I think only the TEP's own servitors add to it's shooting tricks, though Mum's do give it the +2 to hit as I recall.

Sigh. I just placed a huge order of Gatormen two days ago and now they restocked the Snappers, Witch Doctors and Croak Hunters. Everything I really need to round out my starting Blindwater army. Damn sale is deadly to my wallet!

I meant Imperil from Directrix's servitors, but I got the rule wrong - I thought it added +D6 damage, but it's just +2. So 5D6+2 damage then. Still sexy, just not as pants exploding

Aye, from everything I have read the TEPs are just sex on a 120mm platter. They fall apart once somethings get to them in melee, but with all the sprays ever they just shred infantry and can reliably drop a heavy in a pinch. Every time I think about fielding a... well whatever Circle has that ISN'T a TEP, I get a little sad.

Here we go, 2 new jacks (I didn't see this artwork earlier)

1) Cygnar jack. My hypothesis (from the shoulder pads and weapon) is that it is the third jack from the kit with the stormclad and reliant coming soon



2) Cryx Jack. It's a heavy. It looks like it has burrow. Good god I hope not.

How long is that limited time sale at MM going to last!?? >.< I've already spent all the money I have on Legion and Khador, now I'm trying not to spend all the money I DONT have on buying Trollbloods and Farrow (to compliment my Blindwater) too >.<

And don't even get me started on Convergence... I mean, just a few warjacks, a couple infantry and solos, I can get a nice little army for 200-300... spending $300 never hurt anyone, right?

Yes - I know what you mean. I love a good sale, but I already bought 30+ minis didn't really need and now I don't appreciate the lingering temptation to pick up more goodies.


And I mean at 40% off - you're basically somehow magically saving money anytime you buy anything. So it's almost foolish to NOT buy more.

The trick with the sale is to put an unreasonable painting goal ahead of yourself.

Mine was to paint my 2nd unit of steelheads, the heavy cav, a mariner, freebooter, 2 merc plastic jacks, a vanguard, driller, Damiano and Rocinante.

The good:
Merc painting progress accelerating!

The bad:
Going to have a painted freebooter and probably end up with more equally cool looking but worthless on the table top models once I fulfill my painting requirement. I'm looking at you steelhead riflemen and Stannis!

Freebooter is hardly worthless, just be sure to pair it with a buccaneer first

I'm more amazed at the belief that Stannis Brocker is worthless.

The whole statement is rather incredulous. Steelheads just move pair up and shoot. I don't see what he thinks is wrong with them

This MM sale is seriously testing my patience.

I haven't played WM in over a year. I have a smattering of Menoth troops that have never seen a paintbrush.

And all I can think about is how Fire of Salvation and a Chior is only $56 shipped or I could get the entire pKreoss tier list for $120.

The key to steelhead riflemen is to refuse a micro flank with just them and start your shooting against models that can counter attack them directly. The end result should be that 4 or 5 enemy models in a unit are dead and the rest of the unit can't reach them on a charge or run.

Works with pretty much every ranged unit in the game and when you can combine ranged shots like they can, it works rather well.

Does this make sense at all? I have no idea if I described it well or not.

They persist because the stuff is dirt cheap and nets them huge profits. Most of the customer base doesn't seem to care that the quality is appalling so companies can continue to get away with it.

You seem to have a pretty weird definition of what appalling quality is.

Now I prefer metal to any type of plastic when it comes to miniatures, but the complains against PP's plastics usually boil down to warpage of the plastic prior to assembly (that can usually be easily fixed with hot water and also sometimes happen in metal models) and the excessive presence of mold lines that only means a longer than usual prep time of the miniature prior to assembly (and again, that also happens to metal miniatures). I wouldn't define any of these issues as appalling quality.

So it's not so much that riflemen and Stannis are without use.

In Damiano's tier they are awesome.

In Highborn riflemen compete with long gunners and gun mages. When I roll with shootier or even combined arms lists, I tend toward Highborn for access to the area denial / incorporial hunting / stealth squashing / one of the best jack marshals in the game- gun mages.

Marshal discipline is great if running a crap ton of steelheads. I might change my tune about Stannis after I start running the cavalry + halberdier package. Right now he is the same points as Ayanna and Holt.

Freebooter. I want to love it. Trash is a cool rule, so is the arcane turbine thing and chain attack grab and smash is also rad. It's why i picked it up.. that and being a really cool model. Pow 14s are just sad. For a little more reliably, I can get a Nomad for 6 points. More reliable damage and reach! On a heavy with Arm 19, not 17. Lash and no knock down is also cool just... well I'm going to need to field it to feel better about it.

TL;DR
Gun mages and nomads are still really awesome.

I love the Freebooter, I really do. It's got some neat rules and it's fast. Hell, I owned a Freebooter way before I owned a Nomad and I bought my Freebooter on release weekend in MkI(shame on me). Ignoring the entire "Nomad is better for the points" thing for a moment, I find the issue to be not so much that it's fragile, but that it requires other models to do what it does best(wreck or cripple then throw away a heavy). At the very least, you'll need a Buccaneer to knock a target down. At that point, I begin to question why I need to invest two models into removing a single piece when a single Mangler for the same cost will do mostly the same, minus the throw, or a cheaper Nomad even(guess we couldn't actually ignore that, huh?).

Trash is a neat rule, but I find it's a hindrance more than it helps. Like Weapon Master, the Freebooter ended up pillow fisted and as a result, you need to invest more points to get it working. I get that this is Warmachine and that combos are part of the whole point, but when it's going up against some of the better, very cost efficient jacks Mercs already have, said combo loses out. A charging Nomad may not get that 4th die against a KD target, but the difference in P&S just about covers it when you take into account average dice rolls.

It's a bit much, but they are medium based models. Given that GW sells it's equivalent sized termies at 5 for $50, 10 for $60 ain't so bad
