el capitan over on the Mantic forums posted some extreme closeup zombie pics:

I'm going to ask him to take a few more pics but have his camera macro focus on the heads on the last two instead of the torso/etc.

I'm super excited now and I'll have to pull out some extra Corporation and KoW zombies out so's I can make me a giant horde of space zeds.

Those sci-fi zombies look great! I already have tons of the 'Strain' miniatures from Sedition Wars (which look a little similar in concept, albeit a bit more 'manga' in style) but am sure these will be a pretty good option for those who don't want to have to convert their own from other sources.

Out of interest, does anyone know if there are any places taking pre-orders for the Forge Father starter pack for Deadzone? Seen it on Mantic's own site but would like to buy it from a trader if possible.

The Undead sprues from Renendra are still a notch better IMHO. It is, of course, a subjective issue though. One thing we all know is that these knock the Basileans into a cocked hat. I still have some reservations about the hard plastic Enforcers, but am pleased that Mantic have been exercising a large degree of quality control over them.

Woah, slipped that one in, there are 3 new Marauder commando profiles. One with a claw and pistol, kind of meh but he's there... an HMG with a rapid fire weight of fire gun, and a commando specialist with ripper talons... brawler and ap2 with fight 4+ at six points... Suck it commando sarge with the knives!

Time to look over the AI cards, they updated the backer wargamevault list with them.

Firestorm are

8.99(with 10% off) for the set of the plastic forge guard, if I hadn't already spent. My hobby budget this month I'd be tempted to grab one of the iron ancestors.

It's a shame the chief broker is only in one of the boosters

Brawler and ap2 for 6pts, is he only 5+ fight still?

Are ripper claws the power claw things?

Regardless it's more conversion fodder for my 40k to Deadzone conversions I'm planning

I believe he was 4+ fight with a - in shoot and no ranged weapons (and no ability to carry them). He was also a 1-1 specialist instead of the more versatile commando troop profile like the other two.

Ripper claws are basically power klaws, yeah. I think he either replaced his hands or it's just that the gloves don't finesse enough to work items. Everything on the profile was from the second survey upgrade pack. Now I need to look at my list and do some thinking. I guess I can finish painting the current list and add these new profiles later.

I have the cards in front of me. Commando with Ripper Talons, 6 point, Specialist, one space.

Shoot - , Fight 4, Survive 4, Armour 1, command 1-1

Overwatch: move

Abilities: Brawler

Weapons: Ripper Talons - Range F, AP2

On a side note, I'm reading the comments on hte latest KS update and... quite a few people don't read the updates, do they?

Eesh, not enough cheese around for all that whine...

What are they actually complaining about? Getting the wave 2 metals with temp cards? Those models didn't even exist until the survey. I guess its a bit obnoxious to not have the physical cards but if the information is made available it doesn't bother me.

Yeah derp, your shipment won't have cards as we don't have painted models to put on the cards, yet. Where do they get no cards ever? Yeh most of those complaints seem ignorant or just whiney. Lame.

Reading thru the AI rules, will probably just have to print the cards and give it a try to really 'get it'.

Take your pick. A few people seem to just have taken offence to everything, with a few making up events to confirm their anger.

I always regret not adhering to my 'don't read the comments' rule.

Sometimes legitimate discussion goes on, sometimes its like that. Hard to determine which way it'll go in advance.

True enough. I appreciate the people who have legitimate complaints bringing them up sensibly, but the self-entitled vocal minority really rub up the wrong way.

Anyway, with the new Maruarder troop types I'm really excited about given them a go now. I was only a little before, but they look like beasts in CC now. Bring it on, I say.

YT, KS, Reddit, Facebook... basically any unmoderated comment section will turn otherwise nice and rational people like Grimdork into ravening beasts out for derp blood ; p We can whinge here on Dakka but the quality of the whinging is steps above! We usually include pretty good reasons why we whinge ; p

Perhaps because a forum is somewhat more facilitative for conversion than the drive by nature of places like KS comments. Love the sig, BYT, Yonan.

Anyhoo, I can't remember if anyone shared this: Ronnie speaking at Edinbrugh.

