So it's been a long time since I updated this army, but with the new codex out I've come back to the Sons of the Lion! According to my painting and modeling spreadsheet, I built these guys almost two years ago to this day. That being said, here's six more Ravenwing bikers ready to see some action! Every nine months or so I forget that I hate painting bikes and they find their way on my painting table again.

Cool stuff man. Really liking your style.

I've just got back into painting too after about a year absence and it's good to see some other people painting up the Sons of the Lion. Hope to see some more soon!

Thank you very much! It's a welcome change of pace to do something dark and moody after so much dayglo brightness with the 2nd ed stuff. Next up I've got some Devastators that I've almost finished assembling, and I absolutely love the new kit! I haven't put together the last two Grav-Cannons yet, but here's what I've got so far. The sergeant and grenade tossing guy are my favorites:

It took what felt like forever, but I finished up the Devastators!

This squad was fun to paint. The new kits have so many little details to work through and there's just so much to paint on them, but I really do like the look of them. I also had to use some old bits I had on hand to flesh out the squad and give it some ablative wounds. My favorite guy is actually the bolter dude on the far right in the front row; with the giant Forgeworld shoulder pad and Mk. III armor he just looks so grumpy. I also really liked doing the freehand squad markings on these guys; it was easier than I thought it was and I'm pretty pleased with the results.

So this model was actually given to me by a friend for my birthday back in 2007 or so when it was released. I'd already finished the storm shield conversion and primed the model when I read up on the rules and found out it wasn't a legal wargear combination, but I don't think I'll get a hard time for some nonfunctioning wargear. It's mostly just so he'll look good tooling around with my Deathwing Knights. Anyway, this was a quick and dirty paintjob I did over the course of a day, so while it's not my favorite it gets the job done:

Love your Dark Angels stuff dude! I'm always looking for more inspiration for my own Sons of the Lion, and I've definitely found some here! That shield may not be legal on the Libby, but it looks awesome anyway, and to me, rule of cool is always first when painting and modelling.

Just finished a Predator for these guys! This thing is made of a combination of new and rescue parts - the lascannons and turret are from beat up old kits I've had for years, while the body is new. Fun fact - I can build a Rhino hull without instructions in about 20 minutes! I could probably do it blindfolded at this point. The company transfer got a little messed up by the Micro-Sol and matte varnish, but It's not too bad. I used Baal Predator sponsons and Land Raider lascannons since the stock ones snap off too easily.

Thank you very much! Sometimes I feel like I kind of plateau so that's flattering to hear. Sometimes I wish I did my white different with this army, but I'm generally pretty happy with the results.

Thank you! It was the last part of the original DA army I'd built out, and I'm glad I could finally paint it up after a few years using a tank that now lives in my Ultramarines army

Next on the que is the Chaplain you see up top and a Deathwing Command Squad. I'd like at some point to add a Venerable Dreadnought, 3 more Black Knights, a Nephilim Jetfighter and maybe a Land Raider Redeemer to the army, but we'll see.

The Nephy is a cool model, you should get one! More Black Knights wouldn't hurt either. And if you add a Land Raider, you should magnetize it. It is really easy to do and will save you money being able to simply swap the weapons.

Oh definitely, that's just swapping some guns around which is super easy. I felt the need for more Black Knights when I was playing a game a few weeks ago and I had the three of them gunned down in no time flat. They need some bodies to counteract that squishiness!

Finished up an Interrogator Chaplain in Terminator armor for these guys! The Chaplain-y bits are from Seraphicus, the Dark Vengeance chaplain model, while the rest are from the current Deathwing kit and Dark Angels upgrade sprue. Not thrilled with his cape, but I'm happy with him overall:

Oooh that kitbash! I think I know what you mean about capes, it's still one of those things I have yet to master, I've been mainly focusing on doing bone cloth as I know the colour progression a bit better than other colours. I think your's looks fine, don't worry to much

If you're going for Black Knights then might I recommend the Legion Outrider kit from Forgeworld? I think it would add a bit of class to them. Plus, you won't need to convert them to have plasma guns on, as they come with the kit.

True! When I did the squad of Deathwing Knights for this army, I was so fed up after painting them because every dude has so many baubles and bits of bling - it was like painting 5 character models!

Those models are absolutely gorgeous, and the kind of Akira-styled motorcycles are super cool. That being said, I've already got three Black Knights from the current plastic kit and I'd want them to match. Good suggestion though!

Continuing the streak of Terminators I've been painting, it's a Terminator Command Squad! After building my Deathwing Knights, I found that the kit still had oodles of bits left over that I really wanted to use. After getting a few Terminator legs and Terminator backs (plus a kind donation back piece from Lingcodkilla) I was able to use those bits and put together a squad to escort around all the Deathwing characters I've been painting up.

And with the OG they'll be protecting:

Nice work as always. Though, I do have one piece of criticism. The white highlights on the armor are a little thick and chunky at points. On curved, smoother surfaces like the top of knee pads I would put down a color in between the bone and the white highlight to achieve a smoother effect.
