Season ends next week right? only 2 or 3 more games for the Sens, I believe it's impossible for them to drop out of playoff contention

Season was supposed to end Saturday, but it's Sunday now so the Sens and Bruins can get their delayed game in.

Wing's won! That's actually good news for the Blues.

Looks like the Wings are shaping up to make sure the Blackhawks get the Presidents Trophy curse.

That's my hope.

I feel more comfortable the Blues taking on the Wings than the Blackhawks...

Unless Zetterberg and Datsyuk starts channeling Yzerman... then gimmie the 'Hawks.

The Mule seems to have woken up as well. I'd be worried about him to, if he wasn't to seriously injured last night. Jury is still out on that one it seems.

Yeah... if he gets going... I wouldn't bet against the Wings. They are the one team (and maybe LA) that I'd be leery of since they've historically been able the "flip that switch".

Karlsson will be back on the ice tonight. Hopefully that'll help the Senators shut the Cap's down, and lock their spot in.

And it did

Jakob Silfverberg got a goal in the first, game was that way until the third when the Caps got 1 past Anderson, and then Gonchar slapped one into the net for the win in OT.

Karlsson was in on both of those goals

We dished it up pretty hard to Nashville last night, but unfortuntely, Columbus did the same to Dallas, so Detroit has gotta get a point out of Dallas on Satuday. Can't count on the Pred's beating Columbus.

I hate that it's coming down to the last game.

They are in contention. 9th place, 1 point out of 8th.

I'd be glad for that. If they make it into the play offs, that means Detroit didn't.

Technically Minnesota could be drummed out, but they've have to lose back to back against the two worst teams in the leagues. Not likely going to happen.

Man I hope the Wings get in (did I just say that?).

Wings vs Hawks in the first round is an epic series.

I'm just waiting to see what the officiating devolves into. Its been wildly inconsistent all year, and now its "playoff hockey"; as if that should alter how you call a game.

Yeah, TV commentators were talking about how the Ref's just need to lighten up last night. There was something like 6 penalties called in the first period of the game between Detroit and Nashville. This is play-off hockey. It's gonna be ugly. Let it go.

Yeah, there have been some weird calls throughout the season. Though the video game version of me (as a hockey player) would probably be thrown out, the video game refs don't care, I've laid guys out, started fights, just been a generally vengeful and vindictive player, and I never get called, except for the occasional offsides, and boarding...

Why should playoff hockey be called differently from regular season hockey?

I mean, I understand that the regular season ends once the playoffs begin. But why should a regular season even exist if the officiating fundamentally changes at that point?

This, of course, ignores fan expectations and the need to accrue ratings.

Because play-off hockey is more intense then regular season. Players get more heated. If the refs don't lighten up on a few things, then there will be constant stops in play, momentum will be continually affected, and the overall game itself will have a negative downturn. Doing all of that just to nail a guy for a second of holding is a little silly. The play offs have always been historically looser on the officiating. I for one hope the ref's remember that this year.

But the players will learn that those things aren't tolerated. It is, as an old coach of mine used to say, a "teaching opportunity"; especially given that its an asterisk season.

Well, provided the NHL can actually decide what it wants to teach. As the last 20 years have shown, there has been much waffling.

I hope they remember they've been calling de facto playoff hockey for most of the year.

Can't wait for the play offs to actual start so we can start the fine Canuckistani tradition of schisse talking each other's teams. Remember: There can be only one.

Good luck! You have to get at least 1 pt...right?

Blues are playing the 'Hawks for first round home-ice advantage... which, should be doable as I think we're playing their AHL team.

1 point will assure it. A loss by Columbus, or Minnesota in regulation, will as well.

And intense game so far. Couple heart stopping moments.

Keeping my eye on the Columbus game as well. Not pleased that Nashville started Mason. Would have much preferred that Rinne had been in the net tonight.
