Weird... my Stug III G was one piece, plus two tracks and schurzen, and a metal 7.5cm gun. All perfect fit, except some flash on the gun, just needed to file it.

The Tamiya kits look and scale great. You do have to be a little gentle with them but it not too bad. They look correct next to the infantry, as many game company ones just too small to the point of sillyness in my eyes.

On that note, avoid the Italeri 1:48 stuff, it's horrible. I got one of their not-Opel Blitz trucks, didn't go together well and over time all the rubber tires snapped for some gakky reason.

These are way more in line with other miniature lines out there, like Hasslefree, Andrew Rae's stuff and Crooked Dice, these marines in particular can easily be pressed into service with other games no problem at all.

NEW: AFRIKA KORPS KRADSCHUTZEN

Key to the campaign waged in the Western Desert was mobility in order to cross the vast sandy deserts. As a result both sides relied heavily on tanks and transports. Amongst these were the BMW 75 and Zundapp motorcycles utilised by the Deutsche Afrika Korps and adding extra speed and manoeuvrability to your Afrika Korps force are these two new models.

ASSEMBLED: PLASTIC US MARINES

As soon as Paul headed out of the Warlord studio for his morning Bacon cob we snaffled several of the test shots of the new US Marines plastic sprues – we were desperate to try out the options in this new plastic set.

We had a great time trying out the combinations and, as you can see, you have a great-looking, varied force to take on your Japanese enemy!

You can get your hands on these lovely new plastics by placing a pre-order for the following new boxed sets.

The US Marines boxed set contains parts to make 30 multi-pose miniatures. There are stacks of options for posing and for equipping your brave American Marines.

The Semper Fidelis 1,000pt statter army contains loads of plastic Marines as well as extra support in the form of a plastic M3A1 halftrack and metal figures such as the forthcoming 37mm anti-tank gun – all at a great price!

http://www.warlordgames.com/41635/preview-collecting-armies-for-the-pacific-theatre/

The Pacific war was a desperate and bloody part of the global conflict of WWII. From Guadalcanal through to Okinawa and the attack on the Japanese mainland, many different forces fought on both sides. In Bolt Action you are able to create a force based around one of the many theatre lists provided in the supplements, or if you wish to make one yourself or do your own research, the full list allows you to pick and choose your force as you see fit.

Here at Warlord HQ, four willing volunteers (no political officers needed this time) have begun collecting armies for the Pacific theatre and we have decided to show you how and why they did it. Over the next few weeks and months we will show you how we started the process through to playing games with 500 and 1000 point armies.

Bill “The Prop” Bentley is collecting a classic USMC infantry force with lots of infantry, but beware the scary Satan tank lurking in the backing!

Andrew “Cheesey” Ches is going for an Island Defence force. A structure that was used extensively throughout the war, where a few thousand men were left on an Island and told to hold it to the death!

Richard “The Face” Dando has spent many, many hours on his US landing craft so expect that to be his main focus.

Daz “Jonesy” Evans has gone for a Japanese Mechanised platoon (on bikes with a twist!) with Naval Landing forces as a reserve.

Be sure to tune in next week for the first instalment where we show off our compulsory choices when starting any reinforced platoon – the HQ and Infantry Squads.

http://www.warlordgames.com/41609/new-semper-fi-us-marines-starter-army/

Send your US Marines force into action with the Semper Fi Starter Army, now available to buy in store.

The set contains parts to make three full 12 man squads, a lieutenant and medic, support from a bazooka, flamethrower, two MMG teams and the brand new Medium Mortar team, plus a 37mm Anti-Tank Gun to deal with enemy armour and a M3A Halftrack to provide transport.

The perfect way to launch your campaign to retake the Pacific.

Semper Fi!

http://www.warlordgames.com/41345/work-in-progress-panzers/

Those of you frequenting the Warlord Games Facebook page will have seen loads of previews of sculpts for upcoming releases. For those of you not signed up (lightweights!) you can see a couple of them below…

Panzer III Ausf M (and L!)
A hefty conversion of our Pz III Ausf. J the M adds up-armoured gun mantlet, extra armour on driver’s plate as well as schurzen around turret and along the hull sides.

