(edit) For the record, I'm not really complaining, and the cast is fine once it's cleaned up. The rest were solid as well. Just made me go 'wat' when I was going through the sprues.

Halberds for WoC came in the mail. The result:

That's pretty crazy. Next you'll get a block of resin and a picture of the part.

Not to be a downer here, but that just brushes away with your finger, right? It's like paper thin?

Looks OK to me. Flash isn't a problem - it's just a mould line at the end of the day. Doesn't seem to be any bubbling or severe warping with the parts I can see. Looks like a good cast.

Now for the obligatory warning - be careful how you store these in a case or something - physical pressure can and will bend them - Finecast is terrible for this. A hairdryer can be used to warm them so they correct though (and this shouldn't bugger up the paintwork).

Incidentally - a large 'sheet' of flash is often a good indicator that the mould filled properly - you're less likely to get nasty bubbles in certain places if you see this. No flash at all often means there wasn't much pressure to force resin out of the mould cavity - this means you may get voids.

Physical pressure can and will bend most materials used in miniature casting - Resin, Metal, Plastic and Finecast.

Flash is actually a good thing when in an excess. The flash is material that couldn't fit in the mold and squeezed out of the mold. So the more flash you have the better chance that the part will be molded all the way with few to no bubbles. If there was no flash then you might have the opposite.

Now you see that sounds pretty damn reasonable. Lets see whether GW can take that excellent logic and bollocks it up.

Yeah, I agree... that flash looks ok. I would not be upset to get that.

It is mold misalignment or heavy mold lines which are the result of uncompressed molds which cause the issues.

I am sure GW can sell you a special brush to remove those lines!

Pretty sure he meant that finecast is particularly sensitive, not that other materials didn't bend at all.

Don't moulds have in ports and out ports/risers/vents? So that excess is squeezed out through the vents and risers and NOT in between the mould itself (which would imply excess pressure or ill fitting moulds rather than proper pressure).
