Subject: Ork Tankbustas - Buying a box

I'm looking at buying some Ork Tankbustas, and have a few questions:
1) I have never bought a box of Finecast minatures, so am cacking it on that regard! My track record with finecast isn't great. (SAG Mek/KFF Mek & Painboy) Is the quality likely to be any better/worse for a boxed set?
2) What components do they come with? I'm guessing on some sort of flimsy resin sprue? Do they come with multiple different weapons at all?
3) Anyone got any pictures of their tankbustas?
4) If they are a good set, how do they compare to metal ones?

Quality shouldn't change between boxes and blisters. I got Plague Marines, and they look fine. Even though the models themselves are supposed to have holes in the armor.
You usually get whatever weapon they're holding. Some boxes come with different weapons, like the Terminator Librarian blister, but that's it. And yeah, they usually come resin sprues.
N/A
Are you asking qualitywise? Well, in my limited experience, resin models tend to look much better compared to metal. It's easier to get detail with resin than it is with metal, I think.

Nurgle may be the only army that invites cast defects.
I agree. Metal is harder for me to paint than resin. I love my Crowe model.

Finecast is a different animal now than it initially was. I am currently building a bunch of finecast kits after giving it some time for the issues to be worked out of the process. I have not had any problems with character models or units. Those that are completely new models have sharper detail than those that might still be using modified medal casts for the time being. If you have problems with the kit you can, as usual, call GW customer service to get replacement parts for anything damaged.
They definitely flubbed the initial release of finecast and seemed to have rushed the process before working out the kinks. Things have sigificantly improved since then, though.

Go with the new guys, with the plastic and different weapons. these are some of the old metal ones (from blister packs) not much variety on weapons.

The finecast guys are the same models as the old metal ones, just instead of 2 to 3 man blisters, they're sold in a box of 5. I'd open them in the store because of this, since you can't look inside otherwise.
The real question though, is you're orks! Kitbash em! They even give you tankbusta bombs and rokkits in the regular boyz sprue.
Unless you havent been playing long, you should have tons of rokkitz and bombs to make a squad with a regular boyz box.

usually resin/metal doesnt come with options, least in my experience. I dont knouw bout the tankbustas though.
Only reason i even have 2 boxes of them in the mail is because they came as a bonus from an ebay deal.
I prefer resin over metal for the sheer fact its easier to manipulate and the paint doesnt chip off the instant you set it down prior to putting 'Ard Coat on it. However, i prefer metal in the end because resin tends to fall apart when it gets warm and its flimsy so small bitz like to break off easier.
My metal ghazzy is a rock, even his horns will NOT break off with normal handling. My resin Painboy on the other hand im nervious im gonna break that needle or his pole off every time i touch the damn thing.
EDIT: And what Moustaffa said. I dug around my bitzbox a couple days ago and found a random like 8 rokkit launchers, 10 tankbusta bombs on their own, 8 more on a hand. I know i got more in there cuz i couldnt find all the supporting arms for the rokkit launcha lol. And im still fairly new to orks.

I made my Tankbustas and Kommandos out of spare gubbinz from my bits box.
Frankly, the Tankbusta box is only worth buying for the Nob.

All very good points.
I was looking at either the finecast or Metal models, not the older metal models. So the actual pose/look are the same, just the material.
I like the idea of finecast as has been said its a nicer material to work with, I'm just a bit sceptical about the quality due to having issues with 2 of the 3 finecast models I have. I would take it back and get them to change it, but everytime I have gone in, the local GW only stocks a single box, so if there was any issues I would have to wait a few weeks for replacements.
I COULD kitbash and its deffo an option I have considered. Only issue is, I LOVE the models!
I'm thinking I would bulk out the basic 5 man squad with some normal boyz with Rokkits, and maybe try and jazz them up a bit in the process.
HAs anyone had any experience taking finecast back to a GW shop when you bought them else where? (3rd Party retailer)?
Plus, where else could I get bomb squigs from!?

Squigs? I use the squigs from the runt herders since RAW they dont need the dang thing to get the rule. Also i never need it anyway, when they get shot at they die off completely anyway. Snip off the fist, greenstuff the mane back on, clip off the straps on the mouth of the squig, bam now you got a free squig to use as an Attack Squig or throw some boomboombs in its mouth/on its back for a Bomb Squig and you also got an iron-fist for smackin' some 'umies.
EDIT: Plus, i think they look cooler with the whip anyway. Never understood why they gave us the whip option since theres no rule for it.

Just want to point out that not taking the problem minis back because you might have to wait a few weeks for replacement is really kind of silly when the option you have chosen results in replacements never. Just sayin'...
Haven't tried to take stuff back to a GW shop when purchased elsewhere, though, so can't help on that case.

lol Very true, but I am under the impression the defects of white metal are much less! I think I'm going to bite the bullet and go for the Finecast ones and if they're rubbish ask for a refund/replacements until I'm happy with the quality.
Would be interested to know their returns policy on stuff purchased via a 3rd party retailer.
--------------------------
On a side note, I have noticed my local GW has lots of the "11 Boyz" boxes and none of the "10 boyz" boxes, so may have to stock up on those as it annoys me they have removed 1 Boy!

In a rational world, a store that solely represents company A should not have a problem with someone bringing in an item for exchange of the same item that is their own product and do so willingly and happily for the customer with the customer no having a receipt or trying to explain they bought it elsewhere. This is, of course, GW so YMMV. I can't imagine they would get cranky about the swap. Also makes it clear to them what the issues really are as well. I would expect you to need a receipt if you wanted to completely return the item for a refund or such, but swapping for the same thing again should be simple.
As for the 11-10 ork boxes welcome to marketing. "Hey we can include less product in the box and charge the same amount for it saving us money!" Pretty comon practice all over retail unfortunately. If you look at your favorites from the grocery you think that it is great that the price of X and Y hasn't gone up in ages, but then you look more closely and see that you don't actually get as much in the package anymore, so the price really did go up, just not obviously.
I have to admit to being a little cranky yesterday when I checked out the new forsaken minis coming for WFB. I have a ton of customized mutant figs from the Eye of Terror releases some years ago that I am now using as cultists in various CSM armies and was excited to make some more with all the fancy different mutations in the box. That is until I saw the $50 for 10 figure price tag and about choked. Ouch! Having a hard time convincing myself to drop that much just on a box of conversion fodder pieces even at 20% from another vendor...

The wierd thing is there's like 14 bodies in the box., just that there's only 10 legs. I've been using the spare torsos for other things, but I'd be very annoyed if I wasnt able to come up with a use for them

Thats what I was hoping, its not like it was produced by any other company, they make the bloody stuff. Similar to a Samsung TV going awol and you returning it to Samsung instead of Amazon.

Ah yes, the joys of economies. The bit that got me is just that its still the same amount of sprues surely, they have literally blanked out the molds for the one set of legs!? Surely it would cost more to get the molds altered/replaced than it does for that extra piece of plastic!
MrMoustaffa wrote:The wierd thing is there's like 14 bodies in the box., just that there's only 10 legs. I've been using the spare torsos for other things, but I'd be very annoyed if I wasnt able to come up with a use for them
I haven't counted the Torso's but I know its the legs that seem to dictate the amount of "models" you get. Will be buying extra legs online to add to the "spare" torso, heads & arms I have.
