Subject: Torn Armor Skirmish/Board Game Kickstarter LIVE!
The nice people at Torn World RPG have put together a little skirmish/board game involving two warring worlds coming together for control of a mystical portal.
From the Kickstarter page...
----------------------------------------------------
Torn Armor is a fantasy skirmish miniature game based on the rich lore of "Torn." It features anthropomorphic creatures such as cat, mouse, monkey, and rhino-headed creatures in their desperate defense of their homeland against the Spartan-like "Sisk" invaders.
Each side is beautifully brought to life through 39 expertly crafted miniatures, ranging from the 20mm "Mu" (mice-men), through to the lumbering war golems that tower a spectacular 60mm on the game board.
Miniatures are pre-assembled and unpainted.
Gameplay Gameplay is intended to be fast and furious. 10 minute set-up time, 30 minute whirlwind action across playing areas the size of a coffee table. While you can certainly set up a table-tennis sized surface if you wish and sprawl out half a dozen Torn Armor battlemats, the core game is intended to be played in a manner conducive to your modern lifestyle: the gameplay is quick, the required playing surface is small, and you'll get plenty of games into just an evening of play.
Game Contents The core boxed set includes:
39 x highly-detailed miniatures
1 x Full color rule book
1 x Full color scenario book
4 x double-sided color battle posters
8 x Magical Item cards
8 x Spell cards
5 dice of 5 different colors (25 dice in total)
At the Ghost & Riftblade pledge level, the two Mercenary faction minotaur brothers are included.
Miniatures are pre-assembled and unpainted.
Why Kickstarter? We have the prototypes, we have the rules, we have the scenarios, equipment cards and magical item cards, we have mountains of concept artwork by some of the industry's finest artists, and we have the miniatures modeled and ready to go into production. What we do not have is the printing and miniature production costs. That's where this Kickstarter comes in.
We can either 3D print all of this and throw it into an old box, or - something that is likely to be more popular with you - we can do this the correct way: top-notch production company, high-quality miniatures, top-notch packaging. Let's face it, who wants less? We don't like inferior quality, we're pretty sure that you won't either, so let's do this the right way: let's use industry savants in the sculpting world, pull in award winning writers and layout artists, and - talking of artists - let's get some of the finest there, too. Then roll all of this over to the same production company that handles Fantasy Flight's DUST.
That - I am sure you will agree - is a recipe that spells results: A great game, awesome sculpts, beautiful materials, all delivered to Industry's leading standards.
To deliver this, we need your funding help.
Add-ons SHIPPING & HANDLING: Please note that there is an additional S&H fee when purchasing add-on miniatures. For every $40 (round UP) in add-ons purchased, add $5.00 (US) or $10.00 (Non-US) to your pledge level.
Art by Jeff Laubenstein
Sculpting by john Robertson and Jason Wiebe
Rules by Jack Cull
Key Pledge Levels $75 for the boxed game - includes all 39 minis and rule book. Enough for both players.
$100 for boxed game and 2 large minotaur brother unit mercenaries
$150 for boxed game and access to all stretch goals of this project included free.
$1200 for all 39 boxed units plus minotaurs painted with signed lithograph of the game art and all stretch goals (stretch goals not painted)
----------------------------------------------
Anyway, check out the gameplay video, it looks pretty fun and $75 to get a full board game isn't bad.

I dunno. While I was very aware that the KS was launching for a few weeks now, seems a bit of a bad timing with a bunch of other mini KS chugging along
Heck we just had Godslayer which had a fantasy greek faction
Will have to see what the strechies are, because $75 EXTRA on top of the base game is a huge jump from base game to sweet spot with no extra information besides gaining the stretch goals. It all depends on whats included
I am interested in the giant elephants. At $45 each (I'm including US shipping) that makes them roughly double those of historical pewter ones that are much smaller, though that'll require 100k passed

@kenshin620: They posted the first stretch goal, at 75k. It's actually quite a bit of additional stuff. One or two more of them, and it would really make that level worth it.

