Decided to allow myself one of the $60 expansions, but choosing which is killing me. Possibly Slenderman or Dung Beetle, but then the Lion ones look great, and the Flower Knight is a great model too...

After reading through the Lion Knight's booklet, I'd have to recommend him over the others(don't have Lion God or Slendermam though). I love his finale.

I'd recommend the gorm or spidicules if you like the look, since he'll add the most regular content (immediately available to hunt)

Without spoiling, can anyone do a quick overview of how some of these monsters are added to a campaign? It sounds like Spidicules just becomes another monster you are allowed to hunt. For the other ones, do they replace specific monsters? Or add nemesis encounters to the timeline? Or just get added as huntable monsters?

I'd sell my expansions for a hell of a lot less than those prices if someone is interested in a bulk buy of several of them.

Let me know guys. I have one of almost all of the expansions sitting here doing me no good.

The lion knight is a nemesis monster; he basically takes up residence in your settlement and forces your survivors to do his bidding every few years. Slenderman and Manhunter are also nemesis monsters, but more like the Butcher. All of these include rare gear and other rewards.

Spidicules is a straightforward one; you get a new monster to hunt, with new gear, settlement location, etc., just like the lion or pheonix.

The Dragon King is a big deal. You can add it to a regular campaign as a huntable monster, or as a special alternate campaign. Your settlement is ruled over by the dragon king, with new goals, a new end boss, and a bunch of other changes from a standard campaign.

If only they could be shipped at a reasonable price to the UK, I'd take you up on your offer.

To add to this, The Sunstalker is like the dragon king: New campaign with alternate final boss, option to add it to the base game. Also adds a new weapon type: Katana, to allow you to live out all your eastern-flavored grimdark fantasies. On the other hand, he's arguably not as impressive of a model.

The dung beetle knight and flower knight are both huntable monsters. I don't think they replace anything ,but it's suggested you don't split your efforts across too many monster types. Also fighting one knight can give you benefits when fighting other knights. The flower knight also has a campaign, but it's not much different from the standard one. The green knight armor adds an amazing set of gear... that you can only get if you gather rare resources from all 3 knights as well as the gorm.

The lonely tree is interesting, but might be the weakest one. It adds a terrain piece (the tree) and a hunt event that lets you encounter the tree before you get to the hunt. Depending on how that event goes, you can fight the tree as a nemesis monster. The tree is very large, but not even guaranteed to show up in your campaign if you add it in.

I don't know anything about the Lion God, since I don't have it (yet).

I just discovered this project and I'm just wondering... why is everything sold out? Do they have a special policy where they don't want to sell minis?

It's more that whenever something is in stock it sells out within minutes because people go insane for KD.

Sort of. Usually everything is sold in batches of 500-1000, and sells out quickly. Currently Kingdom Death is fulfilling a Kickstarter, and is selling some of the expansions for preorder to presumably help offset costs with shipping.

Usually you'll see an encore run-expect new releases around the 20th of every March, but some models(especially monsters) sell out within minutes of being posted around 12-2am.

Resin miniatures are more labour intensive they also get made in molds that degrade much quicker so the runs get limited to 500 to 1000 pieces sometimes less.

Prior to Kingdom Death : Monster, the overwhelming majority of KD product was hand-cast resin, produced in batches of 500-1000 models. Once they're sold, it's time to make new masters and pour a lot more resin. By hand. This sells pretty quickly, when you consider that the KD:M backer base is considerably larger than a typical initial production run. The newest KDM product is mass production resin. Adam can knock out hundreds of copies in very little time at relatively low production cost, despite the massive development and tooling cost he has barely covered over the past 3 years. Going forward, as he sells more plastic, he should have a lot more stability.

While many product is sold out, I don't believe he's actually "sold out" on *all* of the non-expansion product. See below...

Adam wants to sell a lot of product. Right now, he has temporarily closed his regular store in order to presell expansions while he has an organized and experienced distribution line in place, running full steam. This saves him the cost of having to repack and freight pallets of unsold expansions that he would have to store and resell later. The current sale is a good one, and will provide some much-needed cash to fund future activity. I hope he manages to sell virtually all of the plastic that he produced.

After he's done with the KD:M expansion flash sale, I'm sure he'll reopen for resin and other plastic product, business as usual. This means no combining shipping for regular store + expansions. But that makes sense, because this week is taking orders to feed a completely different distribution team.

Supply and demand is a tricky thing, especially when producing and selling a higher dollar boutique game. Stock sitting on a shelf can be bad for a company, so you want to order enough to have and sell, but not too many or too few.

This is why the base game was shipped to backers, sold for a small time, was re-released again, then released again... I am assuming the expansions will go through the same process. They are being sold for a week, then taken down for a break (need some extras for backer issues, replacements, and conventions).

