Hey everybody!
As I am a student in a little town in the middle of no where, I rarely get to play a game of 40k. I've been working on converting some friends to 40k (I WILL get them one day!), but usually the only time I get to play is when I'm home on break. Before I leave town again, I always make sure that I get in a huge apoc game. I just love seeing hundreds of models and dozens of tanks getting blown away every turn.
My questions to you Dakka are:
1) What is your apoc army (or armies). Im not asking for a points list, just a general sense of what you run.
2) What is the largest game you have participated in? How did it go? What happened?

I'll go first: 1) I run 5k of tau right now. About 20 Battle suits, 9 Hammerheads, and 6 squads of FW. Because its Tau there are not a lot of options to mix it up and such, but I enjoy using the army. I'm also working on creating an Snakebite themed Ork army with 200+ boyz and some squiggoths.
2) The largest game was my most recent one last September. I set up a 20k per side battle with Marines/Guard/Tau vs Orks and Necrons. We forgot to set up objectives (whoops, all my fault ) so it turned into Kill Points, which is fething CRAZY for apoc. Evil beat good 40 something to 30 something. It was a great game, and I'm glad I got to see all my mates before I left for college.

I am currently close to 7000 points of grey knights, with another 1000 point inquisitor list, giving me about 8000 points total from the grey knights codex. I have not yet played an apocalypse game yet but will hopefully get to in 2013 sometime.


*** almost forgot, I haven't put it together yet but I also have a baneblade kit.

For some reason, I've always toyed with the idea of having a Footslogging Imperial Guard army in Apoc.

Like, im talking 100,000 points of nothing but Guardsmen and their Heavy Weapons. It will never happen for me, because the money and time required will destroy any hopes of me going to college but ya never know...

My largest game though was a 10,000 point match me and my buddy who just came back from Afghanistan did. Of course, he supplied most of the models because my army isn't even close to that level....

When I have played Apoc previously (this is in 5th Ed, mind you) I either used Chaos Space Marines or Necrons.


Of course, as I only ever played Apoc in my local GW, we played teams, which is good as I don't have much more than 2000 points of chaos, or 1500pts of Necrons.


But I always played a key part, always fun sing someone's baneblade or stompa against them (with Necrons), or just screw them with massive amounts of chaos space marines.


Haven't played Apoc in 6th yet, but I'd probably use Chaos Space Marines.

I've taken part in a few FLGS apoc matches with my entirely on foot Dark Angels and Deathwing with IG allies.

Well I suppose I'd better reply to this...

My apocalypse force is a 3500pt compliment of Ultramarines, in a mechanized spearhead of tanks, transports filled with tac marines, and loads of dreadnought support. However in the big games all this is just cannon fodder for the hammer or the emperor. I have a 2500pt Warlord Titan. Two volcano cannons, and turbolaser destructors. In a single turn it can cut it's way through a thousand point worth of enemies.

The biggest game I've ever played was 15000pts a side, 4 players per team with my titan vs. 4 superheavy tanks. It was actually pretty balanced, but the devastation was undeniable.

There was a thread a while ago totalling everyone's army sizes, and someone put down about 60000 points. And, it wasn't the biggest.

I once organised a 22-player, 44,000 point battle recreating Operation Overlord, including attached Pegasus Bridge and Pont-du-Hoc scenarios...

My apocolypse army is my Imperial guard. I forget exactly how many points, but I've got well north of 12,000 points, including a full tank company, a couple hundred infantry, a sentinel company, and plenty of elites. (all painted, of course)

I can also join about 2500 points in Grey Knights.

My largest game was about 10,000points. I felt that was a little too big for two guys.

Biggest game I ever got part of was 15000pts and featured armies from about 30 odd 12yr olds are a GW, although it did include one veteran guard player and his 14 Baneblades, 2 Shadowswords, Reaver Titan, Vortex Missile Launcher, and another guy with every concievable Land Raider variant.

The biggest game i have had, i think, was a 15k game. IW and orks vs a mixed bag of Grey knights, BA and Codex Marines.

We basically curb-stomped the entire loyalist force. But that was largley down to abysmal deployment choices on the others teams part (fielding 3 Strom Ravens, a Thunderhawk and a Stormbird, as well as 3 land raiders - all empty - chose to footslog his army instead).

IG/ SoB mix...IG is close to 5k and SoB is around 2k

biggest game was on saturday - a 3 way 10,500/side battle...

IG/DA/BA vs Necron/Chaos/'Nid vs Eldar/GK

the all imperium side lost horribly ( i like to mention we now all hate the tesla weapons from the 'crons) and it was a draw from the other two sides

I own about 100 tactical marines, plus a bunch of devastators, assault marines, scouts, and two command sqauds...couple the troops with their commanders and 3 land raiders + squads of preds, land speeders, and vindicators, and the centerpiece warhound titan, and I've got myself enough to win the day

I've never had a chance to field it all in the same game unfortunately, but my bigggest game ever was a 4 player, 3k per side game...nothing to write home about I suppose but it was epic enough

Nowadays I run a fluffy Tanith First and Only army in apoc: 20 Vindicare Assassins (basic Tanith guys), Lord Draigo (Gaunt), Sly Marbo (Tanith Scout) + Strategic Redeployment Asset. Plays exactly like in the books. My opponents generally hate it, I dunno why .

Otherwise, I own a lots of stuff, but the biggest game I ever played was "only" 100k per side where I only had a 12k strong army. Yeah, being the guy with the smallest army (the other armies were 2x44k and 2x50k strong) sucks in Apo...

Just my Ultramarines. I could throw in a pittance of guardsmen aswell, I suppose.

2 Contemptor Mortis are the most noteworthy thing in that list. 3 Vindicators. Cassius, Calgar, etc.

Though, I got to hold pieces of a reaver titan before. I don't think I've held a thousand dollars of model in my hands before, but it was pretty cool.
