So...

I just had a massive moment of panic. I just JUST finished painting my Ravenwing bike squadron which had taken over a month to get to finished. It had been a bit foggy this morning, but it felt ok to me. I started using Krylon matte varnish to seal them up as the final step. After spraying them (and bringing them in immediately after spraying so they'd dry inside), I went to check on them and my six man bike squad (the two attack bikes were too big to fit on the tray, thank god, and I was planning on spraying them after) had started to turn noticably WHITE. A month's work COMPLETELY ruined in five minutes of carelessness.

I don't think I've freaked out that hard over anything in a while. Much rending of garments ensued and I pounded the wall hard enough that stuff started falling off shelves. It was entirely my own stupid fault. On second assessment it is obviously way too humid still outside for spraying. But... god. After a few minutes research on the web, since the varnish isn't cured yet, a second coat will break it down and merge it into a nice, clear covering. With a face covering (and opening the windows once complete and the models were dry to the touch), I set about quickly respraying them all in doors with the A/C running.

So far no return of the whiteness as they sit and cure/dry. But... feth me, did that leave me panicing.

Anyone else have something similar?

Yep. Too humid when spraying -> paint doesn't dry properly. The other end is too hot -> paint dries in the air causing a sandpaper like finish.

I once accidentally destroyed a squad's paint job when, instead of picking up varnish, I picked up my black spray can....yeah

This disaster can be recovered!

Spray again with gloss varnish and it will come back to transparent.

When fully dry, spray carefully with matt in good conditions.

I resprayed with the original varnish and that was sufficient to correct the issue.

I have dropped my very heavily converted Warboss on hard floors no fewer than three times...

When I was Snipping Balthazar off his DV Sprue I accidentally clipped off the neck piece that's supposed to fit into his torso so it snaps together neatly.

Thankfully it glued back together okay and snaps back fine. For a moment though I thought I was gonna have a commander with a lopsided head.

I once put a pin vice clear through my thumb. It's not quite as bad a ruining a model but it did still make me panic a little...

I don't see how that's not as bad as ruining a model.

Ruined models don't heal

The day I finished my Valkyrie, I had it out on a table at my LGS to show it off. My friend accidentally bumped the table hard enough to send the Valkyrie crashing down. In addition to a couple of minor parts coming off, one of the tail booms came loose from the fuselage. When I took it home that night, I decided that the best thing would be to use liquid super glue instead of my usual gel, so that the glue would make a better seal between the two parts. I put on a small amount of glue, wrapped the whole thing in a rubber band, and went to bed.

The next morning when I went to check on the model, I was horrified to discover that the side door was glued in a 3/4-closed position! The glue had run down the side of the fuselage and pooled in the sliding door track. I managed to work the door loose, but spent an hour and a half digging at the dried glue in the track to no avail. So now I just leave the doors open all the way, since the one side won't close completely.
