To use a Xenos device as is would be a violation of the Cult Mechanicus' religious strictures. Battlefield neccessity, Rogue Traders, and "Railroading Plot that Requires you to use the Big McGuffin to fight the Ultimate Evil" aside.. the rules seem to be followed well enough by the folks of the imperium.
But in certain sources (and i guess by extension in certain sectors), sanctioned AdMech Magoi (probably from the Explorator segment) do engage in the study of technological devices from other Xenos species.
Has there ever been any in-verse incident where such a study resulted in the incorporation of Xenos technology (once it has been properly "vetted") into AdMech's List of Approved Things?

the thing is there is not all defining admech authority. There is so much that the central priesthood does not know and does not understand. I am sure there are loyalist forgeworlds that are using Xeno technology either knowingly or unknowingly just as they are also using heritec in sometimes the same fashion.
As the chinese say. "天高皇帝远, The mountains are very high and the emperor is far away. "

It's pretty much impossible that they might use xenotech without knowing it, lol - it's pretty easy to tell if something is Imperial or not. :p
As for xeno tools used by Imperials, the Crozius Arcanum counts. They are in fact ancient alien torture devices, although you won't find a reference to that closer than third edition.

how can you tell if it is imperial? Is everything stamped with a "made in the imperium" mark that no one would ever think of faking? Does everything made in the imperium conform to some template or design that can be easily referenced? (well it use to, as it was made from STC, but none of those are functional now)

and no one would ever forge those, nor would it even be possible to put a ribbon on things. Similarly a forgeworld might manufacture something of xenos design and put the seals on themselves.

Thanks for the responses so far.
Re: Digital Weapons - I've always wondered what the AdMech thought of the Jokaero. On the one hand, Xenos (eep!). But on the other hand, not exactly Xenos Horrificus, and they make such lovely toys.
Part of me also wonders at this point, What does "vetting/approving" adapted Alien tech (or even old STC plans) mean in practical terms for the AdMech?
Does someone just write up a bunch of prayers or rituals (or adapt them from items that already exist that are similar in nature) and apply to the new creation?

Honestly they seem to be fine with it as long as it is on the battle front (necessity).
Just flip through the grey knight codex, pretty much every inquisitor has access to xenos tech and some of them are using tech which seems really dangerous.
I think it is a mixture of necessity and trust with IG being completely untrusted to knowingly use xenos tech and the inquisition given great license. Additionally there are weapons and items which in old fluff was taken from xenos but new fluff may have changed.
Xenos tech in use.
*unknown origin, possibly xenos
Grey Knights:
Daemon Blade; digital weapons; needle pistol*; Graviton Beamer; Dagger of Midnight; Runes of Destiny;Jokaero...; c'tan phase sword
-I am sure I missed a bunch of them.
Most of the other groups don't have as much but many of them have a weapon or two on their named characters which is of xenos or suspect origin and has been modified to suit their purposes. Yarrick being one as he took a weapon off an ork warboss.

You know, I kind of thought that the party line when it comes to the Jokaero is that they aren't sentient, so therefore using them to produce technology for you is no different than using any other animal. The Imperium does make use of alien animals and plants, so I think they justify it along those lines. (Granted, the Jokaero devices are controlled technology and not everyone can have them, but still.) That's just the impression I got, I can't back it up with any sources.

Jokaero aren't considered sentients, though - so as xenos go, they are considered to be about as threatening as a grox in terms of galactic domination.

Inquisitors seem to get carte blanche to use what they want but risk getting called out by their peers if they do. Not just alien weaponry, but Chaos weaponry too. There are some examples outside the Inquisition that have been called into question, though:
1) Sammael's jetbike is questioned by some as possibly using alien technology (though I'd suggest it's more likely Dark Age of Technology stuff if not directly linked to the anti-grav motors in Land Speeders instead).
2) the Relictors use/used traitor weaponry on a regular basis, but ended up being excommunicated - if I remember rightly it's still up in the air whether they've actually gone renegade or not.
3) Logan Grimnar still wields a Chaos axe taken from a Champion of Khorne hundreds of years ago, though it was "reforged", I'm not sure the Inquisition would be too happy with that...

That is because the Inquisition's authority is absolute. Other than itself, there is no one with the authority to command them. The Grand Master of the Inquisition is one of the High Lords of Terra, after all.

The Inquisitor with the High Lords isn't usually the Grand Master of The Inquisition if there even is such a thing. So even though his organization is one of the most powerful in the IoM he is ironically the weakest Lord. He functions more like a reporter that feeds news back to his Inquisition masters.

IIRC Lukas's pistol has a DE gunsight,
There were hints in the Oldcron dex that most of the Admech knowledge was based on Necron tech.
There was a Titan princeps that was executed for saying 'you ask me what i need? Give me the Pulse Lasers of the Eldar to mount upon my titans!' or something to that effect.

iirc i think there was a statement in a book that said something along the lines of that there were a group of AdMech Trying to bring the machine spirits of tau weapons over to the imperial side by "giving them the proper respect" but they never were able to think of rituals to do so so the action never occured.

You and I recall the same statement.
Kind of why I started the thread really.
That the Inquisition takes liberties with "the rules" is a given.
Its much more interesting to see how the AdMech intake a bunch of foreign/alien devices, evaluate them, and try to figure out ways to incorporate them into their understanding of how technology should properly work.
