We'll have to agree to disagree there as well. I really did like the slightly rag tag, dwarf biker look of the original RT-era squats. So pissed off I sold the ones I had as part of the Imperial Guard Army I sold (which I'm also pissed about) when I was 16 or so.
Funnily enough, I think the style of the Forge Fathers are probably pretty close to what GW would do if they were ever to release Squats again 5th/6th edition onwards.
Don't get me wrong, I love the old Squat models, but it's in a more twee, nostalgic kind of way - they were made in the 80's, they reflect the design aesthetics and stylings of that time. You have to look at the marines, eldar, IG (anything else from that time) and compare what those styles are like these days to see the level of transformation that has taken place.
Yes of course these things are subjective, but I think if the Squats were re-released these days (in a similar form) the internet criticism would make the stuff levelled at the Storm Raven/Centurions sound like rave reviews by comparison..

Well, from the teaser images in the 2nd Ed 40k rulebooks we saw that they were going to be moving in a much more "fantasy dwarves in space" direction. Which probably would have still been decently executed - and while your pouts on how the other ranges have moved on since then is well taken, these still remains something decently unique and distinctive about the original squat range (before even the RT-era plastics that made them simply into short IG.)
After all, finding a unique niche is what making a "new" army is all about, so dwarf bikers who tackle mechanical problems with mechanical skills rather than religious mumbo-jumbo worked in the context of 40k - for me at least. The (non-plastic) Forge fathers are decent enough in their own right, but just aren't on the same level as the original squats...
As we hunker down after another day hard at work getting the Deadzone Kickstarter ship shape, some of you may have noticed that pre-orders have gone live from our retailers for Deadzone with a late November shipping date. Well, that's because we're going to be delivering the first Deadzone Kickstarter Shipment in November too!

I've managed to avoid any of the previous Mantic clusterfeths, so my view of the company is entirely that of a satisfied customer (who loved their big ol' random box o' sprues deal, their fantastic undead, and his over 100 Corporation soldiers). If they deliver some of the Kickstarter stuff that early, they may just be one of my favourite companies ever, and certainly in the top three favourite KS companies - fingers crossed on casting quality!

Shows off Mantic's best model ranges, and makes the overall set much better value for money since I can see myself making both Orc and Undead armies because the minis are:
a) Gorgeous and
b) Soooo cheap. They're running a sale at the moment where the box is ÂŁ40 instead of ÂŁ50.. combine that with internet retailer discount (I found it at 35% off), and it ends up costing around 30p/mini, some of which is cavalry and the really nice restic wraiths. No-brainer purchase.
What discounts/sites are these? I'm keen on picking up some mantic fantasy stuff cheap cheap!

in the UK, TWG has it for GBP30. Rubbish retailer though and intl. shipping is insane.
Mantic has it for $74.99, free shipping from $75.00 (so get a single sprue of bases, or whatever!) to R.O.W. destinations. Since any discounter is probably going to have to charge about their discount in shipping, I'd estimate you'd be off cheapest just getting it from Mantic.
...Unless there's some AU discounter stocking them, who's passing on the discount to his customers.

Just to say I've ordered Mantic stuff a couple of times from Total Wargamer and received it in days - they've got a full supply of the stuff on the shelves in the actual store, for UK orders at least should be OK.
In my personal experiences, do NOT under any circumstances by from totalwargamer.
And this isn't due to their GW stock problems.
Several people, myself included, are having significant trouble getting Refunds from Totalwargamer. In so far that disputes has been opened with our credit card companies concerning it.
At least, as far as in my personal circumstances, Totalwargamer have failed to pay up 4 weeks after my refund was acknowledged.
That's not stock problems, or any other excuse they'd like to give out. In my view, that's sheer shiftiness.

Well, Mars Attacks Kickstarter is coming in a few weeks, I made a KS thread for all of the news from that over the course of the KS campaign, since I guess people following this one would prefer to hear about their Dreadball and Deadzone stuff over the next couple of months while that's running.

Squig, thanks... I have so little interest in Mars Attacks, and more importantly, yet ANOTHER new type of game from Mantic that it isn't funny.
Looking forward to getting my Dreadball Season 3 items.... Dreadball, Deadzone, and possibly Warpath (whatever happened there ) are what I want to talk about in here! And even that is Quite a lot for one thread... and one small company.

Yeah, I can't say I'm planning on going into Mars Attacks.
Unless there happens to be Jack Nicholson and Pierce Brosnan figures. Then I'll be sorely tempted.
On the other hand, I can't blame mantic for going for it. From what I heard, they were basically offered the license, providing the kickstarter pays the costs, there's really not much downside for them doing it. Just like Loka, but with a brand name attached.

I think the paper mat might be gone completely. I watched a video interview with Ronnie somewhere on Youtube (Terrainaholic's channel I think.) from GenCon and he stated something about raising enough funds to put the upgraded mats into the retail set.... *goes to find video* Here we go.
It's somewhere in this little interview I think. Ronnie's interview starts at 09:13 for those who want to skip ahead to it.

I've had a quick gander over the pdf. It seems good, though I'm inwardly cringing at finding how difficult the teratons will be. I was looking forward to them but I'm now really not sure I fit their playstyle. They've got the difficulty of goblin jacks scoring, combined with the ease of dwarfs falling over.
That might be because I've not really read the teleporting rules yet.

Everytime they get slammed in the rear they automatically teleport 1-4 hexes so there safe on that account, just try not to dash with them! (They can't when teleporting though). There going to suffer very heavily with no coaching dice or Cards though. I may give the Asterians a go (albeit with a head swap though!).
I've had a quick look over the giants and they don't look to impressive to be honest though I have not looked at what there abilities do. The Jack Giants have show off so they won't be scoring much!
