Dave, a friend of mine from work imported a chopped 50 Mercury hot rod for 50 grand and re painted it mat black with white wall tyres and red and moon centres on the rims, it sat on the ground with the bags out and was barely above the tarmac when cruisin' :-) man he looked the gak when he drove it! he is 6'3 about 125 kilo into the Rockabilly scene covered in appropriate tats and is a state kickboxer! and the car was just perfect! something we've never seen in these parts before and just about everyone knew it :-)

That really fits the part Dave, what colour did you use for the colour on the car in the end then ? is that a sponge effect for the rust ?

Dam fine job mate really look great, but it looks a little lonely maybe a base with a little scenery to aid it

That's as usual some mighty fine work with the car dave! the colour is cool and you just seem to have a knack for weathering that makes things look more real than others! I honestly would love to spend a week with you just learning the tricks and seeing first hand the processes you go through when building, perhaps you can write an e-book for us? :-)

i'll see if i can scrounge up a pic or 3 of that Merc for you!

and a little ot but in my thread you mentioned choc chip camo, I googled for tanks schemes but it doesn't have any? should i just use the striped and no bone on the tanks?

Thanks Rogue! Appreciate it man!
@Vik You like that little touch then?

@LDD- I used Vallejo UK Mediterranean Blue, and then UK Azure as a highlight (all RLM military colors believe it or not). I'll need to take better pics, because it looks much bluer this morning now that it is dry. As you can see it was first painted entirely in aged rust, then there are MANY light coats going on there built up in light layers. I tried to leave the rust colors around the panel lines, but I added more a-la pre-shading technique (like an airplane model). ANd yes I used GW Rhinox Hide with a sponge for the big chips. I could work that rust some more
It's hard to tell, but I painted tiny strips chrome, then added them to the car as trim and then weathered and rusted them as well. Chrome trim gets an especially grungy, pitted look when it rusts through the chrome, and that's what I was shooting for.

Nice technique and effective so light spray on to the rust section building up gently, did you thin the paint down or just reduced the flow rate ? sorry to be a pain but I can use this technique for a couple of things

I thought you had added some extra strips to the side panels, I gather you sprayed plastic half round strips chrome then.

It looks great any way plus the colour looks perfect for the type of car, I think I need to get them as they would be perfect for my gang cars project

Thanks guys!

@LDD- I was using the Renegade Krome with the small needle for the smallest possible consistent pattern, so yeah, I thinned it probably 25%- just a few drops of each in the color cup and gave it a swirl it just takes a bit of fiddling with the pressure and needle limiter to get the right dot.
No, they are just little flat strips that come with the Evergreen metal roofing sheets (what I used for the diorama wainscotting)

I thought you might have thinned the paint slightly as it would help with the transparency, what size needle are you suing again ?

Thin strips I thought they might have been half rounds works great anyway

2# details...

and i vote against a new fallout related thread... be honest... we love it when you mix up the themes in your thread... makes everything way more lightheartedly and entertaining...^^

Cheers dave

I've been wondering about the possibility of doing more than 1 thread, for different projects also. Different threads means you will get whats advertised in the title, but it will be updated less frequently as the random stuff will go in a different thread.

I think for your thread dave its better to stay with 1 because of the community that lives in it

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Like KrautScientist has 2 threads running (that i know of) so if you want to see world eaters you don't have to wade through info and pics on the inquisitor stuff or vice versa but they dont get updated as often and you have to check 2 threads to see his stuff.

I dunno whats better
