What a stand up guy. I really couldn't be happier for Adam and his successes so far with KD. He might be concerned about creating an ongoing business from all of this, but I'm not. Assuming he can work out a reliable production deal with a manufacturer, I think he'll have no shortage of customers lining up to throw money at him.

Anyone know what kind of time scale there is going to be for stuff going on general sale, as opposed to the KS shipping?

He says in the interview he may open up pre-orders (via his website) to sell through the remainder of the KS production run once he ships the KS stuff to backers (I'll guess early next year for this)

However it may never go on general sale as it seems like it will be an very expensive game

the basic box got a price estimate of around $120 by Adam, and he's added extra since then.... he may not be able to produce it cheap enough to interest distributors if they don't get their usuall 40-60 % discount

You are going to see a huge boost in changes to peoples commitments. I know I held off adding several items because I assumes it would make it to stores. Pretty sure there were others who did the same.

Maybe the base game set could be broken up into a scaled back version, and upgrade packs, to allow people to get the full experience (similar to how Super Dungeon Explore contains a minimum number of monsters, but offers monster add-on packs to allow you to customize your setup). Maybe one of the larger monsters like the phoenix, and be put in an exansion is stead of the base game and take half of each armor set with him. If you play the base game and like it, you can buy a phoenix expansion and upgrade the other armor kits too. I can't see the average board-gamer going for a single-box release of over $100, without some seriously good reviews.

I think the Kara looks just fantastic.

I never cease to be amazed how closely the sculpts end up matching the concept art. It really is impressive.

And at this point, I want a hardcover art book. You here that Mr. Poots? HARCOVER ART BOOK!!! Too much beautiful art in this universe to not have one.

It's disappointing I had to drop my pledge for this game due to other commitments. I look foreword to when the general public can buy this game and models.

I hope you'll be able to as well, but given how fast everything Kingdom Death related tends to sell out, you might be in for a struggle there.

I know that's one of the reasons why I spent so much (too much!) on this Kickstarter...

Anyone know when this pledge manager closes? With the added info that this wont be getting a wider release, I definately need to bulk up what I had initially thought I would spend... Hopefully theres another paycheck in there.

Adam has said he'll let people know when it has to close

(and that it will be a firm cut-off)

but no date has been given yet

Well I put my pledge in. Decided against ordering additional items, but went with plastic for the figures over resin. After getting the Sedition Wars plastics, have enough faith in the current state of plastic casting that the detail will be at a level acceptable to me.

Yeah, why isn't this getting a wider release? He sure as hell made enough money for it I would think.

Not that I'm all that interested personally, as I've no doubt said before this entire universe seems to be more about T&A than "horror", but still, that's kind of surprising news.

Adam's plan is for a very limited and controlled retail release he doesn't want to supply it to online discounters and it will most likely only be available from himself, CMON and one or 2 other sources that are willing to sell at full retail, his intention is maintain this as a premium product.

Who said it wasn't getting a wider release?

Adam's plans weren't finalized, and he's certainly hinted at/said he wasn't going to sell to Internet Discounters or something similar, but I imagine it will be available eventually.

You know, as 'available' as things generally are on his store at least.

Which isn't very often, or for long!

But then, maybe this Kickstarter changed all that?

And he'll be able to stock this stuff a bit more often, with higher quantities?

Anyway, that's what I was talking about - no need to panic.

Yet!

Well I'm not sure of this now. I downed my pledge due to financial reasons and was waiting for the pledge manager to 'up' it again. But if there is not going to be a distributor within the EU then quite frankly im not intrested. bloody lovely models and rules or no bloddy lovely models and rules im not buying from the US everytime I want something new for this game.

I am in the same boat, I was not exactly forthcoming with my Wife on how much I spent on this either...... Then I spent more on the Pledge Manager! Something tells me I will get some of the money back from selling off all the non game related freebies and one shots he gave us.

Usually the US-only stuff, like Reaper, finds some UK websites that will stock most of the releases.

I find it very hard to imagine that miniatures of this quality and popularity won't be travelling across the pond by the boat-load!

