Oh noes crashed! I love detailed vehicles used as part of scenery though!

I may give him a big extra thick sword, like an anime-inspired version of the zwiehandler or any of those other large swords meant to fell both horse and rider and hack up pike formations. Actually their swords are already that big so I'm just planning to make a thick one. We'll see, I may just hammer time it.

Oh god, do I post some of the crazy swords I just got from Kromlech? Oh and zwiehanders... I love seeing amazing PM blogs that are up there with Gits and many other legends, they give me so many ideas.

SKAVEN!!!

There's a SKAVEN IN THE BLOG!

Thought you ought to know *faint*

There's what my multi bases turned out like. Well one of them. The other is waiting for models. The third got dropped in the toilet and even if I wanted to save it the cardboard base would have gotten soggy and allowed the plaster to crack.

So anyway, thoughts?

Not where I should be

Feel really bad coming in on the end of some conversation here, but why where your multibases in the toilet?

Skaven looking great, that base works brilliant. I have not played fantasy for years so I am completely out of touch, always loved Skaven, always fancied doing a 40k Skaven army, but I am sure that has been done by now.

Going to have to go back a few pages here, I am sure I used to come here for the amazing scenery, but now there are SM and rats and everything, need to catch up, apologuise for my abscense.

Bah you are far too busy making excellent scratch builds

Commanders gotta stay back and do the directing, leave us grunts to our trenches

I've done some random bits lately for sure I think I'm gonna have a bit of a shut-down in progress as I try to bust out some shirts for relatives in the month running up to xmas.... I'm gonna try to get my Dio finished too, not a lot of work left really, just need to get to it when I have the right mood and time.

As to the multibase in the toilet... There's a bathroom on the same side of the house as my office/hobby room, and as it has a sink (water being useful for plaster/cloth and other hobby purposes) and is warmer than the garage, I've been doing a little hobby work in there. I had the multibases drying on a rack above the toilet, and I should have known better as I've dumped at least half a dozen partial rolls of TP into the bowl from the rack. So yeah, bumped one, fell down, trashed.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Mantic have been doing space skaven for years btw

There will be more scenery eventually, I've got a lot a lot of DZ stuff left to work on as well as various bits and bobs.

Aaahh, rats!

They look good on those bases, more representative of a chittering horde than the neatly ordered ranks wfb would have them in!

I assume they're Skaven slaves from the way they're chained together..

Yep skaven slaves. Gotta have slaves!

I like multibases, I think I'll lose out on a little bit of density per base, but I'll have more models to put across more bases so the horde may actually look bigger in the end. Plus I'm making sure to fill the bases with plenty of gubbins and scenery.

.............(whack) Jobs a good 'un. Wait there's more! Aaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiieeeeeeee............- Last words of many empire citizens over the years.

Always have a fondness for the old skaven sculpts. Brother in law wants to start Mordheim, I'm leaning towards a Clan Eshin skaven warband. I really want one of the forgeworld Vermin Lords to have as a centerpiece and build an army around it.

Nice work on those slaves, but they need more bearings as I'm sure they are still groveling for food. "We fed you last week how are you still hungry!" They're like kids.

This came out really well. It looks awesome from in front.

If you are going to make more, I'd suggest that open space on the base be pushed more to the sides than the center. It would better fit the imagery of a mob.

Photoedited the image to show what I was suggesting

So smash them into the middle and leave the negative space to the sides is what you mean?

Maybe not "smash" them into the middle so much as work from the center out, but you got the idea

Added bonus of not having limbs and weapons hanging over the edge of the movement tray makes placing them base to base with other models easier.

Yeah I think I see what you mean. And not hanging over is a definite bonus, I hate that. I forgot I hate that since its been so long since I've played. I will have to do my spear units so that they're all back from tjr base edge slightly dug in behind terrain.

Back when I started playing Warhammer Fantasy years ago I got carried away making the models look cool, and then they wouldn't fit into ranks properly, or have their weapons sticking far enough out it made it impossible to place them bases to base with the enemy. Since then, I'm always conscious of models overhanging the base.

Skaven! Eewwww! I am not a huge fan of the rat folk.

I really love your base work though. I would love to do some basing where I can get that kind of feeling for my night goblin mobs. Can the rats come off the bases?

Forgive me now! Tomorrow I may no longer feel guilty...

They're all hotglued down as for KoW it doesn't matter (no individual casualty removal) and I doubt I'll find anyone to play WHFB around here.

It wouldn't be super hard to arrange them to be removable but I didn't see a point in this case.

Yeah, makes sense for KoW.

I'd need to have them removable since I play WHFB more than anything else.

