Shade, the solution is to magnetize the weapon crews so you can add or remove models to make then GW or DFG compatible. Then you have the best of both worlds

The DFG bases are larger I believe also.

You can always use a base larger than stock IMO, its only a disadvantage. The extras from heavy weapon crews will probably end up on vehicles.

There is a word for a wargamer with an empty paint bench.

They are larger, 30mm vs 25mm to be exact. I just mounted mine on these: http://www.champindustries.net/bases.html

If you're fielding them as IG, I'd imagine you're really only shooting yourself in the foot to use the DFG bases. Guardsmen aren't noted for being that awesome in CC, and if you deduct 1/2" from any charge rolls you've balanced the sole advantage out fairly well. Do coherency measurements from the models, same with blast weapons and all you're really left with is it's easier to get more enemies in BtB contact with you, which for the IG is probably not a good thing.

Not saying people will clap hands with glee and wave it on in a competitive environment, but I doubt there'd be any issues in a friendly one.

If it helps, I'm not entirely sure anymore but I think the inside of the Dreamforge base is a little over 25mm (the round edge is considerably thinner than with normal 30mm round bases) so a 40k base slots nicely into it, one can always put in some thin magnetic trips so you can go with 25mm for 40k stand in and then attach the original base underneath for 30mm fun. Only downside is that for 30mm games the mini would be a bit higher due to the 25mm base attached to it, but if you make some thinner 25mm bases that is solved aswell.

Never seen those before....definite consideration.

I'm a huge fan. The only problem is that they're only 25mm bases. You're on your own for 40mm and 60mm

Silly question, but guardsmen are supposed to be mounted on 25mm round bases (not 20mm) right? Just making sure...

Those Champ bases are indeed ace, I will likely pick them up for my troopers

WGF sells 30 25mm bases for 5 bucks as well. They are 2mm thick with no lip so it should help somewhat with the height disparity against taller bases. plus they're cheap

edit: posting about it reminded me i hadn't ordered mine yet, thanks for the reminder dakka

I love those bases. They have become my standard base for quite a few different things. Due to their height I think they mix well with different base types as well- slottas or washers.

I don't even KNOW anymore.

Damn - Dat Morti. Can't wait to get mine.

Then I'll be sad, because I didn't have the cash to get more stuff during the KS, and will have to wait to get the APCs, heavy infantry, etc.....

We'll all be waiting :-/ but if it's anything like the first wave, they should be available for sale not long after the Kickstarter pledges are delivered.

Hey, this isn't major, but I was just wondering will there will be any alternate heads for the Stormtroopers? Dont get me wrong, I like the look of them the way they are, I just love to have options, gives me just that much more ability to customize my units
like this head, for example

That head is glorious. It reminds me of Crimson Lance troopers from the first Borderlands (which is a good thing!)

I know right? I found this under Dreamforge concept art, so you would think that there's SOME chance of it coming into being.

I do like that head. From memory, I think the heavy Eisenkarn (Wave 3) troopers come with 2 head variants - one a bit Stahlhelm and the other a bit medieval. So I'd hope that more heads can be an option. Maybe mixed in on the Vehicles sprues for a few preview ones?

I've been thinking about it some more, and realized that if I didn't already have a whole heap of FW Elysians, Eisenkern STs would be my IG Air Cav.

Those are Kriegsmarine troopers, so I don't think they'll be available as helmet parts, but rather whole models.

I beg of you sarge let me lead the charge when the battle lines are drawn
Lemme at least leave a good hoof beat they'll remember loud and long

All I can add to that is that there's another reason for me to hope that the new business takes off.

I'd also like to see non-German concepts. Don't get me wrong, I like me some Krauts, but given what he did with Germans, some other cultural concepts would be great.

I think there are some concepts for the other factions throughout his Iron Core page. Unless it's gone now after his crash awhile back :(

Mark did do the Kriegsmarine in metal. I have enough to flesh out my German Drop troops for SoTR49. If only they came out in plastic... I'd certainly get more.

The render doesn't look quite as.....angry as the concept drawing. Paint/angle could make up for it.

PS if/when you show us Protectorate concepts/renders you will have a legion of fanbois knocking down your door to pledge you their eternal hearts and wallets.

Indeed, that drawing just screams asskicking....and body seemed more bulky. still cool though, and If there is ever a chance for some head swapping action, I'll do it. and I to agree with the Protectrate.

Right here. Im awaiting some tanks. I love what he did with the German APC, cant wait to see some Russian tanks.

On that note...maybe not any KV I/II or T34 copies. Everyone does those. The IS series is where its at for Soviet tanks.

Do you think you'd be happy with a tank the general size of the German APC, since it wouldn't have to carry troops? Because otherwise we are talking one huge mother...

I agree on the tanks, and on the IS series. Hey Mark, I'll give you the IP to my photomanip of a ridiculous IS-3 super-tank.
