sheer number of attacks. Tzeentch could be useful for the 6+ invuln, nurgle for the T4, and slaanesh is practically useless. Its basically between nurgle and Tzeentch. I'm mainly playing against Necrons, Tau (Farsight deathstar of Crisis Tau, so tons of twin-linked missiles and plasma), Dark Angels (again, more plasma), and maybe DE once my brother wraps his head around them. Any advice?

Save the points, marks a pretty pointless on cultists IMO.

Throw more cultists, instead of a mark. Cultists are all about numbers.

I'd say the best one would be Nurgle but I agree with necronlord3, save the points for something a bit more useful.

“Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.
The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does.
That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

If you want to invest points in your Cultists you should look at something that buffs their Ld like a Lord or a DA.

Last game I ran my Cultists (only squads of 10 tough) I had 2 squads both with MoN and one with Lord. The squad without ran off the table at turn 3 after they got hit by a frag-missile.

Playing mostly Necromunda and Battletech, Malifaux is awesome too!

Nurgle is the only mark worth a damn on cultists. You can kinda use khorne, but nothing else really.

I run 35 cultists naked. Juggling flamers etc in a mob of 35 is virtually impossible.

The only time I'd put anything on them would be a MoN for a Typhus list of potentially flamers if you're counting on the unit being stationary. If you want to move around and punch things though, 35 models at 150 points is great.

MoN if any mark but its kind of a waste of points. with the 6 plus most of the time they should be camped at objectives in cover if possible.

Mark them with a cool chaos logo in red paint.

Save the points for something else

If you must mark them, give them nurgle. Anything else doesn't do enough to be worth the points.

I'd rather make them Zombies with Typhus. It's the best upgrade for them and makes them a surefire tar-pit unit.

I thought a cheap mark of Khorne and NOTHING else would put out lots of attacks but in the end I fell on the side of unmarked.

mark of khorne and they cost 5 points a model, MoN and they cost 6 points a model.

Ork boys(sluggas) cost 6 point a model, have the toughness of MoN, the same number of attacks as MoK(but more in successive rounds of combat). They are fearless in numbers, they can take a Nob(better than any cultist champion), have WS4, FC, better special weapons

if you want to use cultists for anything other than Chaff you should really consider either allied ork boys or allied IG platoons.
