We truly aren't free people; we are free they why am I not allowed to go into public naked and inject heroine into my eye? We are not truley free and the miltaries are just there to oppress us into a police state
Plus we were never in true danger anyways as there is no one who invades countries anymore; I mean garbage men deserve more respect as TA says, as they work hard everyday just like a Marine
*sigh* Ok, the guy from burger king isnt going into a combat zone when he signs a contract.
Let me guess, you are a young man/woman in your first year of college? Feeling as if your eye are truly opened to the reality of the world.
Let me put it this way. They are not. your eyes truly dont open until you let your self open them and learn for yourself what the world is like.
My mantra is "Respect the person, not the orginization" the military does some things i dont like. But because someone is part of it, does it make them horrible? No, it makes them nothing to me because i do not know them. I have met military men who look down on you when you complain when your job sucks, I have met military men who just sit back and wave a hand about. I got an army airborne pin from a veteran because I helped him spread his story to a younger generation. Like he said, military men are all different, I have met jerks who will be jerks, and people i respect because they are just nice people.
Unfortunatly for the OP, youtuber, and maybe even myself; I forwarded through the video and caught glimpses of what looked like some wanna-be hipster in his 20's, that I can only assume is disrespecting (or encouraging disrespet to) military personell. *right?*
#1: from the looks of this guy(?), he hasnt seen a barber shop in awhile, much less military service.
#2 Yes... you have the right to make stupid decisions, as much as a jury of your peers has right to convict you of doing said stupid things.
#3 We in the USA have ALOT more freedoms and rights than MOST other countries (notice trolls how I didnt say ALL). In some countries you would be convicted by a secret panel and "disappeared" for just suggesting this topic.... IF you could gain access to the internet.
#3a I would like to think that the members of the armed services would throw off orders to suppress the common populace and side with the civilians. All the men and women I served with would.
#4 There is a FLIPPIN REASON no countries try to invade the US. We neutralize (yes, I do mean KILL.) threats before they have the oppourtunity to attack.... most of the time.
Plus the American populace has easy access to firearms (for now) and would fight (most only when cornered, im assuming.) Of course there are those of the younger and possibly jaded mindset that would probably welcome them with open arms. (OP included in my opinion).
The OP should probably respect everyone, including the trash man.
However; never put down a serviceman for the actions he displays while under the stress of war. It is apparent you have never served in a combat situation and have no idea what it's like to know your life can end at any time hanging over you. Guys like this tend to to dumb things.
To sum up / in other words:
If you cant respect the men / women that keep this country safe, and have fought to bring you the right to spew this fecal matter, PLEASE feel free to leave.

Exalted.
The guy in the video fits the stereotype of an angry ignorant neckbeard. Getting drafted would probaby do him a load of good but of course that would harm the country so I would advise against it.

How often do you see 'the militaries' in full gear in the streets of Hometown USA?
Plus we were never in true danger anyways as there is no one who invades countries anymore
I disagree, you have invaded your fair share of countries in the last century.

The question was 'Should we respect our veterans?' Which implies that they have been deployed in warfare, since they are vets. Yes, you should respect someone who has willingly put his life on the line, because, hey, that's badass. No, you shouldn't blindly respect your veterans, because they could still be fethheads. Just like everyone else.

If someone is a veteran, or even an active service member, they deserve respect just for that.
If they are also a duche bag, that can lose them the respect. But just remember, even if someone protecting you is a duche, that doesn't change the fact they are still protecting you.

Except most modern military operations in the US have little to do with protecting itself (if at all) and more with dealing with foreign issues, the US isn't under any attack by any nation (except Canada of course).

We arn't under attack because we have the forsight to stop attacks before they even get here.
Ultimately, having shaky political situations elsewhere in the world is in our interest. If the people that hate us are unable to organize themselves to where they can attack us they will be unable to do so.
Let them hate us so long as they are unable to do anything besides hate us.
Why do they hate us? Because we are prosperous and stable. Things they can only dream of. And so their jealousy has turned to hatred instead of looking to improve themselves so they can also be prosperous.

