What do you guys think are the most most noble sacrifices in all of 40k?
Mine is where the Astral Knights crash into the World Engine and deploy their whole chapter. Knowing there was no coming back.

Three Legions of Marines stand to defend you, sire. All of us will unflinchingly place ourselves between you and the war’s desolation. We are the greatest humans ever born – we are the flame of Humanity where the rest of the galaxy is just the spark. Sanguinius is another good one.
And I'm starting to see a trend here, most of the best sacrifices take place pre- current timeline

I'll give you a modern day one: The entire 1st Company of Ultramarines is slain to a man trying to hold the line at the Polar Fortresses against wave, after wave, after wave of Tyranids. And they did

No, frontal attacks against entrenched blood pact and vrak militia till the enemy run out of ammo are what the guard does best.
Noble Horus, who sacrificed his very soul to free mankind from the carriongod's shackles.
Not really a sacrifice, he fully exspected to win. On the other hand the certain individual who stated "death is nothing compared to vindication" is my idea of what sacrifice is, something given freely and something holding great value, a life of a Primarch to send a message to a sentient corspe, thats sacrifice.
After that I like the Penal Legion, a group of criminals and traitors with every reason to hate the Imperium who nevertheless helped halt the Tyranids.

Like the great storm of the Horus Heresy, the forces of the True Gods will descend upon the Emperor's minions. The stars will tremble at their passage and the mighty armadas of the Warmaster Abaddon will bring annihilation to a hundred worlds. Know this, for these things will come to pass. |

Too many to mentione, literally every major character of forcess of order ( Imperium, Tau, Eldar ) have noble sacrifices made for billions - especially Imperium.
The most noble sacrifice in entire universe is that of the Emperor of Mankind. The men sacrifice everything, even his own son in the end, to ensure that Mankind has a fighting chance in the endtimes that will come soon.
On second place is Sanguinius, he literally gave his life so that the Imperium could have at least some kind of tomorrow - for better or worse. Automatically Appended Next Post: ZSO, SAHAAL wrote:l attacks against entrenched blood pact and vrak militia till the enemy run out of ammo are what the guard does best.
So all those Guardsmen who died holding the line against Tyranids, Orks, Dark Eldar, Necrons, Tau, Eldar and Forcess of Chaos to ensure that majority of civilian population evacuate the planet don't count?

Ollanius Pius. He stood between Horus and the injured Emperor. Between the emperor and a walking tank infused with all the horror and strength of Chaos. And he was armed with a flashlight, and wearing cardboard armour.
As Hudson would say, Pius was 'The Ultimate Badass'.

Farseer Taldeer - who held and closed the webway on Kronus; allowing her forces to retreat. Only to be captured by the Blood Ravens and tortured by Azaraiah Kyras and her soul stone stolen. She gave her life to protecting Ulthwe from the Necrons; and in the end - her life to the surviving members of her warhost so that they could escape back to the Vision of Leleath.
Honourable mention to Yriel for taking up the Spear of Twilight to save Iyanden.
And an honourable mention to the Phoenix Lord Irilyth who sacrificed himself, almost to never be reborn, to protect Craftworld Mymeara. And then the Mymearans, Corsairs and Alaitoc Eldar sacrificed a lot to get his body back.

So far the effectiveness of 10 Wraithblades with Ghost Axes:
Tanked 2 Leman Russ squadrons (including the battle cannons and the triple plasma variant); whilst also getting wailed on by everything imaginable in a Fortress of Redemption. Only to get into CC with the tanks and open them up.
2000 points worth of Necrons with Forgeworld additions. Got into CC with a court of Lords and opened them up.
Killed a GUO.
Killed Angrath the Gargantuan Bloodthirster in an Apoc game (with the help of Iranna the Spirit Seer).
Ate a Hammerhead, pathfinders and scored after 3 turns of walking towards a 2000 point Tau gunline and overwatch!
And counting............ |

The Wolves go for the throat. We go for the eyes. Then the tongue. Then the hands. Then the feet. Then we skin the crippled remains, and offer it up as an example to any still bearing witness. The wolves were warriors before they became soldiers. We were murderers first, last, and always."

Techmarines everywhere. In quite a few SM based books I've read there is always a techmarine who needs to operate something on the wrong side of the blast doors or needs to detonate something manually or some other noble sacrifice for the good of his chapter/squad. True heroes those guys.
Also Captain Idaeus (Ultramarines 4th Company) at the Battle of Thracia. Legend.