Yeah, that melee specialist is quite nasty, he'll eat enforcers all day long, but he's almost overspecialized to deal with gimpy rebs troops. The claw commando is still a troop, he trades his ability to blaze away and 2-3 cubes of range for ap1. Ap1 is usually all you need against not-enforcers, and it still makes melee vs enforcers more attractive. The only thing is he specializes out of being a versatile commando and pays a point to do it, though I wonder if the regular commandos shouldn't be at least 6 points too. HMG seems like a solid choice too, same cost as the flamer guy but better range. He should be able to enrage and run around gunning people down since it's not a deliberate weapon, kind of a similar role to the rapid fire grogan but cheaper and not as tough.

The Sorak Sword Brethren is only 5+ fight, he has unpredictable which I think has the equivalent shift in dice as brawler, so that's nice. The dueling blades are the sweet spot though, that 'good enough' (most of the time) AP1 along with Toxic means he'll be putting people down if he can survive to get to them. Probably a useful lancer for enraged grogans or teratons.

Plagued Enforcer with the experimental XW-43(V4) is the new mortar team! His single shot, deliberate gun comes with shockwave, ouch! He has mutant, and 5+ across the board with 2 armor and no tough. At only 9 points, this seems like a fairly useful unit. I mean, it's an enforcer in the plague list, with a powerful weapon, and cheaper than normal. I know he's only got 5+ everywhere, but for having the fancy gun it seems like a steal.

So the Urban Demolisher is uhh... jeebus. 14 points gets you a slow, tough vehicle(4) model with a gunshield (defender shield, +1 armor for the side it's facing) and 5+ for melee and survive. It's only real drawback is armor 1 to start. But holy crap look at the gun! Punisher: range 10, ap2, firestorm. When this bad boy triples a suppressed enforcer, he doesn't have to bother to get mean next turn, he'll already be standing in your pack-it-up section. Nasty gun, and you can totally move and shoot it. I may have to repurpose one or more of my Jotums to represent this thing.

The pulse bombard asterian combat drone is more or less a mortar, range 8 deliberate, single shot, indirect, massive frag. Ouch for bigger games.

Holy crap forgeguard bringa lot of AP2 to the table! Wow, I thought the urban demolisher was rough, a forge guard has essentially the same gun (plus a hammer and much better stat-line), and the missile launcher forge guard is just versatile as hell with his irresistible missile, ap2 weight of fire rifle, and forge hammer.

I'm really liking the Brokkrs too, they lost knockback I think, but a weight of fire pistol on a tough brawler is just... neat.

Blah enough jabbering, just excited to get my minis Gonna have to set up and document my attempts at zombie survival too

Were we supposed to get any rulebooks as part of the shipment (free upgrade)? I received no books, and I'm not sure if I was supposed to or not.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Compendium became a slip cover and the 4 books, I think you got one if you ordered over 300? May be wrong. And the hardback veteran/add-on compendium should exist too.

Cool, thanks for the heads up. Looks like I'll have my local store order the books in for me. And thanks, Grim, for the heads up on the Enforcer contents. Glad I'm not missing anything. I somehow ended up with an extra deck of the new cards though, but I've already given them away.

Also, there's a vote going for how I should paint Howlett-I'm gonna start him tomorrow, go to the "Deadzone wave 2" thread, and cast your vote on which Wolverine costume he gets.

The $300+ one, the ~$800+ one still a single hardback containing everything?

I really like the resin plague 1st gen, I'm hoping the detail comes out extremely crisp becase it's an amazing model that deserves better than the mould lines from the restic. I'm glad I got him free with my huge DZ order hehe.

Well, to be fair, Mantic aren't exactly saying "we'll send them out once they're printed" either, so it's a pretty natural assumption to make that they don't necessarily intend to send out 4300 sets of the cards separately down the line. And it is obnoxious to have a character-card-based game with no cards for the models. It's the price of the choice of the manufacturer to go with cards instead of army books, and the onus really is on them...

My first game with my mate took ages as the book is so poorly put together and really impacted on the fun stuff.

The second game was better but we fudged it and just did what made sense rather than flicking through the rules again.

Yeah, I found that, too. I've recently started compiling all skills/traits relevant for each single faction on individual A5 cards which'll hopefully save us a lot of thumbing through the rule book. I've still to add the things from the last few expansion books and will have them laminated afterwards.

Still undecided if I should do another card collecting all actions/results.
