Oh hell no Vik! With the window closed (above our heads) you can still feel the cold even with the electric mattress pad on and piled high with blankets. When it's that cold, the double-paned glass in the windows just conducts the cold.
Not much to show, just working the woodgrain with india ink
Still needs highlights

nifty already...
it is because you live in wooden homes...we life in good steady stone houses...that once these are warm stay longer warm...tho if cold...stay longer cold too...
my wife on Monday returned to work....with no functioning heating system at work... the lil toddlers of her group at the kindergarden are all still crawling on the floor...at streetlevel... so no fun when the heat is down...and thus they had them play inside with woollen hats and ski pants still on... if I had been the boss of said facility... then I would have sent the kids back home...you are the one that´s guilty for getting the kids sick due to this cold...

Nah, a Doublewide is not made as well in my opinion as a actual foundation based house. is flimsier, and more likely to go up faster than a regular home in the event of fires.

Good job on the wood grain. I think we saw this from you before on the Submarine model, though. And then wasn't it a completely flat surface that you had to paint woodgrain onto?

Yeah Max, the SeaView I gave a 60's wood paneling vibe to it,
But my best woodgrain was the 1/35 Gangster diorama furniture
Both flat surfaces, in many ways much easier to do than something with a texture like the cart.

Yeah record lows here, record highs on your side of the planet Damo!
@Vik- the scale of the SeaView is 1/128- Max was right
@Weets- Why Thank you! On the SeaView- I don't remember! It was a mix of different colors for the scale, but for the 1/35 furniture, I mostly used straight Brown India Ink (Dr. PH Martins "Bombay" brand) in several layers of streaks with a really tiny brush

thanks for that piece of information dave...
and nerdy...
also...got a question... i think i´ve built myself into a corner...the ribs of the roof of my cabin are 0.69 inches appart... how big length and width should one single shigle be? i am currently really without an idea how i should cover the roof....last option currogated iron is still available but only as the very last option...
i ask this here as you still get way more traffic and even tho you are yourself one of the judges i am asking you as a proven able shingler of scalemodel houses^^
thanks in advance...vik

I'd cover them with flat card first Vik...then make your shingles, maybe 5x10mm. Ribs like that would normally be very close together. Take a look at this cutaway pic
Modern wooden houses have more (gable) rafters closer together for the ease of carrying up and nailing smaller, more managable sheathing boards. For a model though, you can get away with a solid piece of sheathing since it will be covered by shingles and won't be seen.
Here I used stir sticks just because they were pre-cut already at the right length
Here I used pinking shears to cut strips of shingles and staggered them (I printed the pattern on card and used it for sheathing and to roughly align the rows)
For a rougher (and more proper Bree look) here I cut what seemed like millions of individual shingles and staggered them up and down

i think i need to do that flat card step too... there is only so much RL housebuilding you can transfer to this scale...
and that size of the shingles is probably way smaller than i would have tried...therefore i think instantly qualifes as the right size... ...i will do this exactly that way!
thanks mate!

thanks for these!

oh... brick work you see in berlin quite often... even though the war has ruined many houses to the ground there is a fair amount still standing from around a hundred years and even older buildings...a miracle really...
but wooden roofed ones... i can´t recall one at all... i think these you get more commonly in sweden than in germany... we have the burnt loam tiles you porbably see everywhere on the globe...sometimes really artful tho... my father in law told me these were called beavertails...because of the shape...

I read that some construction/excavation there in Germany just dug up an unexploded bomb from WW2 and it killed the construction driver. That was a sad story. If we could spend half of the money on life as we do on death, imagine what we could all have!
Occasionally, you see clay roof tiles, but most of the clay around here got cooked into brick. Asphalt was apparently cheaper, I dunno.
