Simple. List a few of your favourite indie games and what's cool about them. For me, most of my indie game choices are roguelikes.
For me:
FTL by Subset Studios: A great space-ship simulator/roguelike that was immensely fun to play and very addictive. Loses a bit of replay value with time, but still gets a run every now and then.
The Binding Of Isaac: Just a crazy, crazy game about a baby trying to escape his fundamentalist Christian mother who's attempting to sacrifice him in the name of God. Something very different (but addictive).
Ancient Domains of Mystery (ADOM): An old text-based fantasy roguelike in the vein of NetHack etc. I've been playing this game for years and still never managed to finish it or see everything it has to offer.
The Doom Roguelike (graphical version): Exactly what it sounds like. Take the game Doom. Put it in a text-based roguelike format and then add graphics... awesome! Some of the best music in a roguelike ever!
Castle Crashers: Older Xbox Live game. Still gets brought out for the 4-way multiplayer when friends come over for a few beers.
So what are your favourites and why?

Ditto on the FTL, Isaac and ADOM.
I played so much ADOM in high school It's not even funny.
I'd add Bastion, Braid and Limbo to that list. All three had excellent feel to them - the visuals + audio.
Probably more but I can't remember now.

Isaac and FLT are wonderful examples of randomly generated game play and I have sunk many hours into them.
I'm also going to bring up recettear. It's the only trading game that didn't feel like math homework.

I wanted to get Frozen Synapse but I missed it when the Steam sale was on. I'll definitely be picking that up soon. Looks really cool. Edit: Oh and another game that I missed - Terraria. Very cool and very large game. A bit like a 2D side scrolling Minecraft.

Every Dakkanaught gets a 4+ Pinch of Salt save.
When you suffer a Falling Sky hit, roll a D6 - on a 4+ the hit is ignored as per the Pinch of Salt save. On a 1-3 panic insues - you automatically fail common sense tests for the next 2 weeks and get +7 to your negativity stat. -Praxiss

I got frozen synapse on release. I really sucked pretty hard at it, so stopped playing. I got a fair few people into it though, so i defo did my bit for mode7. Will probably reinstall it on my new pc, just because i can, drm-free ftw.
Flotilla is pretty cool game, again one i suck at but i can appreciate a good game regardless. It's like FTL but better and more importantly before.
