So currently I've noticed that the two top tier flyers in the Game are the Hell Drake and Vendetta/ Valkyrie

Basic idea behind the polls here is to find who's the most tactically flexible , and brings the best fire power for its cost

Variants -
Hell Drake with Bale Flamer
Hell Drake with Hades auto cannons

Vendetta
Valkyrie with Multiples rocket pods ( same cost as Vendetta )

So my fellow dakkaers Who is the top dog ?

I think all flyers are fragile and expensive. (Both in points and real world costs.) I've yet to see them perform up to the standard of their internet hype. I can only assume that somewhere they're played in the abundance that the forums seem to indicate, and with a decent record backing them up. I've yet to see any indication of it, though. Never faced a Helldrake on the tabletop, but every Vendetta that's been fielded against me has gone down within one turn of arriving at the hands of a twin-linked melta snapshot.

As a general rule, on Dakka you find a lot of contrarians who want to be able to be weird, conflicting, or to point out the one thing they think you missed. As such, I find it helps me to put at least one don't know/don't care/neutral option in all of my polls.

The Doom Scythe is actually pretty terrible, imo. 175 points for something that gets to shoot once if it's lucky. No, thanks.

Heldrakes, all the way. Vendettas are only good because they're cheap and decent at killing their 1-2 targets (vehicles and monstrous creatures).

Heldrakes are much more survivable. They have a much better range of targets - good at taking out light vehicles/flyers, marines of all types. They can attack in 360 degrees. They can even take out multiple targets in a turn...vector strike a Chimera and then flame the inside. All of its attacks ignore cover - defense lines, invisibility, disruption pods?

Doom/Night Scythes can attack in 360 degrees as well. The twin-linked Tesla Destructor is turret-mounted.

Codex: Necrons, page 51, paragraph 1: "With its turret mounted tesla destructor, and the nerve-shredding shriek of its engines, the Night Scythe is still a formidable fighter craft in its own right."

You can't use fluff for rules.

The problem with this logic, is that neither does the Heldrake. Also, what happens if I glue down my LRBT's turret due to an accidental breakage? Are you going to stop me because the model can't do it.

I don't have intimate knowledge of the Necron codex, but there seems to be nothing to say it is a turret (unlike the Heldrake), and the model can't move the weapon (unlike a pristine version of a LRBT), so I'd say it's not a turret...

Might want to open a YMDC thread though.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

The Vendetta is the best.
It competes for a non important IG force org slot
cant be taken 1-3 per slot
can transprot troops(IG are cheap)
Is very effective against other flyers, armor, MCs.
Is still AV12

A vendetta with 2 heavy bolters, 3 twin linked las cannons, and a PCS or special weapon squad inside costs the same as a helturkey and is effective against hordes, tanks, MCs, can score, and uses up a low value force org slot.

So you admit to not seeing them used and claim that as an indication of their ineffectiveness?

That makes sense.

Heldrakes all the way I don't play chaos but I've played my brother enough to breath a sigh of relief when he fails his reserve roll!

The bale Flamer and the strength 7 vector strike with D3+1 hits is just straight up ridiculous! Then if you can make daemon and it will not die saves then your in the money! Stuff very quickly gets out of range, baring in mind that's still 20 inches away!!

It's the Vendetta, and the Heldrake is a distant second. The Vendetta costs 40 points less, is armed with 3x TL Lascannons, has the same AV facings and can transport models. Not to mention, a guard player can field 9 (!!) of them in one FoC and regardless of how many a player takes, they work well with just about any IG army (3x Heldrakes meanwhile, don't). If the poll was "Which Flyer is better at killing MEQ?", the answer would be the Heldrake.

Well I. Appreciate the responses , but keep in mind a Valk with twin rocket pods was also in competition against the bale Flamer , But generally my vote would be to the Vendetta - Cheap , well armed , troop capacity , can hover , and well armored , the Valkyrie with rocket pods is exactly the same price and is extremely effective against hordes - so my vote is to the Vendetta ... But I wonder ... Chaos allies with a hell drake ...

One of the best parts about 6th edition is that it has made me want to actually field a Valkyrie over x3 Vendettas (I usually get both since I run the IA8 Elysians most of the time) thanks to everyone running Aegis Defense Lines. Nothing I love more then seeing a blob of squishy guys hiding behind a wall when I have rocket pods
