Did Fulgrim Just Behead Ferrus?
|
Just finished assembling my Leviathan Crusader, so I just had to post a completed pic of it somewhat similar to Mark's initial pic of a Mortis stomping a light mech... You can't see it in the picture, but I went with the capacitor coolers for a more high tech appearance. The hydraulics actually move, and all of the joints move, too. The screws in the kit provide the tension that allows the joints to stay in place. However, I would recommend finding an acceptable pose for the main body of the model (legs and torso) and glue it in place, as the weight of the upper body with arms attached can be too much for the legs to withstand if they're not in a solidly balanced position. Plus, too much playing around with it (which is nearly irresistable, I've already attached both assault cannons and irritated the wife by making dakkadakka noises in her direction) makes the hydraulics pop apart and you have to realign them. But, ye gods, this kit is a masterpiece of engineering. I look forward to even more from Mark (please, please, please give me an Eisenkern tank!).

Managed to find the time to build a leg yesterday .. curious though, why have screws for some parts? Wouldn't it have been easier and a little cheaper to produce to just use glue?
I liked the handy little bonus screwdriver though

The use of screw in expanding joints let you move/pose the figure before choosing a pose and locking it with glue
so it adds a degree of flexability not possible with a loose/glued joint alone

Looks like your hip ball sockets are not deep enough... You may have then out to paint them? but they were designed to go all the way into the leg.

Started playing with the Crusader last night. I literally said to myself (in my head): "Damn, this is impressive." I put together most of one leg, and this is by far the most complex model I've assembled since my days of putting together Gundam/Japanese robot model when I lived in Japan (the more expensive/complex ones). Certainly not for the beginer. But I really have to tip my hat again to Mark for creating, it seems all by himself, a product so beautifully complex and elegant. I'm going to have to sink more time into assembly, but that time won't feel like time wasted in the way that putting together Space Marines does (TOO MANY dang parts for models that still seem incredibbly static and limited in their posing possibilities).
All that said, I've been a little confused by the screw/glue thing too. I think I'll figure it out though. Also put together one Stormtrooper, and though, like Cadians, I'm a little dismayed at the many parts that go into a single figure, at least the variety of parts makes for a very wide range of poses and customization (especially with the accessories sprue).
I hope that other won't find it unforgivably heretical for me to convert these things to fit into my CSM force. I've been collecting choice Chaos-ified vehicle parts (larger ones, ones that will scale nicely with the big bad boy) and Chaos accessories for the Stormtroopers. I'll likely put some pics up in my CSM/Chaos Daemons P&M Blog.
And I love the large base - it gives me plenty of room to put the destroyed remains of Imperial/ SM vehicles and troops. Glad I've been collecting so many vehicle parts and have enough spare Imperial bits to make a believable scene of Crusader-wrought destruction on the gloriously large scale of this fantastic model
More again when I am wowed even further as I work my way through building these beautiful models.
-C6
PS-Hey Mark, if you need/want more testimonials, I will write up a whole dang manifesto, including the words "GO OUT AND BUY THIS MODEL OR PESTER YOUR FLGS TO ORDER SOME DREAMFORGE STUFF." I want as many people as possible to get in on this, to support a great guy/designer/company, and also to drum up sales to help put DreamForge on the map, making these great products more and more vailable (to people like me!) in the future!

No worries, the easiest way to deal with that is to use a screwdriver or some such thing to spin the caps out of the leg, then inset the caps over the balls then inert the cap with ball into the leg socket. At least this is what I needed to do... If you already glued the cap into the leg them it may be too late. I noticed that the head did not have the lens assembly glued in (the small detail part near the back right side on the head) I only bring this up to make sure that if you missed it you could possibly find it before it goes out in the trash.

My big conundrum at this point is this: Whether to leave off the external armor plating from the limbs until all the mechanical bits under them are painted, or to glue the armor in place. Normally, I'd just go ahead and leave them off, but these fit so closely, and are so well fitted and flexible in how they slide and articulate over the joints WHILE MAINTAINING a close fit, that nearly nothing under them is going to be visible anyway.

Mark, question: Will the Leviathan base be used in the Iron Core game or is it just there for decorative purposes? I was thinking of making a cool scenic diorama for mine, but I don't want to permanently afix the Leviathan to the thing if its going to impact playability, y'know?

Got mine today!
missing ada, but i'll msg you about that later mark, no biggie
The models are mind blowingly great, some really, really minor things bother me, like why would you put the crusader banner on the base sprue, when you'll be using those bases on other mechs? which are really just tiny compared to how great they are.
the accessory sprue set, is ridicilous, there's literally enough pouches for dozens of guys in each one, the three robots for each seem excessive, but i'm sure I can convert them into something fun (I'm thinking extra mg42's and backpacks to turn it into a battlebot)

I am magnetizing mine and adding hull damage to underneath them so my bot can show some damage

Discount Games Store was thinking about stocking DFG kits (they thought the kits looked good too!), but might need a little convincing as they're unsure of demand I think. If anyone wants to drop them a note on their facebook page about it... ; ) DGS sends 30 orders to Australia daily they said recently - with good reason, they're really awesome for us, so ideally I'd continue getting my plastacrack fix from them with Eisenkern if possible.

If they want to see the demand, all they'll have to do is watch how quickly the Warstore sells out of their stock.

There are options, that are not settled in the rules, for things like damage, hitting, and troop movements.
By all means, let us let him finish Wave 3 and then badger him to death about the dev. forum.
