So....... I'm sure this has been or will be talked to death, but I can't find the discussion. So GW basically told everyone who is interested in a balanced game to go jump off a bridge with their little flier book. I am already sick of Vendetta spam in my local meta and this edition hasn't been out a year. This game is going to have a hard time competing for my time with a game with Heart of the Swarm, where the authors care about game balance. Any other thoughts about this? Don't care? Anyone happy with the 130 point Vendetta?

There are plenty of ways to deal with Vendettas.
You just have to prepare your armylist for them, and cant bring fluffy armies.

I am ! My only problem is that I wanted to field my Hellhound soooooo badly... And with the Vendetta nerf, I would have the chance! But ultimately, the Vendetta technically stayed the same, so my Hellhound is still a sad vehicle.
And hey, be happy that your buddies haven't discovered the awesome combo what is the 3 Vendetta + Baledrake setup yet!

Well I didn't get that message.
Vendettas are not great. If they are hovering they are toast. If they are zooming they open up their rear armour and anything better than a lasgun can start to take pot shots. The price may be a little low and I would think it would increase slightly, say 20 - 25 points when they get round to releasing the new codex.
The way most people kit them out is with lascannons which most non-marine /elite armies can ignore just because of their awful number of shots.
Shooty armies now have access to the ADL with quadguns which suit them as it buffs their units on the battle field generally.
Is Heart of the Swarm an online game?

yup it is sad the amount of effort GW brought to bear to essentially do nothing. They had a perfect opportunity to fix a glaring issue with the games premier new mechanic and they passed it up. Probably wont get fixed until 7th edition now.

I think that Heart of the Swarm is the soon-to-be-released expansion to Starcraft.
As for the Vendetta, 3 twin-linked Lascannon that often don't appear until turn 3 is worth 130 points?
It has other pros, and a few cons, and 130 points looks good, but now brilliant.
How long dooes it last when a Quad Gun lets rip on it?
Everyone has an ADL now, and quads are availablle to all. A 50 point counter to a 130 point unit? Why not?

Heart of the Swarm is the expansion for Starcraft. Electronic games can push out point changes in real time. If a unit is having problems in the tournament scene, Blizzard just patches it. Maybe they have someone on staff that can do math. Or gives a crap. Automatically Appended Next Post: Polecat wrote:There are plenty of ways to deal with Vendettas.

The Quad needs roughly 3 turns to finish off a Vendetta (with BS4). A single Vendetta. One Vendetta can destroy a Quad Gun within 2 turns. See the problem?
The Quad Gun is terri-horrible against Vendettas. And remember: you can have only one Quad Gun, while your enemy will bring 3 Vendettas.

With allies, that's 3 Vends and something else, at less than 2000 points.

Not to mention that you get an entire turn to fire on the Quad gun before you have to bring your fliers on. Killing a T7 model with 2 wounds a 3+ save and (depending on positioning, a 4+ cover save) is pretty easy.

Could someone please explain to me what it is that a Vendetta actually does that is so horrible? It's a HWT that gets to shoot a couple times a game. Big deal.
If it's being used as a transport, then it's either going to crash and burn, or hover and be destroyed.
I'm more concerned about multiple Heldrakes, which are valued appropriately. I think a 40 point difference is okay for the possibility of killing more marines AND hurting a tank in the same turn.

It's AV 12/12/10 and has 3 twin linked skyfire lascannons. And it carries guardsmen. For 130 points. After the Vendettas kill all flyers, they can then go after ground targets. There are almost always good targets for lascannons.

Having problems with vendettas? Play less cheesy players. I run a single vendetta at 2000 points, and have yet to receive a complaint about it. I only run one, because there are only a handful of fliers at my FLGS and not an actual "air force" type army. A vendetta isn't mandatory, but if it strikes your fancy, almost everyone has access to allies (sorry nids), so grab one and fight "cheese" with your own cheese, I suppose.

A single vendetta at 2K is not a problem at all. It's three at 1.5K. And five at 2K. It's only possible because its so cheap.

The solution is of course to spend more money.
Forge World sabre platforms get skyfire and interceptor. They tear apart flyers.
They can be used attached to a platoon, so they can score.
You can attach up to 5 units of 3.
They are artillery, so T7 3+ armor, with crew to absorb high strength shooting.
If you pick up ~6 or so of the sabres, and run them all the time, you might be able to shift the meta in your area.

You know, there exists a cost where Vendettas are a) not usless b) not total BS. It just takes some effort, thought, and playtesting. Automatically Appended Next Post: I guess I wasn't supposed to post the cost. Why are GW like that? It's insane.
