OK

I want to add some fliers in my army (or armies). I play CSM and Orks. I have no problem with allying them a lot, as they're a great combo (the loota-go-to-ground tactic gets out S7 better than havocs). My only problem is I can't decide which fliers to buy. I would like to buy 2, and one of each is an option, but I don't like proxying too much. I'm just trying to figure out if one just completely outclasses the other. A 50 point difference is a lot...
What's all your opinions?

The Heldrake, easy. It just got a FAQ update, so its' weapon is now Turret mounted. Vector Strikes also ignore cover.

It's also got the highest surviveability of any flier right now, with AV12, a 5++, and IWND.

You can't go wrong with a pair of Heldrakes, equipped with Baleflamers.

Well the Heldrake excels at killing MEQ with its flamer, but the Dakkajet is better at taking out light vehicles and infantry, so you can't say one is better than the other, they are better at different things.

Strength 7 AP3 Vector Strikes that hit side armor and ignore cover, are excellent for taking out light-medium vehicles, and infantry. The Heldrake can also hit two targets, one with it's Vector Strike, and one with the Baleflamer or Hades Autocannon. The Heldrake is just the significantly better choice here.

Nuking one AV12 or less target isn't all that hot for the price tag.

And the Dakka Jet can't reroll all failed To Pen/Wound rolls once a game, recover hullpoints, have an invulnerable save, hit two targets in the same turn, etc etc.

The Dakka jet, is not a *Bad* Vehicle, but the fact is, the Heldrake is just plain superior to it.

They do different things. I have both and love both. Two dakkajets still functioning during a Waagh is just brutal. Add in a Warp 'ed wierd boy and its not unlikely to get 3 Waaghs a game.

Dakkajets are awesome if you plan ahead just a little. Heldrakes are awesome all the time, but I just don't see one as superior to the other if your playing to your strengths.

Dakkajets are fun. There's nothing quite like rolling entire handfuls of dice at the same time, even if you only hit a few of them.

Heldrakes are powerful. That's all there is to say.

Holy crap I totally missed the last line of that vector strike FAQ change that eliminated cover saves! Nice.

Dakkajet is good and cheap, while the latest FAQs made the already great Heldrake essentially over the top.

Where do you see ap3? I thought vector was ap- and the bale lamer was ap3.

Edit nm I'm stupid I found it.

The Heldrake is just plain superior. The Apex Predator of the skies.

Dakkajet-

pros-9 Str 6 AP 4 BS 3 (unless shooting a Flier, FMC or jet or Jump Unit). Supersonic. 18 shots once per game.
Cons- AV 10/10/10

Heldrake
Pros- Av 12/12/10, Bs 3, 2+ to ignore Shaken/Stunned, 5++, 5+ regeneration, Daemonforge, Str 7 Vector Strike, Turret weapon, Baleflamer, Hades Autocannon, Hover Mode, target two units a turn
Cons- Nothing.

On moon miranda.

As a Chaos player, the Heldrake is stupid good after the FAQ disallowing cover from Vector strikes and making their weapon Turret mounted, on top of their other great abilities. It's really hard to see where one can go wrong with this thing.

i dont see how you can compare them...

Yea the dakkajet has way more shots than the heldrake but what the heldrake has hits HAAAARD and its much harder to take out. My dakkajets die the instant anything with normal BS tries to fire at them or more than 20 dice are thrown at them because theyre AV10 so just about anything can pen them. Lock velocity a dakkajet and you can basically ignore it the rest of the game since it can only fire forward

The Heldrake is amazing at sweeping across the table and clearing just about any troop from an objective. That's a huge bonus in most games.

I'm expecting an Imperial Knights supplement dedicated to GW's loyalist apologetics. Codex: White Knights "In the grim dark future, everything is fine."

"The argument is that we have to do this or we will, bit by bit,
lose everything that we hold dear, everything that keeps the business going. Our crops will wither, our children will die piteous
deaths and the sun will be swept from the sky."

The dakka jet is pretty good, but the truth is that the Helldrake is probably the second best flier outside of Forge World options (the Vendetta is still better).

At least the dakkajet is cheap you can almost buy 2 for the cost of a heldrake.

That's not a bonus. That's why you take it.

When I see a heldrake, I plough it with as much firepower as is needed to take it down. Dakka jets are not that high on my target priority. They don't take away my cover save.