When he runs low I am sure he will order new production runs. However, money is king and kits will cost him money. It sounds like he has been close to breaking even with this game, so I wouldn't expect him to dump a ton of his own money into this if it isn't very profitable. He did say that he wasn't sure if his game would be released to the public after the kickstarter after all.

So, S&D, higher dollar game, kickstarter issues, profits, limited supply (can ask higher prices), etc, who knows what will happen. I am assuming eventually all the plastic kits will see a steady release from his online store, and will be supplemented with his quick cash flow resins.

Regardless, I am a happy backer and love poot's game and products. His minis (well, some can't be called minis lol) have replaced my others on my display shelf as they are just too cool, creepy, and unique. There truly is nothing else like kingdom death.

Slenderman has an interesting story hook, but I was a little disappointed that Poots didn't try to recreate having the eight pages play a role in the expansion. I do like that Slendy's teleporting was incorporated into the game.

That Frogdog, what is that thing? Why does the frog demon spawn normal looking puppies? Does it have rules for the game? It'd be cool if your survivors could gain dog companions from it.

So far, no rules and only the blurb under the product listing gives any background.
Which is...

There're also enough pinups now where a Pinups of Death 2 box is possible. But since their sprues are separate, I wonder if it's something we'll see.

Definitely hope so.

What do you mean? All of the original pinups were seperate, and then bunched together on sprues for the plastic release.

Right. But the models in the original set were individual resins and were all put together on sprues for plastic. A lot of the newer pinups are already available as individual plastics. So potentially they'd have to bundle together a bunch of loose plastic sprues for a second boxed set.

Which admittedly doesn't seem like a big issue, but something to consider all the same.

I agree a 2nd plastic pinup collection would be easy enough to pick, given that each is labeled and distinct.

Unlike Spidey's legs...

I wonder whether there will be a Knight collection (Lion, Flower, Dung Beetle) with just the models for painting.

Very curious to see what he does for BF'16.

Big new drop in the store

http://shop.kingdomdeath.com/

Compared to the great bats of the Hollow Tree, the Gryphon is a tiny and colorful monster. With its powerful wingspan, 20 men across and extremely vicious nature it will hunt these bats during cold periods and bludgeon them to death using its small body.

The corpses of these bats are taken back to the Gryphon’s nest which is crafted over decades by lesser monsters who serve as both its labor and mortar. The Gryphon eats only a portion of these large beasts as it must also feed its nest as it is very much alive.

The Gryphon’s extreme nest building anxiety manifests in a powerful musk, which the orifices in its wing pits consume, store and pressurize in a hump on its back. The monster can spew the concoction which makes humans or other lesser monsters become nest builders. A human can live out its entire life, questing to build parts of a Gryphon’s nest and never realizing the horror of what they are building

The Worshippers of the Storm measure stature in lighting scars and those with the most beautiful burn patterns lay claim to the best weapons and armor from the corpses of failed questing survivors. The homes of the wealthy are decorated in all manner of metal trophies, filling the rain drenched town with the constant angry clattering of rain hitting metal.

At the base of the sword shaped castle in the sky is a culture that worships the Storm Knight as a god. They are both crazed and opportunists. Questing survivors who perish in the castle are tossed down to the town where their bodies are scavenged. The worshipers sell the weapons of the dead to newcomers hoping to traverse the castle.

The Cleric is the result of a collaboration between Adam & Lokman, exploring some well established tropes in fantasy art. Originally intended as a small line of Generic Hero Classes, the results were so compelling and un-generic, each hero's appearance told so many exciting stories that we wanted to integrate them into the KD world but so far nothing concrete has emerged.

Once a cursed witch at the bottom of a lake, she traded her arm to god and was reborn. Her powerful magic keeps her watery body semi-frozen and corporeal so she may quest and bring light to other wretched souls across the Land. The divine scythe she carries is a reminder of her own defiance of death.

The Pinup Storm Armor is a playful interpretation of the Storm Knight

This Pinup is a playful interpretation of the Warriors of the Sun.

plus a bunch of encores & restocks

Note: less than 50 copies of KD Monster remain to buy (plus a few Adam is saving for Gencon)

Ugh, hobby freezes are not kind to Kingdom Death fans. Guess I'll wait for the encore.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I just had a thought- will Adam eventually release resin KDM expansions? The smaller ones are just Monster + 2 Survivors(if that), so if the demand is lower what would hold that back? Or has that already been discussed before?

I saw they have the Black Knight in stock. That's an interesting design. I wonder if there may have been some influence from Garo in the design. The armor has numerous canine elements about it and the gorget is very similar in appearance to the helmet designs from Garo.

I am still waiting for a Forsaker to come in stock. I'd love to have one. Even more, I'd love to have a plastic Forsaket.