Yeah, of course. It would be wrong to assume that people always have a logical reason for hating us.

If one of your relatives or neighbours was exploded as collateral damage during a drone strike, would your hate be illogical?
And that example is also over-simplifying things. However, I strongly suggest that you do some research on the history of US involvement in the Middle East. Start with Iran in the 1950s.
...But the "terrorists hate us because we have freedom" idea is truly asinine.
Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios
Yes, its oversimplification.
Relatives of drone casualities most likely didn't like us too much before anyway, and because of the loss of a loved one are made even more vulnerable to the ideological rabble rousing of the extremists.
Sure, we have done some not nice things to people, but I would say a drone strike is much more humane than simply carpet bombing an area. Not enough credit is given to precision weaponry reducing the casualities caused in these conflicts. Better a drone strike that kills a terrorist and 3-4 civilians than calling in an artillery bombardment that levels the city block. Or sending in a strike team and risking american lives as well as the lives of civilians.
Ultimately, I think they really do hate us for our freedoms as one of the many reasons they have. Even if we didn't do anything to them they'd still hate us. Its part of Islam to agressivly spread their religion so there would always be extremist portions that just hate people that are different and want to conquor them in the name of their religion.
If it was the only reason we wouldn't see what we do, but its a combination of things that makes them what they are.

Maybe you were one of those lucky people who managed to be in the wrong place at the wrong time... you know, when the USA's drones/etc bombed the wrong place at the wrong time as has occured all to frequently in the past. Hell, what did most villagers do in Vietnam to deserve getting Napalm dropped all over them?
But I guess that is OK since they are obviously guilty by association. Kinda...
Fortunately, it's motivated exactly zero point zero percent of US involvement...anywhere.

Ok, a little more on topic.
For why we arn't free to do whatever the hell we want to do.
This is because if we were free, what I would do is get the biggest gun I could find and when ever I needed something I would go find someone that had it and I would take it from him. Killing him if I needed to. Maybe get a bunch of my buddies together to form a marauding band.
Within a short time, everybody would be either dead, ruling over the weak, or enslaved to the strong. The world would devolve into a bunch of warbands going around beating up whoever is weaker than they are.
This is why we have laws. We give up complete freedom to have order, structure, and protection. How much we give up depends on where you are. In comparison, Americans give up very little(although people keep trying to change that)
And why on earth would you want to walk about naked shooting heroine? That kind of person is very very disturbed.

Because you're not Spider-Man, you can't see into the hearts of men, and you don't instinctively know whether that guy who lives next door with his wife and kids is a terrorist or not - or more to the point, whether someone on the opposite side of the planet thinks he's a terrorist or not. Or maybe it's because you were taking your son to school and stopped to help some journalists who had just been shot - that's enough to get you killed as an insurgent.

I've spoken to the people who have lived next door to me for the last 4 years a total of 3-5 times. They may be terrorists as far as I know. After all, they aren't white so it is more than likely as far as some people are concerned...
Seaward wrote: You don't have a general idea of your neighbors' politics? Really?
A general idea of your neighbour's politics isn't going to save you. What you need to know is whether the CIA is going to decide to blow up his house on the grounds that the guys coming around for poker night are "obviously" a terrorist cell that warrants a signature strike.

Man I knew that from the OP, and was surprised by I got to your post that it hadn't been locked yet.
Yes, military veterans deserve respect, just as teachers, firefighters, policemen, and all others do who go into poor paying jobs to try and make the country a better place when they had more lucrative opportunities available. I think our country goes a little too far with the fetishism of the armed forces, but we've gone too far in the other direction as well too and that's gone poorly for us.

I shake the hand of as many former military man or woman (very few women like to advertise their involvement). Many may not get put directly in harms way but they make that choice to commit one way or another their lives to protecting our country.
I don't think this thread is going anywhere especially useful or worthwhile.