Yea I guess, 17 additional minis and some cards is decent
But unfortunately thats at 75k. Right now there is NO incentive to get to that pledge level until 75k is reached. Even Rivet Wars which people complained initially the stretch goal sweet spot wasnt too good still gave some extra items over the base core box
Is this the same people behind the Torn World KS? If so I think they're running into the same problem as their previous KS that their sweet spot Pledge Level is pretty much banking on hitting stretch goals. I think initially the Torn World KS pretty much gave you nothing until they reached a few thousand dollars (and I believed they over estimated what people would pledge so they actually lowered some of the stretch goals). Same here, you're paying an extra $50 over Ghost and Riftblade pledge level for nothing until $75k is reached (and that is a long ways away)
I'm not saying this doesnt look bad, looks like a decent board game for $75. But Stretchgoal wise I wouldnt put down $150 until we got to at least $40-50k. Especially true seeing that right now the miniature game market on KS is utterly saturated

start small and increase your pledge IF things get added.
that way you'll get more progress duing the slow mid phase of the KS, and more boost potential at the end.
(that's how sedition wars did it, just look at the kicktraq chart, the reached almost a million without a hugh first day surge)
Perhaps, but that too offered a little extra for pledging at the stretch goal sweet spot (resin kara and a patch). It may not be much, similar to the rivet wars example, but it does give a little bit more incentive to pledge at that amount initially.
Again I'm not saying this KS might not be successful

Actually, it's being run by a different bunch, the actual product designers, not an outside company (Center Stage Miniatures). The sweet spot does rely very heavily on the stretch goals. I think pledging for $75 is where I might stay unless this explodes. The price is pretty good, considering everything in the box.

No link to the campaign page, recruittons? Might want to edit that in
(or people can just click here if they're interested)
This looks intriguing but unfortunately has some tough competition right now. I really like the "Maychia Comal" faction (the animals), but the Sisk seems more generic to me.

So here we are, only 19hrs into our first day and it has been a very strong showing indeed; and this is all down to YOU, our first backers. The Torn Armor team is humbled, appreciative and thankful! We have a long march ahead, but it is an exciting journey that lies before us and we have no doubt that we are all - as pioneers - going to be very happy to see this develop.
Tomorrow we will post a draft copy of the rules in 11x8.5" format (obviously for the final boxed set they will be 11x11"). We are very excited to show these to you and see the next month as an opportunity to hear from you directly: your thoughts, questions, and your ideas. What an amazing way to ensure that the very same players of Torn Armor also get to have some input into the rules themselves. You have to love the crowd-funding platform.

This is a sweet board game a friend of mine is producing.... by backing this project you taunt and defy the corporate gaming beasts. Unique setting, quick setup/game play and 39 miniatures.
Plus the first 10 folk to arrange with me through email or private msg:
I will paint your miniatures for 2$ a figure (4$ for the 60mm and larger beasts) plus shipping & handling. Cleaning, Priming, 3 colors, basing and dull coat; it is a Kickstarter Torn Armor Special only.
Firstly, just let me say that the wonderful thing about crowdfunding is the ability to connect with an audience much earlier in the process. You get to see what we are doing way before it is locked in stone, and we get to receive your questions and feedback. I see that as a very valuable part of the process.
So these rules are the end point of our playtesting and closed-group Q&A, *BUT* I do not consider them to be final. I want your feedback, I want your input. If you have questions, it is an opportunity for us to add clarification. If you have a suggestion, send it our way and perhaps we can incorporate it. This is your chance to have a say right at the beginning!
We'll collate all of your comments and will refine the rules as needed after the Kickstarter has ended.
This is a non-illustrated 11x8.5 PDF. The final rules will be 11x11 and rich in example images and artwork. We can't go into that stage yet until we have all of your feedback and tweaks have been made.
The unit card examples attached may not be the final format, appearance or content, but they give you a good sense for the layout and you can use these as a visual guideline as you are reading certain sections in the rules. The final cards will be dry-erasable.

So after looking at the rules, he game seems pretty much exactly like the Commands & Colors system, minus the order cards. Anyone else getting that notion after reading the rules?

