These are excellent, but I don't get why the walls have to slope inward. Can't they slope outward, or just be straight? Assembly does look a bit fiddly, but I'm sure it's nothing. I wish he did include rooms, but maybe those are stretch goals... I also wish the rooms were compatible with spacehulk and 40K, like each square is 40mm wide. Also, no interlocking method to keep the board pieces together. I also feel bad for this guy, once someone grabs his designs and straight-up copies them, like what happened with those walkway sections by that one company. --Chris www.chrisvalera.com

The walls slope inwards because they do in Aliens.

I have to say that these do look very good. However, I think $100 plus international shipping is going to mean that I am not going to go in for this and certainly not for the amount of corridors etc currently on offer, though with so long left I think the stretch goals might really start to fill out. Think I will (when I have the money and the room ) opt for the WarMill corridors, as nice as these corridors look (and they do look very nice), WarMill's stuff looks nice too - and domestic shipping too

Is the appeal of this campaign (over the tiles I linked to above) just having the walls? Because I feel like the tiles that Navarro helped sculpt are way better...
I have yet to see someone post that they have them, though- I'd love to see a review. Or better yet, a comprehensive list of all "space corridor" options, to help me pick the best!

For me personally, the walls are a real bonus, adding a lot over just flat tiles.
Plus in skirmish games it allows you to have internal and external spaces with actual LOS blocking already in place. Some of these systems can also potentially be stacked on top of one another as well to create various levels.

One thing I am wondering with this is how will people know where their miniature is placed if games are run on a tile by tile movement system. I don't see a lot of definition of squares for the hallways as they are at the moment, so it might be a tad hard to determine where a person is placed, especially if these are designed with 25mm based miniatures in mind.
This can be overcome by different coloured stripes on the floor to show where each of the squares are, but it might ruin the effect.

There were comments to that effect on the KS backers discussion. Though it is not too hard just to have short measurement sticks or something for "X squares" type movement games.

A good suppy source for the wood is going to be improtant too. I know a guy who makes laser cut ships and ran a kickstarter. He had trouble getting the plywood in the quantity and quality needed to fill all his orders.

Speaking for myself, if you sand the wood a bit it does take out most of the woodgrain, and two thin coats of paint are generally enought o get you rid of most of the remaining texture.
My stuff from Burn In Designs was the same and it's good. I feel less concerned about potential warping from plywood, than MDF, honestly.

These are excellent, except there's no interlocking system and the alien gribblies start at the connector points for some reason, so they don't match up, if you were to but sections together. They should have started at the sides, creeping in like plant roots. Also, there's no clear delineation of techno-bits and alien secretions, like in the film Aliens. Personally I like the walls from this new kit, just not the fact that they slope inward. I wish they were Space Hulk and 40K compatible, maybe looking like the Space Hulk tiles, but with the squares 40mm. Make it like a cross between that and the techno bits from the Hirst Arts stuff, with enough space on the sides to move figures. I just checked the stuff from Burn In Designs and it looks excellent, almost as good as the official Infinity stuff. Once 3d printing and this wood etching stuff catches on, you can make connector pieces that allow you to connect the various systems. --Chris www.chrisvalera.com

To get it to mesh with two systems might be a bit hard.
Space Hulk has 40mm tiles, whereas games like Sedition Wars and others are based on 1" tiles (roughly 25mm). Won't be easy to incorporate both into the one system.
I like the walls sloping in, as I like the Aliens aesthetic, and also it makes a change from straight walls. Gives you space to do stuff like running power conduits or cables down the side as well.

The only thing lacking at the moment in my eyes are some details one the exterior wall. That and maybe some really large open spaces (larger than just a single room) would be great!
I might pledge tomorrow, will have to find room space to put it all though...

Same here. I'd like to see painted examples, too.
Some are concerned about the wood grain showing but I remember a basic woodshop class trick that will help. Moisten (don't soak) the surface of the wood to make the grain swell slightly and then sand with fine grit. It will dry smoother than if you simply sanded. Oh, and this is for plain surfaces, nothing with laser-etched detail on it.
Oh, and Ken's put up the next stretch goal ... $35K for the Airlock. It is an "Advanced Stretch Goal" which means it's automatically added to "Level 3" pledges ($325 and up) but is a $15 add-on at lower levels.

He's added a picture of corridor with a basic paint job (still needs a bit of detail work) and there are more options as far as rooms and such go now. And there is a big airlock on the way and some further interior wall/door options indicated past that:

While I have no exact measurements I think that the squares are much larger than that. Though honestly I don't think I have seen a shot with actual models in yet!

These are really incredible looking. Head and shoulders above alot of competitors I've seen. In addition to what you've been creating, to allow people to make the larger rooms they want, you may want to consider some sort of modular room creation system. Basically, if you create seperate free standing wall sections and floor tiles, you now have given the ability to create the larger rooms people have been talking about without having to create new room for every size that's required. Also, those should incorporate some way to interlock, even if it's as simple as a jigsaw type cut on the floor panels to hold them together. That also brings up the question, do the current pieces have that capability? Regardless of the answer, my budget (read: wife) won't allow me to get these now, but seeing as how my Marines are fleet based, I'd really like some in the future. Good luck, and I'm glad to see how well this project is coming along for you.

I shall pass the idea of modular rooms onto the ks page as that is something I would also love to see!
Also. I got a negative back on maybe getting some exterior details for the walls. However, I had the cunning plan of using the leftover "sprue" bits and sticking them onto the exterior to give it a little more depth. I also have a bunch of interesting shaped wood from my Warmill fortress that I was saving for just such an occasion! Automatically Appended Next Post: Ah, never mind! It seems that the modular room idea is already being worked on as we speak. The trouble is apparently trying to configure it so that it remains compatible with the corridors themselves...

And another Stretch Goal is achieved ...
THE INTERIOR WALL:
While not "glamorous" these are really useful and can be used in several ways ... as an Endcap with a door (double them with a little space between to make an Airlock, as a Bulkhead between corridor sections, turn a corridor section into a room with a door on one end and a solid endcap on the other (L- and T-shapes, too), as Walls to enclose the Wide Corridor piece...)
Pledgers at different levels get anywhere from 2 - 10 of these added in for free and you can also buy individual ones.