He's either out to lunch, on the take, or dead... because here we have some more!

(please note that everything but the base has been done for years, I'm just sprucing up the units a little bit, I'll do touchups for relocation-based damages later on)

Second regiment of slaves, with a proper clanrat overseeing (surprisingly bold of him, being so close to the front!)

I think I've tucked them in a bit and left the negative space more to the outsides, improvement?

The rear looks a little sparse but I figure that's why it's so much easier to break a formation with a rear charge yeah?

And here we have the two units joined into a full out horde, nice and painless, and really more like I'd expect the slaves to be deployed.

In other news, I happened to mention my busted airbrush model was back on sale/in stock on amazon and my mom ordered one for me. Even let me have it early so now I can more easily bust out my gift-shirts. Woot

Hey, for minis that have sat around a bit, they still look tabletop ready for battle, so a good early effort, touching them up will make them even better as we all gain more paint skills as time goes by!

Hooray for the new airbrush! I want one and almost got one today bc there was a 60% off coupon for AC Moore plus my wife's employee discount...

I decided to wait until spring to get it though.

That leader rat guy is way too close to the front! Silly scaven leading from the back. lol

I'm replacing my older gun. I overtightened a piece and it stripped. The new part was 30 bucks at least, on sale a new gun can sometimes be found for 60-100 dollars. I may still try to fix the old gun but as it stands now I *should* have an entire airbrush's worth of spare parts except for that one I broke.

Alright officially laid off now, inbetween tedious 'looking for work' and transforming myself into a proper (if temporary) house hubby (I'm bad at cleaning... so bad...) I'm hoping to bust out some more hobbying than usual!

Woah thank guys but I'm always laid off this time of year, landscaping is seasonal and there's just nothing to do.

It's a PITA as unemployment doesn't pay as much as my in-season job, and if I get "lucky" and find a job willing to hire me for a couple of months those usually pay less (unless it's full time hours) than unemployment

But I'm used to it at this point. Just requires a bit of a readjust and some belt tightening (metaphorical, I still eat way too much during the winter, I just tend to cook instead of splurging on restaurants ).

But yeah this is nothing new so don't feel too bad

@Adamsouza I think I have that brush, or a very similar one. There's a kit i found on ebay a few years ago with 3 brushes guns and a mini compressor, that looks like my favorite from the set. An Iwata knock-off, it's not amazing but it's pretty solid... and for that price it's definitely pretty solid Good for undercoats and it can make a decently small line with practice.

I'm trying to decide if I want to do some more skaven next or switch it up with some kingdoms of men, or rebase my skeletrons.

I've also got some airbrush lube on order as apparently it helps a lot for certain things.

I picked up 4 shirts at hobby lobby today, I may get the nieces another shirt each but I may look around for another small gift to go with their shirts instead, depends on funds and timing. I also got some sheets of... I dunno. I think it's basically cardboard, some form of reasonably dense layered paper product. I got 35 12''x12'' sheets for maybe six dollars, I figured I could try making multibases out of them and maybe do some quotes/silhouettes/other poster-like-things as the nieces and nephew are all still at 'hanging stuff on the walls' age.

Happy hobbying through the winter! Do you have any more Kickstarter hauls coming over the season to keep you busy? I seem to recall Bones II was due soon, but I could be mistaken as I haven't followed it that closely.

Sorry about the lay off, (I will avoid my anti-corporatism rant).

Catching up on hobby stuff is a nice compensation.

Well it's the family business so don't worry about big corporations here Just nothing to do atm.

Para, Yeah I've got bones coming. It should be sometime early next year, I snuck into the first wave of shipping but they've gone and said nothing will be going out before 2015. Dreadball xtreme is liable to show up this winter as well, and I've got a few things coming from mantic by way of deadzone wave 3.

So here you can see the new materials I'm trying for my multibases, I'll let you know if they work. I decided to take the plaster cloth only to the edges instead of trying to wrap it around. If it won't adhere then I'll change my mind... but I figured it would become an issue if it were on the otherwise smooth underside of the trays, pending board surface.

You can also see the finalized pose for my chapter/company champion (whichever he is, I forget) with his thunderhammer at rest on his shoulder (can you even see the bare-arm in the photo?) and his favorite blade set at a somewhat offensive angle. To the left you have a great 40k accessory, the beskulled (it should be a word, think bejeweled but for 40k) forward grip. Sure, with that big of a sword he's unlikely to ever use the grip, but even veteran space marines get the urge to be tacticool sometimes

I may work on the trays a bit more tonight, not sure. If I get any more solid hobby time I'm gonna see about mushashi.