Well, this is interesting enough to make my wires tingle. However, two things stop me from jumping into the water and backing the project
1) robots with spear and board. Are they the same size with assault beasts and minotaurs? Because otherwise the idea of scaling the common soldier up beyond the 2:1 loses sense even in the world of mu slingers.
2) mu and their company. Why going with different hind leg designs? Mu - paws, monkeys - feet in sneakers, Calain - again feet in armored boots (latest khajiit fancy), urnugal - again bare paws.
(And with all respect to Jason Wiebe I'd rather prefer Julie Guthrie of the same Reaper fame... Just picking!)
Painting progress tracker:
2017: 50 of 50 planned; 2018: 80 of 60 planned; 2019: 75 of 75 planned
Pledge 2020:
6 to sculpt, 75 to paint (2/57 done)

Some things have been added since last I wrote here.
1. 3 new levels: $35: The rulebook
$50: get all 39 of the box game miniatures, no rules included.
$75: The 39 minis from the box plus the 2 large minotaur brothers miniatures.
2. There is talk of the Reaper Bones clockwork dragon being an early backer reward for the first 500 backers at ~$75 or more! He'll come with a stat card to be used in the game as well!
Details aren't final, but she is definite that the dragon will happen.

Things seem to be moving better now, and she confirmed in the last update the free clockwork dragon from Reaper, which will be fully playable in game, for the first 500 $75+ backers (no matter how you pledge to $75). Hopefully it keeps chugging along well.

Hmm interesting. New update about stretch goals which have actually turned into mini stretch goals
MINI-STRETCH GOALSWe're now very, very close to 20k, so let me tell you what our plans are here. At 20k, 30k, 40k and 50k we will introduce a new unit, new artwork AND new miniatures. They will be available as add-ons AND automatically included in the "all stretch goal" pledge levels. Of course to do this we will not be able to do them in plastic injection and 5,000 at a time, so we'll introduce them as resin and/or pewter pieces. Personally, being able to bring you new units every 10k makes me very excited, I hope you feel the same way.
First up at 20k? These fine fellows from the Fourteen Kingdoms. They will be a MERCENARY unit.
Also the big guys are no longer a huge stretch goal, they are available now. Methinks that a smart move, much like Dream Forge moving their infantry from a stretch to availability

The concept art of the next pre-funding stretch goal (aka part of the stretch goal tier / available as an addon even if only baseline funding is reached) has been shown. It is a pair of heroes from the setting, a female rabbit pirate bartender and her crossbow wielding genius monkey sidekick.
They fight crime...

I'm rooting for this one! I especially like that they actually made a goal of what they will need to make the game ($50K). Seems like it will definitely make it to me, with it at $34K right now.
I love the feel of it (I love anything with anthropomorphic stuff), wish there was a nice collection of images of what all the main models look like, though (the images on the main project page of each model are tiny).

If you are up to lurking in Facebook they have a page there ( https://www.facebook.com/TornWorld ) with rotation videos of most of the renders and large fixed detail images of them (as well as a lot of the concept art) in the photo album "Torn Armor". Hope that helps.
Automatically Appended Next Post: There is now concept art for the the next thing they are adding to the "stretch goal" tier even if only baseline funding is secured. I honestly wish the entire human faction had armor like the leader is sporting (though less ornate obviously): It is a nice balance between history and fantasy...

Yeah I just backed this. Gorgeous looking map, whack of minis, and a free Reaper Clockwork Dragon?! Very nice. Paint up the dragon nicely and sell it - can probably get the game nearly free.

Hey guys, I totally appreciate this thread and the awesome content/feedback that is in here.
For the backers in the thread: THANK YOU! You're part of a great game and the launch of something exciting. I will BURY YOU in miniatures by the time this KS is done, I promise you.
For those wondering about stretch goals - the "every 10k mini-stretches" have added good content in for the $150 level right now with another two minis coming in just 2k more, AND we're adding another 4 miniatures tonight ... it's literally going to be a mass of minis. But, hey, I am all about people owning more mini goodness.
For those wondering about import costs and shipping - WORRY NO MORE. We have had so many awesome backers from my homecountry of England that it makes bulk shipping over there and then shipping to the EU from that location worthwhile. *PLUS* Tor Gaming have kindly offered to be that central point! Go Tor!
We will be removing all shipping costs in the next 24hrs.
