While prepping for a GT next month I saw that one of the rules is that each player selects a Warlord Trait and will use that trait for every game in the tourney. As a DA player my initial reaction was mixed, I've got 3-4 great choices from the DA 'dex, but I'm losing one of Azzie's tricks. Then it hit me, Master of Ambush from the BRB let's you decide if the game will begin as Night Fight. This got me thinking about a list designed to use Night Fight turn one. Here's my question to you Dakka, is there a better Warlord Trait to use as a key component of your army list?

Personally If I was going to choose one Warloard Trait and I had to keep it for 6+ games, I would go for the one that subtracts 1 from your opponent's reserve rolls. having an enemy come in more piecemail is almost always a benefit (it could also be dramatic against flier heavy lists).

If you are going to ally in Guard, take the -1 to enemy reserve rolls. This then combines with the Officer of the Fleet and forces your opponents reserves to come in on a 5+.

This then slows the arrival of your enemies fliers to a trickle, helping you get better board control, and helping to prevent your quad gun from getting target saturated. Remember even if they have a Coms Relay, they only get a 55% chance to get their reserves in.

Then you figure that your fliers are coming in on a 2+, thanks to the Astropath, and you are laughing.

Xom finds this thread hilarious!

Choosing a warlord trait is reaaaaallly good for some armies. Yes, I will take the Scoring Warlord trait for Celestine, thank you.

Yeah I'd agree that the reserve ones can generally help you the most (either -1 to theirs or the one that lets you re-roll yours). Depending on your terrain though, the stealth ruins one could be good. 3+ cover to everyone in a ruin helps with survivability.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

Yah I was gonna say that seems pretty over the top for a GT. I'd probably take night fighting or scoring warlord for my army. But it really depends, the -1 to reserves is awesome and so is the stealth/MTC ruins.

There are a couple of super good combos there. Foot Guard loves the 'everyone uses my ld' one.

as a DE player whenever I get the chance I go for that one. The guarenteed first turn and perhaps second turn alpha strike is too good to pass up.

CSM would probably go for PE SM. At a tourney you are sure to see some newcrons and guard but PE most of the field is pretty good.

I like doing Strategic Traits ... mainly b/c Stealth Runes and Move Through Cover on all of my units is amazing on guard/sob.

Re-rolling hits when an enemy is within 3" of an objective would be great as well. With most of the missions basing around objectives, this can swing the game pretty well, especially if you have a low BS army.

scoring castellan crowe would actually make purifier lists worthwhile.

My chaos lists using a biker lord leading spawn love the "warlord and his unit have FNP when within 3" of an objective".

It's going to depend on your list, really.

That does seem a little unfair to Dark Angels players. (And can't one of the Chaos Space Marines pick his own warlord trait, too?)

In any event, I think the scoring warlord, the one that gives you a victory point for killing enemy characters, or the one that gives you FNP within 3" of an objective are all good choices.

Either scoring warlord or -1 reserves. Oh what is that, your reserves are on a 5+? That is too bad,

Scoring Warlord is so hard to pass up. How many missions are based on objectives at the GT? I know that 5/6ths are in the main rule book but it may be different there.
If you are running around 5/6ths of the games where they count objectives to win, there's your choice.

no, there are 5 special characters that have default warlord choices. 3 of them are good. (Huron, Arhiman, and Abby) and 2 are awful(Typhus and Kharn)

no one can pick though.

really depends on your list.

As DE i would like to have my 2++ archon score, but in competitive play I dont even take an archon and having a 2 wound hami score is silly. Night fighting on the other hand is stupidly good for a race that completely ignores the downside.
