Subject: Dealing with Mephiston as Orks.

I've been playing 2000 point games against my friend who plays Blood Angels. I can deal with the majority of his army, but Mephiston will walk all over me.
I'm currently playing with 2 squads of 15 lootas, 2 squads of 30 shoota boyz, 3 dakkajets, and a bikernob squad. Nothing in my army can bring down Mephiston. Even 60 boyz shooting fails to make any significant number of wounds stick. When he gets into combat, he challenges my nob, and removes my power klaw from kombat. Currently, my only chance is to assault him with 2 squads, and get one of the power klaws into combat. Even then, I can only reliably put two wounds on him.
What can I bring to bear to deal reliable damage to Mephiston?

Get a battlewagon with 18 shootaboyz + Powerclawnob and Mega-armour Warboss. Disembark and move/deploy the Nob and warboss to the back. With fleet (waaaagh) you can reroll the assault distance and this way you can adjust your assault range. make sure the Nob and warboss doesnt get engaged in combat and no challenge may be issued, but make sure the will be engaged when the move 3 inch in their Initiative 1 phase. This way you can deny a challenge and hit with 9/10 powerclaw attacks first assault phase. It will only cost you about 4 ork shootaboyz. Next phase you can deny the challenge and let the Nob/shootaboyz finish it off.
Does mephiston hit with ap3 forceweapon? If so, you can accept the challenge with your warboss and reroll your 2+ armoursave for every 5 shootaboyz in the unit.

Or have the nob decline, retire to the back and let the warboss slap him about alongside the boys.

That is incorrect. You cannot "have a character decline." You decline a challenge as a whole, and the opponent chooses which character cannot participate in the subsequent battle.
You must accept the challenge with your nob to ensure your warboss can fight along the boyz. This sacrifice is the cost you pay for avoiding character-character combat.

Quite correct. If you decline, your opponent chooses who will not participate. If you accept, you choose who will participate in the challenge.

I had a similar problem when I first ran into Mephiston. This thread was all about it, although it had more of a focus on whether or not nobs were really necessary anymore.

Turns out, a 20 strong shoota boy mob will tarpit him for a REALLY long time. I kept him tied up almost the entire game. If he hadn't had biomancy and kept using the ability that made him T7-9, I would've killed him easy.
So yeah, take a mob you don't care about, and throw them at him. Decline the challenges, and laugh as he can only kill a few boyz a turn.

Killed him myself with a group of 20 shoota boyz holding back at some barricades in the terrain, had lootas and other stuff to shoot at him untill he came close enough... when he reached into CC he had 1 health left, he's not a big deal when you got boomguns in the back to take care of the assault marines he's behind

Throw Gaz at him and see if he can crawl out of a pile of rubble after the Blood Rage takes hold of him. Even at T9 Gaz will wound him on a 3+ & Mephie doesn't have any Invo either. If you attach Gaz or even a Mega Armour Boss to a big unit of Boyz you can do the Re-roll thing as mentioned above.

Doesn't Old Zogwarts only target independent characters? And Mephiston is not an independent character, so I'm not sure if Zogwarts would work against him.
