The poll needs to be multiselect, and it's missing Exodites and the Imperial-but-not-legally-so factions: Space Marines and the Adeptus Mechanicus (all of which are technically allied states, not part of the Imperium proper).

My vote goes to everything but the CWE, DE, and the Imperium/AdMech.

I voted the Dark Eldar but in hindsight, I probably should have voted the Eldar. Either way these are the 2 least likely

Orks. Even in the unlikely event they unite and wipe out every other race they would still just fight amongst themselves.

Ruling anything wouldn't even come into it.

Which is why I voted Orks.

Tau; they lack sufficient FTL capacity to ever rule more than a small section of the galaxy. They're currently incredibly tiny, a pinprick of light on the map, and could, at most, upgrade their territory from a pinprick to a speck.

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

Eldar isn't "winning" by at least a 50% margin.

Even if they "win" and eat everything in the galaxy, there's still nothing left to rule over afterwards.

DE. Too small and irrelevant to ever win, unless you define "winning" as staying alive in their small territory where nobody can reach them.

And the Tau are the most likely to win, not the least. The Imperium will be too busy with other threats to deal with them properly, so they will survive and continue developing better technology until they reach a point where a single gun drone conquers the Imperium out of sheer boredom (the actual Tau having found better things to do).

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Eldar aren't really dying out. They're still significantly larger and more powerful than the Tau. That includes the DE, as well.

Peregrine wrote:DE. Too small and irrelevant to ever win, unless you define "winning" as staying alive in their small territory where nobody can reach them.

Commorragh is a massive enough construct to house multiple stars. It could have a population density a hundredth of Alaska's and it would still house more Eldar than there are Guardsmen.

And the Tau are the most likely to win, not the least. Judging from the Eldar and Necrons, there's clearly a plateau point where the efficacy of technology just tapers off. The Imperium reached it before the Heresy, and is nearly at it still, while the Tau are rapidly approaching it (note their pronounced lack of improvement between the arrival of Behemoth and the latest point). The Tau, at the best the setting allow technology to be, could be wiped out by a single Craftworld, or a particularly large Kabal. To say nothing of a crusade on the level of the Sabbat Worlds' Crusade.

From the list, I voted Tyranids. Why? Because the 5th edition book shows that GW doesn't give 2 gaks about them, so they'll never win in the storyline. All other reasoning is pointless because it disagrees with me.

tau by a landslide. They're the only race that doesn't have access to serious interstellar travel. There's no way they're ruling anything cohesively. Orks at least have enough pure numbers, and they CAN go through the warp.

Meanwhile, honesly, I see eldar as doing pretty well for WINNING, not losing. To me, the eldar are like the Amish. They're this strange, old society that everybody forgets about, but when everything crashes around our heads, they're the only people with the skills and technology to survive. They've been self-sufficient for so long, that it wouldn't make much difference to them if civilization ceased to exist.

Take that, and then add in the ability to transport quickly anywhere and ludicrously better technology than anybody else, and they're in the upper eschelon for who I see winning, right up there with orks and demons.

In the grim dark future, mere survival IS winning.

Their numbers are to few, they have no real FTL, their military might is big but already beginning to be overstretched, and they are literally surrounded by Imeprium of Man.
Tau will only become masters of the galaxy when everybody else is dead and forgotten.

And who voted for the Imperium? LOL....

Tyranids.

- They can't beat a single Space Marines chapter
- They can't make planetfall with but a single Eldar defending the globe
- They've been outwitted by Orks
- They've been starved to Death by Vostroyans
- They've been trampled to death by the Guard
- They've been out-adapted by the Tau
- They've been defeated by a single wily Inquisitor

They are clearly the bottom-feeders of the 40K universe. Gotta wonder why GW still bothers.

Because even if they win the fight, the daemons take over anyway.

Eldar/Dark Eldar are less likely to win the fight, but if they did, they'd remain the dominant force once they had done so.

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

So is it "win" or "rule"?

Look at Orks. They could conceivably win, but they will never have the patience (or inclination) to rule in any organized manner.

More importantly, how do you decide between multiple factions (if not all of them) that all have a 0% chance of doing one, or the other, or either.

Whose 0% is the "lower" one?
