I'll say this right off: I stopped reading Spider-man waaaay back at One More Day.

But I saw this today and had to wonder Just HOW bad a Spider-man story had to be if this was Stan Lee's reaction.

That's some serious criticism from Mr. Lee right there.

I guess so. To be replaced with the Superior Spider-man and his new sidekick, the original Master Man.

Sadly, only the part about Master Man is me being sarcastic.

Never you mind...

The comic book looks like it's been photoshopped in to me...I could be wrong though...

I don't think you are. I don't know for sure but if you look at how there is some pretty bright light off to the side, none of it is reflected as glare off the comic, which is reasonable glossy. Instead it's evenly lit all across the surface and remains perfectly flat, not even slightly curved.

The picture is a joke that's been circulating awhile now but the sentiment is shared by a lot of people. I don't read comics anymore but I don't see this change being that good for the IP.

Went through the Internets and found that it is indeed, shopped, from a picture of Stan either feeding Death of Superman or One More Day into a shredder. (Both looked pretty close and unshopped.)

Yeah, you could do al that fancy stuff, or you could notice that they shopped over part of his index finger. (Not that I picked out it was shopped right away. No reason to not believe it was real.)

For one, it was actually quite a good issue in my opinion, and for another, there was a thread on this when the issue actually came out last month

HERE

also, Stan Lee answered letters in the back of the issue, so I'm fairly sure that he's at least okay with it.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

I don't see anything wrong with the change. It won't be permanent (nothing in comics ever is, and the writers love nothing more than the status quo), and the story takes off in a new direction for a while.

The outrage over this is really kinda stupid given all the dumb gak that's happened to Spidy over the years. This is nothing.

Ah, I had foolishly searched for Spiderman #700 and got nothing.

AS I said before, I have not personally read Spiderman for a long time, but got a good lol out of the pic of Stan feeding it into a shredder. Now if only I could build myself a time machine and kill Joe Queseda before One More Day...

People fear change.

I still remember laughing at all the outrage when Azrael took over for Batman... About halfway through the Nightfall run, there was a comment from the editor of the time in one of the issues that for years people had been asking for a darker Batman... but when it was given to them, everyone complained.

I think the problem was that they asked for 'darker' not the Punisher in a Batman outfit. It's sort of like ordering a martini and having them smash a bottle of vodka over your head.

The editors could have been smart about it and eased into the whole thing, but decided to jump directly into the deep end with concrete loafers on. Same thing with the New 52 versions of quite a few characters. They seem to be struggling with the idea that 'change' is ok, 'radical overhauls over a short time period' are not. Never mind how they absolutely gak on some books entirely.

True. Though the Knightfall Arc is widely considered one of the better storylines. I'm partial to No Man's Land myself.

No wargames these days, more DM/Painting.

Probably because when I made the other thread, I entitled it "RIP Peter Parker".

These are the only two graphic novel collections for Batman that I have, and both are great. The death at the end of NML was kind of surprising (to me), but I won't spoil it. It's a damn fine read.

York/London(for weekends) oh for the glory of the british rail industry

This will just be another 'big change' event like in most of the large titles. Marvel does this alot less than DC (52). But just like parker revealing his identity (civil war), gaining wrist spikes (the other) they were all short lived plot devices that were quickly 'fixed'. Most likely peter parker with be returned soon, just look at Steve Rogers.

It is now sure. At the time, a depressing number of people thought the 'new' Batman would be permanent, and there are still people who claim that it was supposed to be, but that DC just changed their minds due to the strong 'backlash' from fans.

Given how well the storyline wove through all of the different Bat-titles, if they were re-writing it on the fly they did a darn good job of it...

No Man's Land was well after I had stopped buying comics, but I went and hunted it down after picking up a hardcover of the novelisation on a cheapie table. Very cool story arc.

Yeah, to give a time scale on how quickly he will return (based on info from Superior Spider-Man #1)
Spoiler:
At the end of the issue, Peter Parker turns up as some kind of force ghost type thing to stop Doc Ock killing Captain Boomerang, and vows to return, so if you don't count that as him returning, then it really won't be very long.