We’ll also be releasing the Ausf. L which is the same vehicle without the schurzen…

Panzer IV Ausf G
Over 1600 of the Ausf G variant of the ubiquitous Pz IV were produced during the war between May 1942 and June 1943, making it a key component of the war in the Western Desert and the Russian Front.

This model also works perfectly as a late version of the famous Pz IV F2 (or Panzer IV ‘Special’ as the British troops referred to them in North Africa).

NEW: BARON TAKEICHI NISHI

Released today is the noble figure of Baron Takeichi Nishi, tank commander in the Imperial Japanese army.

Nishi was a Gold medallist in show jumping at the 1932 Olympics, as well as being an officer in the Imperial Japanese army who commanded the 26th Tank Regiment in the battle for Iwo Jima. You may recall him making an appearance in the 2006 film, Letters from Iwo Jima.

The model comes with a second head, so if you don’t want him to represent Nishi himself, you can use him as a striking but more generic Japanese Officer, as shown here:

What better way to honour this remarkable man (and horse!) than have him at the head of your Imperial Japanese army?

NEW: USMC SUPPORT TEAMS

The US Marines receive some welcome support this week in the form of three new sets, providing machine gun, mortar and anti-tank capabilities. Just the thing for retaking those Pacific islands for the Japanese!

First up is the M1917 MMG team, ready to mow down those Japanese Banzai charges!:

First seeing action during World War I, this medium machine gun saw action throughout WWII and into the Korean and Vietnam wars. It was also provided to the British Home Guard units after the majority of British heavy weapons were abandoned on the beaches at Dunkirk…

Next, to bombard the enemy positions, the 81mm Mortar team:

As in most theatres the mortar was a much-utilised and terrifying weapon. In the close confines of the Pacific theatre it became even more useful as the undergrowth, terrain and other obstacles often made direct firing weapons less potent.

The primary anti-tank gun of the US military in the early stages of World War II, the M3A1 first saw action during the defence of the Philippines in 1941. Despite being superceded by heavy guns in the European and Mediterranean theatres, the 37mm M3A1 would see the war out in the Pacific as Japanese armour development wasn’t as advanced as that of their German allies.

The Bolt Action vehicle range are 1/50th as opposed to 1/48th right? I was giving one of those M3A1s a look over in my flgs and it looked a bit bitty to me. Perhaps playing warhammer's skewed my perception of how large vehicles aught to be, but I find 1/48th to be a more appropriate scale for my APCs and Tanks. Then again Warlord seems to be the only one producing some of the more obscure (and not so obscure) vehicles out there, so I guess its better to knock a few inches off than have nothing at all (or try and shoe horn some 1/35- 1/72 kits in instead).

Newsletter time peeps!

German players, do you have a tiny penis? Or is that Russian player always laughing at your panzers and their rather ineffective penetrating power? If so, here's something to help feel good about things again!

NEW: SD.KFZ 184 FERDINAND HEAVY TANK DESTROYER

THis week the forces of the Third Reich can add a real monster of a tank to their arsenal as we release the colossal Ferdinand heavy tank destroyer!

The Ferdinand was optimised for destroying Soviet T-34 tanks and 76.2mm anti-tank guns from a range of over 3 miles, with its 88mm Pak43/2 L/71 main gun.

Ferdinands first saw combat in the Battle of Kursk, where eighty-nine were committed and claimed to have knocked out over 300 enemy tanks, for the loss of just 13. They were, however, dogged by mechanical failures in these early stages of it’s combat life.

A pre-cursor to the Elefant, the Ferdinand lacked it’s successor’s defensive machine gun which made it vulnerable to infantry assaults. You can find the rules for fielding this beast in games of Bolt Action in our Additional Units PDF here.

And for all the jarheads, patriots and other amphibians out there, the Marines are out now!

NEW: PLASTIC US MARINES

Storm the beaches and reclaim the Pacific with our multi-pose plastic US Marines, now available to to buy in our webstore.

