I know its a ridiculously large question but just wanted to kick about a few ideas and get some opinons.
For example, as a starting point would they write a book detailing each stage of the final fight i.e.
one book detailing the invasion of the Sol system
one on the orbital battle above Terra
one on the planets surface and or the Emperors palace
one aboard Horus' battlebarge
?

Would they perhaps focus on each of the Primarchs involved in the final battles, Sanguinius for example or perhaps Dorns defense of Terra.
Do you think we'll get a real insight into Horus during the final hours or more importantly the Emperor.

Will there be a post fight book perhaps, the Emperor being interned in the throne perhaps?

I hope we get a final trilogy, with the'Emperor vs Horus' battle in the middle of the last one. Leaving enough room before and after for all the good details. Also hope Bowden or Abnett scibbles down the ending.

They won't be finishing it for a very, very long time. The Heresy had been progressing at a slow but reasonable pace until the last year, when GW made most of the releases limited edition novellas/anthologys/new takes on events we already read about (Calth especially).

Now, they're introducing entirely new things into the story such as the Unremembered Empire, which granted does sound like an interesting concept which I'm not really against.

That being said, the ending will more or less fit the narrative we've been given already from Collected Visions/Index Astartes/so on. The Heresy series itself is loosely following these events while greatly expanding its specifics/changing its nuances. The final books will be centered on Terra and the battle between Horus and the Emperor. I imagine we'll get a lot of books focusing on individual characters experiences in these events. as well as a lot of anthologies.

As for the "last" book, it's very hard to say as even well after the Heresy series has concluded terra they can still expand upon it and add new things. Overall, I think this is something that will go on indefinetly as long as BL stays in business.

Personally I hope they expand past the fights, and give the "mop up" a book of its own.

What's the unremembered engine? Which books that in?

Well they have the option to cover the scouring, which is the 20 or so years of war following the siege of terra in which the traitor legions are driven from the imperium into the eye. During this time you also have the disappearance of a few primarchs as well as the destruction of traitor home worlds and the creation of codex astartes. So plenty to cover should they wish to.

I'm going to imagine we end up seeing three or four novels about the Battle of Terra at least, from differing perspectives. And then there will be a final one to capstone it that focuses on Horus, Dorn and Sanguinius.

Then they'll start the Scouring Series, and everyone will complain about Guilliman and the Ultramarines being too awesome, which will undoubtedly be Mat Ward's fault, even though Rick Priestley was the one who penned the Ultramarines as being the saviors of the Imperium back in the early 90s when Mat Ward was still in like junior high or elementary school.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
But I totally agree this series isn't ending any time soon.

They've gone completely off the reservation with the last few novels. So not only is the storyline not moving foward, they're creating new material to make it last longer (Duh. Sell more books!). Almost everything since A Thousand Sons has been a lateral movement in the storyline, not a forward progression.

To the point where Betrayer actually completely discards the original timeline, and made the series almost completely incompatible with all previous versions of it by inventing battles that literally could not have happened in the original timeline. That's not to say ADB and Betrayer are at fault for this. Everything in Betrayer was set up by previous books like KNF. It was just the point of no return, so to speak. Fear to Tread also may have been the first point where the old story became completely invalidated, but we won't know until we see Unremembered Empire.

I was talking about this recently. This series is no longer expanding on the original Horus Heresy story, It's officially a reboot, similar to how The Amazing Spiderman is completely incompatible with Raimi's Spiderman trilogy, even though they deal with more or less the same characters and the same events.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

I'd prefer to see a book where the Loyalists don't make the Traitors look like gak, to be honest.

I'm tired of gak like Know No Fear, where Space Marines are demoted to guardsmen who can only threaten the brave, handsome, and oh so noble heroes if they outnumber them ten to one. Though that is a problem with Abnett's writing in general.

I kinda like the way they're tying in known characters from the past 40k novels to the recent HH books. If it's a reboot hopefully it doesn't make the past books non-canon.

This will sound stupid but it won't end, it will end, but it won't end.

What I think will happen is the 'Final' Horus Heresy books that are really pivotal to the HH timeline will be based obviously around the Seige of Terra, battle between the Emperoro and Horus and then some to reflect the aftermath. This will bring to close the overall Horus Heresy itself.

However the BL will continue to make more Horus Heresy books based around other stuff that was going on, characters not covered and other events not tied to the main timeline/plot of the actual heresy itself.

So it will end probably with a fallout of the Emp vs Horus fight type book, but it won't end as more supporting material will continue to be published.

Thats my 0.02 USD, but I'm probably wrong here

I've not got a problem with that so long as they cover the important stuff first.

Which they seem to be somewhat losing sight of atm...

Yeah agree completely there, the supporting material seems to be the majority of the newer/upcoming releases, although I can't state how happy I am in words about 'Betrayer.' Although I'm a tad biased that way

It does have its benefits though, as I've been really looking forward to learning more about Captain Orar (spiritual leige lord of the Sons of Orar Chapter) and what he did that was so awesome to have a chapter named after him that's still in power 10000 years later.

I emailed BL about this, and was told that they have many things to write about, though all aspects of the Heresy will be included.

2 schools of thought on that:

1) Yay! All minor characters will be included to really fluff out the story and universe as a whole, making my hobby a more complete being as it were
2) No! All minor characters will be included to really fluff out the story and universe as a whole, meaning that I'll be fething 68 before we see any real story progression! (I'm 27 now...)

I think we need to look at ForgeWorld for a hint as to when it will be "wrapped up". They published HH:Betrayal and a single primarch model last year. It's been about 6 months. At this rate, they'll have the 18 primarchs completed in a little over 8 years... assuming a second one comes out soon, as in next month.

With that in mind you can bet that BL will keep the Heresy books going for at least that long.

They should stick to the Primarches like they did in the first few books. I'm getting a bit sick of reading story lines that have nothing to do with the main story and don't even need to read at all.

As I see it the battle of Terra could be done 3 books or less, and if they want to keep selling books then do the scouring.

Some one said earlier that GW could drag out the books for another 8 years. If that's the case don't be suprised if more and more people start putting their HH books on ebay when they give up on the story for good.

It's a good story, but a good story is no excuse for a million fekin books. If the HH goes past 35 books I'm not interested anymore and all my 40k gak goes on ebay.

It is easily going past 35 books, they will still flesh out the war on mars, the bombardment of terra, alpha legion holding back the wolves, then the actual siege of terra itself, I'd say they'll give a whole book just on the events that transpired form Horus' battlebarge...and that doesn't even include the conflicts that authors make up on the spot..slightly OT but I think the Scouring would be a cool way of following the series

I predict people leaving in their droves from the fluff and the game thanks to their patience finally wearing thin with the prolonged HH books of never ending.

35 books should have be more than enough to tell the tale at length and in detail. Instead we get ink scratches called writing that we are told makes a story. (battle for the abyss I'm looking at you) So come on GW/BL pull your finger out and get writing THE story.

Never mind my patience wearing thin, I'm more bothered about the available space in my house for the books! I've already over filled my book shelf, and have filled 3 bed side cabinets with just GW reading material!
