Poor Mark.

He just got you your bday presents and you are already poking around under the Christmas tree.

Ungrateful much?

There is a word for a wargamer with an empty paint bench.

Heh heh, I saw the Mortis in person a couple months before everyone else, so yes, I'm digging under the tree.
I've gone longer without seeing something new

Soooooo any of you with your New Mortis or weapons built them yet? What do you think? Even if you have not had a chance to build anything, what are your first impressions?

I Google'd looking for pics or reviews but have not seen any... My Aussie brothers are rather tight lipped about their new toys and I have been waiting on pins and needles to see what you think.

Any resemblance of this post to written English is purely coincidental.

Well, I have the stormtroopers the heavy weapons and the crusader, and have been awed by the attention to detail of the minis so far and am likely to love the Hannies when you get around to those, all based off the stormtroopers and leviathan kits so far!

Yeah, they're still getting over the shock of having nice things before the US. That or the Aussies are all hoarders and not builders.

I'm debating if I want to put together the 15mm Crusader first or the Mortis. I'll probably be on a Leviathan building binge here shortly regardless of order I do them in.

The piles of plastic I have are ridiculous (as with many of us I imagine). I got into the hobby when I became housebound a couple years ago (yay chronic pain) which gave me the time finally, but due to that can also have trouble assembling stuff in good order. Doesn't stop me from going "ooooh shiny!!!" *yoink* as some retail therapy ; p Big part of it is that I don't want to ruin good models with poor painting skills, so while I'm learning slowly, I'm slowly getting through the lower quality/easier stuff. Just did a Dreadball team that I'm pretty happy with, though the pic sucks and it could have used more shading. One more dreadball team and then time to get onto a new project... though I'm still hesitant to do DFG stuff until I have all of them so I can plan a scheme better. Really looking forward to those Valkir and Black Widows!

Would also like to know more about the setting before I paint things, some rules and expanded setting lore would really help *hint* Mark *hint* ; p

Amusingly, a mate who loves tabletop gaming but hates assembling and painting models had a deal with someone to build his leviathan for him, but he thought it was too hard so gave up half way. I thought it was supposed to be a relatively easy model to assemble, given it's size and what not.

Also you're not wrong about the shock. I'd almost feel bad, especially given how much earlier we got it... but then, I finally got to be the first to share some pics of an unboxing ; ) re. first impressions though, as with first wave it was top notch quality sprues. Some missing instructions that I think Mark is aware of, though I haven't seen them being posted online yet? Think it was the left arm Vulcan Cannons iirc. A link to my unboxing pics in dakka gallery again if anyone missed it. Really need to get a nice fluoro light again, last one blow a month ago : /

I really can't talk; I long ago stopped measuring in units of storage smaller than "room" when it comes to shame.

I do hope the Mortis gets here soon; started building my second Crusader and it's amazing how much I forgot about how to build one. At least this time I remembered most of the pieces that go into the leg...most of them.

Hahaha, do you still have a copy of the updated instructions? iirc there was a problem somewhere.

Yep, use the PDF version on my iPad.

Biggest issue is just I'm terrible about noticing all the parts added in each step; the directions and the way my brain works just don't get along. For example, yesterday I put the thigh together before noticing I'd left off the hip joint at the top. An obvious and easily correctable error, but string enough of them together and the build takes a lot longer...

And I got mine this morning. Makes me even more ashamed that all I've done on my Leviathan is basecoat the mechanical portions of the legs and undercoat the body and arms.

I was working on magnetising the back when I had a problem with my drill bit slipping so I drilled the holes in slightly the wrong place and now have to go back and re-build so I can drill in the correct place.

Then again I noticed the other day that due to the extreme posability of the legs, there's a patch behind each knee that didn't even get undercoat - so I may just strip it all down to bare plastic and start again as I've recently gone from GW paint to Vallejo Model Air and would want the whole thing to be painted in the same stuff.

Pity he "Hobbit Hole" I live in makes modelling pretty much a "No-Go" for the winter months.

"Ask ten different scientists about the environment, population control, genetics, and you'll get ten different answers, but there's one thing every scientist on the planet agrees on. Whether it happens in a hundred years or a thousand years or a million years, eventually our Sun will grow cold and go out. When that happens, it won't just take us. It'll take Marilyn Monroe, and Lao-Tzu, and Einstein, and Morobuto, and Buddy Holly, and Aristophanes…then all of this…all of this…was for nothing. Unless we go to the stars." I could use your help with base design!

Help me choose what base style to make.

I have been working on a set of bases and base toppers that fit inside the base.
These bases will have a hollow bottom to help with uneven terrain or allow you to glue a weight into the bottom for stability, and a recessed top to allow for a flush mount of the base topper (example shown in pic). The bases and toppers will be made of injected Polystyrene (model grade plastic)

To start this project off, I will be making a single base style in 25mm and 30mm and I would love your feedback. Depending on the popularity of these bases I may make more than one style.
Please choose your favorite base styles (Rate A -E with a 1 to 5 rating, 5 being your favorite and 1 being your least favorite).

(Note: The picture is large so you will need to scroll to the right to click next and to answer the survey)

All the best!

What, cheap plastic scenic bases? That sounds like something that you could sell a lot of.
By 28mm and 30mm, did you mean 25mm and 30mm?

I went for E as my favorite.

Definitely 'E'- believe it or not I was thinking of commissioning bases like that myself. Standard slotta sides with an insert would be great.