It's uncertain,

Adam has said he's going to get the KS stuff done (and enough extra to allow him to get better manufacturing rates which is probably an order of 8-10,000 sets) and see where things shake out

It's pretty likely that there will be some left over to sell on his webstore, but at the moment it's looking unlikely that many will get out into the wild (maybe a few to CMON, maybe a few to selected retail stores he's got a pre-existing relationship with), probably depending on how many 'extra' sets are made.

He's never been big on traditional distribution both for control reasons (he likes being hands on) and profit/value reasons (and If I read things right where his stuff is sold by others they don't get the standard distributors discount) and strongly anti 'discount' online retailers.

The pledge manager will be open through the first week of April. This is what I was just informed by Anna when I inquired how long it would be open for.

I hope this helps others out. Given the $800+ it costs to buy the game and everything that comes with it... I need to sell some of my stuff and fast! Might be ditching a biohazard set of Sedition Wars shortly for some lucky fella!

I was considering doing the same, especially if there's not going to be an eu distributor and no general release, his web store is a nightmare to get anything off of so getting any expansions to the game will be hell unless Adam shakes things up a bit, also without eu distribution I cannot see the game taking off over here tbh, which limits its playability within my group.

I can see problems with not selling to distribution channels in that his product becomes so exclusive and desirable that those that are available end up in the hands of ebay scrapers. General sellers will see the price this goes for and price accordingly. Collectors and fans, desperate to get the product, will pay those prices. Just take a look at KD model prices on ebay now. Astronomical is not the word, and those prices are for the general release stuff. I hate to see what this boardgame will go for and how high the prices will shoot.

I think I can see what he's trying to do - he's trying to protect the product value, stop "Internet Discounters" (whatever they are) and look after the fans. His comment on KS the other day just reinforces it for me, to wit:

P.S. The Ebay stuff is just pure insanity. Don't buy into it, people are just building up the hype and inflating the value of everything artificially. If you really NEED a model as a fan, just contact me and I will do what I can which is usually making arrangements for another run.

Putting aside the Fan comment and how do you know so and so is a fan debate: I get from that comment that the ebay prices horrify him. But, from his previous comments, he also wants to restrict the flow of his product to a limited amount of retailers to either prevent devaluing the product or to protect business from these Internet discounter daemons.

But restricting the supply of the product available, especially one so desirable, will lead to insane prices and the ebay scrapers will move in leading to a scenario that he wants to avoid. Genuine fans, i.e. those who want to collect, paint and/or game will loose out by having to pay large prices or wait until the next 20 minis appear on his store whereby it crashes or they sell out within the day...

Part of his desire to limit supply is down to the fact that is resin caster limits supply to him,

So in that material at least there is not a lot he can do to increase supply so as he's selling out anyway distributing elsewhere for less proffit would be foolish

(he has tried other casters, but has yet to find one who can do it so well....they'd need to produce comparable casts, at comparable costs and have the time to do so)

I terms of the plastic, I REALLY hope he manages to get it out to distribution, or at least to game stores who want to buy in, as there is a lot more flexability of supply

in terms of internet discounters I suspect what he's been worried about is he's have to supply at standard distributors rates eg 60% of retail, so he looses a big margin there,

but if they then sell at 80% of retail he will also loose a lot of sales that would otherwise go through is website (why would folk pay more) so by going into distribution he'd loose twice.

Again a major disaster for a small scale company working in resin, but potentially not such a problem for a larger scale manufacturer where volume can compensate so this may change

or one or more distributors may agree to NOT put his stuff on sale,

I know from what he/CMON have implied that their tie is due, at least in part to favorable terms they give him (higher prices ?/ No sales?)

The whole point of KD's monsters is that they're meant to be creepy/nasty in a way that doesn't involve blood, gore, or undead. The Gorm is a huge disturbing elephant-baby hybrid, and if it's disturbing to look at, the artist has done his job. Most people are jaded from the typical attempts at 'creepy' ranging from Khornate blood/gore to Nurgle disease/undead to Slaaneshi LOLtits/Im12yearsold to Tzeentchian Watisthat? KD monsters are alien and familiar.

To be honest, I don't feed creepy as much as I do just gross. It comes off as trying too hard. Very well sculpted though (as are all the models), but the baby face and super detailed genitalia and pooper are excessive.

40k daemons (aside from Nurgle) are just silly and overly grimdark hardcore.

That 'aesthetic' is pretty much in many of the "Monsters" in Kingdom Death though...
