I love how you can just post multiple updates a night while you are churning out models at an equally astounding pace without breaking a sweat. What's your secret? Is it an organised workbench? Caffeine? An IV drip full of awesomeness?

Haha I dunno, I just wanted to start AND finish something
Today I was fueled by chicken wings and college football
Now the next building needs to be a bit bigger....

For quick updates, that's photobucket, the dakka uploads take longer. I usually only upload finished pics to Dakka.

Organized?

I thought the spray outer building looked okay, but then when you put the mortar material on, it really just stood out. That is amazing work, Dave.

Wow that looks beautiful dave. I feel like you 3d printed it right out of Fallout. Great job on this. If you make enough you could create an awesome Fo3 landscape board.

Wow... I think I want to have some babies from you now Dave! The mortar effect you created is stunnig... I literally stood gawping looking at these pictures. And as I was then about to recover from that sweet shock, you did that stunt with the tape... An as shaso said, that's rollin with the punches... I think awesome doesn't cut it any more. I truly have the deepest respect for your talent and your eye for making stuff look like the real work looks... Even if it is stuff from a game world

Sounds like your fuel is having fun! It's certainly not organised but who of us are?!

I think you should tackle some Infinity terrain next Dave, you know you want to! And if you do I promise I'll take a night to start putting together the terrain catalogue in the sub forum.

Thanks Val! I'd read about using drywall mud for mortar from a model railroad article (about how to show mortar lines in HO and N scale- very tiny) before, but never tried it. The idea to use it on the walls was just because I didn't want a sandy/concrete texture and I didn't want to use GW texture paints or mix my own with sand.

Thanks Casey! Infinity terrain is always on my mind. I just need to avoid a too-clean-looking anime style. I often look at the miniature photos in the books, love the terrain in there, even if it's generic. Also I need to paint at least one of my Ariadna for photos!

Heh....I lightly cut my finger, but no blood

I was looking at Grayditch, and have determined that I need to go back to the 2" sidewalk slabs like I first used on the Corvega Bilboard

oh yes.....you're thinking what I'm thinking....

Very cool, I'd love to see a few set ups with your other similarly themed scenery as well - the billboard and the factory etc. I bet you can make a pretty awesome post-apocalyptic board now. (Maybe with a post-apocalyptic hobbit house too).

Mindblowing, Dave!

Mindblowing Dave!
You are in my Olympus of terrain builders.
Still, you know me as a perfectionist, so it would be unlike me to withhold critique. Assuming the shown version is final, there are two things I think you could have done better:
The facade, great cement effect, but no weathering? Slap some pigments/washes/filters on that bitch.
The inside walls, what a happy accident (Bob would approve), but I'd go back in there and make the revealed layer a little dirtier. Again, some pigments or washes.

Well, it gets a bit more difficult from here on out. I have lots to think about and plan before going too crazy.

See the above in-game screenshot- because 2" slabs are what I first did on the Corvega Bilboard and are more game-accurate (and requires less cutting) Springsteen? I dunno, I avoid his music whenever possible, but even on Satellite radio, he has his own channel, and they still play him on every other channel too. One day he came on the Classic Vinyl channel, Ladygeek kept changing the channel and he was on every station!

Thanks Big B!
Weathering will wait until the group is done, to make their different brick colors blend better together, but yes, I see what you mean. I have to be careful with washes now, because they will darken the mortar lines. I don't want too much, whereas brown brick mortar tends to be darker in color from my research. I also see what you mean about the scratches. I'll see how the other building walls look and probably add that with the weathering.

Simply astounding.

Greatly accomplished vintage look, both in the outside brickwork, and the interior as well.

And that Pulowski Preservation Shelter suggestion looks sound, the OCCUPIED sign doesn't seem like something to easily pass up on...

Vallejo has a wash that would work for keeping the mortar as it should be, and it may lighten the bricks a bit, but dust does blow everywhere
