yeah, but it's the whole look of it- lord of the rings and 40k look more realistic because they're not travelling in blocks, but as individuals. It also offers more of an opportunity for converting, because in fantasy, you have to consider that your model's going to need to fit in base to base contact with four different people around it ^^

Ack no no no lols... sorry don't agree. WHFB harks back to ancient times when infantry fought as blocks, like the Romans, Egyptians, Babylonians, Greeks, Celts, Vikings, Normans etc etc etc

there is strength in numbers and fighting as a cohesive block of infantry. I think you see it with modern eyes, where modern warfare dictates individualism as a unit.

but anywho... FIND SOMETHING TO PAINT... ITS AN ORDER

No, elements of their forces did... considering the Viking Capitol of Britain is just down the road from me, I think I know

whats the point of the Viking army skirmishing against block troops? it would barely make a dint. Their tactics were hit and run with the units of skirmishers to distract against the block hammer of their armies strike.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
also, every military force in the ancient world used skirmish techniques in one form or another, but, primarily they used block walls of troops, the most common during Viking times was the shieldwall, the interlocking of shields to form a rigid defence... something you can't do when running about in skirmish formation

Mostly, on my phone.

Tentatively, I'm in. I'll probably do one of the two heroes that I've got planned for my DW, or just might do my SAGA Welsh Warlord for the random factor.

Sign me up, I need some motivation and a kick in the rear to break out the brushes again.

But what to paint? Alpha Legion (40k) Sorcerer or (30k) Preator? Inquisitor Lord? AdMech Magos? Artscale Deathwatch? the possibilities are endless!

... and so will the desicion-makeing be aswell I fear.

I have a little hobby-thread going in the P&M section. Some say it's the best blog on Dakka, some don't agree, most belive it would be better if I finished at least one project some time this century and not just kept starting new ones.
Check it out, you just might like it.

TBH, the BT dude I'm going to enter is mostly done, he just needs some minor work and painting, so shouldn't be too much of a distraction. Having said that I was looking at my IG trench diorama earlier and drawing some inspiration to doing more work on that... Soo many projects, soo little time

Maybe I should find something that I can truly go nuts on mith a NMM-heavy paintjob? I used to be very good at that during my Rackham-period back in 06' so it might be an idea to see if those wings will still fly as good as they used to.

just 1 shot when you submit your final - kinda of a honor system about cheating. Thanks! spread the word please.

Also i am going to be gone most of tomorrow, so sorry if there is a delay in answering questions or posting you to the contestant list. Please come be a hero, and take part in this comp! Painting is only a small factor so do not let it discourage you!