Guadalcanal. Tarawa. Iwo Jima. Okinawa. Just some of the legendary actions the US Marine Corps fought in – actions that have rightfully sent the USMC into legend.

There are few fighting forces that can rival the fearsome reputation of the United States Marine Corps. Indeed they can trace their ancestry back to the Revolutionary War in the 18th Century, serving all over the globe up to the present day.

During the Second World War the US Marines spearheaded the American response to Japanese aggression, leading to a ferocious island-hopping campaign. The technologically superior US forces made many amphibious assaults that wore down the Japanese and culminated in crushing American victories albeit with terrible loss of life on both sides.

US Marines in the Pacific Theatre of Operations were eager to get the job done be it with the bayonet, shotgun or their Thompson submachine guns. Their loyalty to their comrades and the Corps stood them in good stead as they faced a fanatical foe where no quarter was given no received.

Semper Fi!

I think one of these is a girl!!!

NEW: SOVIET TANKERS

Add character and individuality to your Soviet armour with this set of crewmen, designed to be placed in the tank hatches of your models. The various models are sculpted surveying the battlefield through binoculars, map-reading and giving directions to gunner and driver.

Unlike Forge World, you don't to buy expensive books to play with new toys!

RULES: BOLT ACTION ADDITIONAL UNITS & FAQ

The Bolt Action Additional Units PDF contains rules for numerous models that we’ve released since the relevant Armies book was published, allowing you to field them in your Bolt Action battles.

Bolt Action writer Alessio Cavatore has included are rules for the mighty Ferdinand tank-destroyer, as well as German Pioniers.

Also this week, Alessio has updated the Bolt Action Errata and FAQ document with all the latest tweaks and corrections. Don’t forget that the new changes are highlighted in green.

SPEED PAINTING: US MARINE CORPS INFANTRYMAN

And saving the best for last:

COMING SOON: DAD’S ARMY

As we announced last year, we’ve been granted the official licence for the cult TV series, Dad’s Army. As we near the release date we thought it would be fun to give you the choice of which character we would preview first!

Sculpted by Paul Hicks, each character has been designed in both their Home Guard and civilian attire (obviously apart from the Reverend and Verger). Don’t panic – we’ll be showing them all off over the coming weeks…Warlord’s fantastic Dad’s Army boxed set, based on the well-loved television series, will be out very soon.

All together now!

Heh, according to the faq Japanese observers used to have access to assault rifles.

I wonder who actually took that back when the rules allowed it?

Also, really kicking myself for not buying the Pioneers box when Warstore had them on sale for cyber monday. Their new rules are pretty cool. Lots of AT, plus all the abilities of the early war pioneers, except they also get access to panzerfausts and the special weapons that came in the box, like the sturmpistole and the GrB-39 grenade launcher

If you really hated tanks, you could 4 Panzerfausts, a sturmpistole, a GrB-39 grenade launcher, a flamethrower, AND anti tank grenades, all in one squad.

You know, for when that M5A1 Stuart just absolutely, positively has to die.

A full 10 man squad with all the fixings of 7 SMG's, Flamethrower, and all that delicious anti tank goodness costs 236pts. That's 1 pt more than a Regular rated Panzer IV H.

That pioneer unit is veteran, has higher LD and is harder to kill/hit in most situations, can put out WAY more anti infantry power, way more AT punch, and could absolutely murder anything you wanted in assault.

I actually think I would take that. Probably trim it down a bit, but a squad of those guys would make a nasty addition to a Grenadier list. Probably don't need 4 panzerfausts, a Sturmpistole, AT grenades, AND a grenade launcher, but that's a lot of potential firepower for a single unit. It would be able to take almost anything you could throw at it if played correctly.

Dad's Army has been something Warlord has been itching to do for quite some time now, only unlike other companies that have already released themed miniatures based on the show, Warlord is decent enough to take the time and effort to produce these through proper channels.

Here's hoping they won't be painted by that one guy though, I'd hate to see them all with beards and unshaven faces..
